After a long ride from Yangon, a rather interesting ride in a crowded truck, and a short (if energetic) walk from the loading station, one is warmly welcomed by at the checkin desk, given a refreshing bottle of cool water and ushered to your room.

Rooms are basic, but adequate and most importantly clean and the beds are comfortable. The water is hot and there is a TV and aircon, although it wasn’t necessary on this trip as it was quite cool already.

The grounds are beautiful, full of scented flowers and pathways leading you down to the main building which has an area for wifi, although sitting on the balcony and chatting is a preferred event.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, although the eagle eyes watching your every move over meals is a bit distracting, but plates are cleared immediately and you are attended to quickly, politely and eagerly!

If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of a town centre, then this might not be the place for you, but if you want clean air and peace and quiet (the trucks stop in the evening), the this is the place to be, a halfway house between Kingpun and the Golden Rock itself.

I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend at least one night as a break from the daily stress of getting around.

One point to note, if you have a lot of baggage, or struggle walking uphill, then take the trucks to the top and change to one coming down which will drop you at the hotel. (The one-way system prevents them dropping you on the way up!

You would be better off at the hotel at the top (Mountain Top?). Golden Rock is drab, bad food, mediocre service. Only thing going for it is the location.

We stayed here for one night on our way back from visiting the Golden Rock. Our twin bedded room was basic but clean and comfortable. Great shower but no hot water tap in the wash basin.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Our group of 6 people ate an evening meal in the hotel restaurant but one of the group became unwell. (she ate the same meal as me and I was ok). Breakfast was simple but adequate (no buffet ) but fruit, eggs and toast, coffee and juice. Our room had a great view and the hotel gardens were beautiful. I would happily stay here again.

As a 50-something solo female traveler, I did not feel safe here. I had to prop a chair against knob to sleep. The lock was just a push button with no safety catch of any kind. No safe but sign in room saying Not Responsible for items stolen from room. This is the only hotel in 17 days in Myanmar where I used my sleep liner. I do not recommend this hotel. If you’re going to spend the money to stay up top, I recommend the Mountain Top Hotel. I stopped in for a glass of wine and it’s a nice hotel. Mine was not, but they did have a great breakfast spread.

This is the only hotel we have ever stayed in where we had to choose our evening meal from the limit restaurant menu on arrival! Hotel's staff friendly, but had very limited English. Hotel food poor - I ended up with food poisoning, but very limited choice food options in this area. Hotel room basic, but adequate for one night. Great location for visiting the Golden Rock.

This feedback is for the Mountain Top/View Hotel. We (my wife, my friend and his wife who are from Myanmar) stayed at this hotel for one night. The travel company booked this "Superior" room for each couple. We took a truck ride up to the top. About 45 minutes long. We then had porters carry our suitcases to the hotel.
The view was fantastic. You see the Golden Rock pagoda from a distance about 3/4 mile away. You see a large valley looking down and across the valley towards a mountain range. Sunset was beautiful. It was quite peaceful except for a gangs of dogs fighting and yelping loudly across from the hotel. It's OK if you like dogs. Kind of noisy every now and then.
Now the rooms.. Very tiny. No phone, no TV. Hot and cold water available. Adequate for one or two nights. Being closest to Pagoda made it very pricey. We paid $90.00 per night for each room. It did get cold up there. We were there in January 2013. It could be cold year round because of elevation.
Food. Restaurant serves breakfast and it was OK. Dinner was fine too. Nothing outstanding. Good food especially if you are hungry. Not bad for the experience. It you want to save money, stay at the base. Besides you can see everything in one visit unless you are there to worship and meditate. Hotel and restaurant staff were attentive and helpful.

I have just stayed at Golden Rock hotel. After staying in International resorts in Bagan and Lake Inle I appreciated the contrast. The simplicity of this accommodation suits its location. I felt I had travelled back in time whilst sitting on the large veranda enjoying a drink and watching an amazing sunset.
I had room 403 with stunning views, a large, comfortable clean room with teak furniture it certainly felt more authentic to its location. The meals were most enjoyable with excellent vegetarian options.

This basic, clean hotel is about a 15 minute downhill hike from the Golden Rock. If you took the truck up you'll be happy for a walk! But if you lingered up there for sunset be sure to have a flashlight handy as the road is dark and steep. Only motorcycles are allowed on that road so hire a local to help you with your bags if needed. The rooms are spartan but spacious with lots of steps to navigate in between. The food is mediocre. WiFi available in lobby and dining areas only. Expect to wake up early to beautiful mountain vistas and morning prayers broadcast across the hills by loudspeakers.

The hotel is located just on the top of the mountain, a few steps from the Golden rock area.It is simple but rooms are rather clean with air conditioning and TV.Buffet restaurant with good food for all tastes, both asians and europeans. Not expensive but it is better to book it in advance , the place is quite popular and it is not easy to find a room.
