Detailed Reviews
Just after the porters quickly grabbed our bags, handed us a cool cloth, gave us a refreshing glass of coconut water, I stood up and walked through the lobby to look at the hotel’s beach.
When I saw the shining Bay of Bengal, the pristine swimming pool and the palm trees at the waters’s edge, I swear — after a few moments — I felt like I’d lost 10 lbs. of stress, worries and travel weariness.
The Merciel Resort is a couple of miles past the bigger towns and more crowded tourist areas but for us, that was perfect. We needed quiet.
I definitely recommend upgrading to a beachfront bungalow. The room was awesome. It had a porch where each evening we sat, waiting for the gorgeous sunsets. First thing, every morning, we opened the curtains to a beautiful beach view. The food was great. We ate all our meals there. When we wanted to check out more of the island, the staff would call us a tuk-tuk, and we could go anywhere we wanted. One driver even added a short trip to a local fishing village, so we could see how the residents lived and worked.
The staff did nothing but smile and give us great service.
(Footnote: this is NOT a place for late night partiers. And, while we were there a bit of construction was going on to fix some of the bungalows that were damaged by storm surf.) This Ngapali Beach resort revived us...like a real vacation should. 🌴😎

We were lucky enough to spend four nights at this magical hotel shared between the Sea View and Bungalow rooms. The rooms are good value for money, particularly the bungalows.
The hotel is set at a quiet end of Ngapali Beach away from most of the action, which means there is plenty of space on the beach and room to feel remote.
The pool, bar and restaurant provide excellent service and the sunsets are incredible. The restaurant catered for all our vegetarian requests and the food is delicious. One of the best meals we had in Ngapali. The cocktail waiter will make cocktails not on the menu so be sure to ask what else he can whip up!
The staff were wonderful and made sure all of our needs were looked after. They arranged us medical help after a soft sand incident on an e-bike. It felt like there was a small team looking after us throughout our stay.
Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here for 12 nights and during that time the staff were so helpful and friendly, they were attentive but not overpowering. The rooms are large and very clean (although bathrooms are in need of some renovations), with amazing views of the beach and sunset. Their restaurant serves very good food at very good price. Although only 3 minutes from airport, plane noise was never a problem in fact I can honestly say you just can’t hear them. Definitely on my list for next year, thanks to everyone.

The Merciel team is surely one of the friendlies and kindest teams we have met on our trip at Ngapali beach. They take care of every wish of their guests and try to make you feel you are in paradise. The place is decorated with love, very colourful and with a large swimming pool. The kitchen offers many different dishes and beverages. It is a peaceful area, so one can surely relax. Thank you dear Merciel team for making our stay so lovely. ☺️

I was very happy on arrival to see my big spacious room and wonderful balcony overlooking the ocean and sunset. The beach here is rocky but there is sand for kids to play in. There is a beautiful pool for swimming. The more sandy beaches are about 3km away but it's quite noisy down there with trucks motorbikes and buses making terrible noise. So I went to the sandy beaches in the daytime and was happy to come back here to peace and quiet. I had the most amazing sleep every night here, not a sound to be heard. The food was always amazing, any fish dish and the chicken satay was awesome. Breakfast too filled me up so much I often had lunch at 6pm. There was also a spa which was excellent and I was kindly given a complimentary massage. The staff were amazing, couldn't do enough to help and were super attentive. I left with my batteries charged 100%, truly amazing!

This is an excellent hotel. The territory is very beautiful and well-groomed.The staff and service are beyond praise. They are perfect. The cook excellently. The chef cooks superbly. Moreover, they decorated my room and restaurant on my birthday and help me to organize my birthday party. As a present they cooked a cake for me.It was so unexpected and nice.
So,everything about this hotel is great-territory,rooms,staff,service,food.
There is a beach next to the hotel.
I definitely recommend this hotel.

We arrived with great hopes to have a rest after a really active tour in Myanmar. But after one night we decided to move out due the construction area next to the hotel and there was also a temporarily built-up living area for the workers at the construction site. We were also not 'satisfied' with the beach: there were many rocks in the water, quite impossible to swim and the beach itself was also 'unkept'. The pool was dirty like hell, however the rooms and the hotel garden were ok. I attached some pics, decide your own :) Perhaps we arrived the worst time as there are nice reviews too.

Dear CSzilvi, Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your feedback. I am deeply sorry that we fail to meet your expectations. We have no excuses but a few explanations that we hope you will hear us. First of all, the “construction” area you referred to in the review is actually a “covered area” (phase II)” for further development of more hotel rooms in the future, and the laundry building which I think you had the impression that it was a “temporary living area” for our staffs. You saw our staffs around that building because they were working during the day to take care of our guests’ laundry. I agree that we should have separated the area better. Being housed on a slightly rocky part of Ngapali’s shoreline, we face challenges from time to time when it comes to “sandy beach” with crystal clear water; however, we are somewhat blessed by Mother Nature as we still have a small beach area at the side of the hotel. I am sad to hear that you were not happy with that part of our beach. As well as our swimming pool which was “green” for almost a week due to entering of sea water into the chlorinated pool as a result of high tide at night that caused rapid algae growth. Nonetheless, I can totally understand how you would feel and expect as a guest. Sad to learn that providing a complimentary transfer to the next hotel was all we could do to make it up to you that time. Even though a refund was properly arranged after the case was filed with our third party OTA, I still would like to personally apologize to you for the less than perfect stay. We are now closed for the rainy season and it is my top priority to take this opportunity to do a thorough renovation as well as other projects that are in the pipeline for further improvements. All your comments were noted and I do hope the experience will not deter you from visiting us again in the future. Thank you.

This hotel is great and I would highly recommend it.
The rooms are lovely and spacious. Staff is super friendly and go out of their way to help guests.
Breakfast was one of the best during our 2 week stay in Myanmar. One the first day, we got a menu and had to choose between the American/English, the Continental or the Asian breakfast. On the second day we had a buffet (I guess due to the fact that there were more hotel guests).
The pool area is also great and quiet and on the side you can go directly to the beach (where there are also sun loungers). The hotel also offers inflatable rings for free for floating around in the sea.
Hotel also offers bikes for free for hotel guests to cycling around Ngapali Beach area.
Only downside is that restaurant dinner menu as well as mini bar have higher prices than typical for Myanmar (but still on the affordable side).
And you can easily get some drinks and snacks from the local shops to enjoy on your room's balcony (with sea view).

Dear luiles, Thank you for choosing Merciel Retreat & Resort for your stay in Ngapali. We apologize that we are able to respond to you only now due to some movements in management team. Great to read that you love our spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staffs. It is wonderful that you find breakfast at our resort to be the best during your long stay in Myanmar. This is a great source of motivation to our F&B team to do better. Thank you for appreciating our pool and other facilities that we offer. Your fair comment regarding dinner menus is carefully noted. With new management team, new changes have been in place including set and à la carte menus for your dining options. Hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back at our resort.
