Travelers' Choice
Our resort is nestled amongst coconut palms on the pristine beach front where its 59 villas and cottages are scattered throughout the 6 acres of 450 meters long beach frontage and tropical gardens, most with ocean views. The resort's design concept is based on traditional South East Asia elegance, which is beautifully displayed thanks to the usage of local materials of various kinds of hard wood, stone carving and marble. The hotel interiors have been decorated with furnishings and fittings that were designed and produced exclusively for The Sandoway Resort.

We stayed here for 5 nights towards the end of our Myanmar tour. We had a beach cottage which was lovely. The cottage was spacious, very comfy bed, plenty of toiletries, a fresh drinking water tank, plenty of storage for clothes and cases. The bedroom is upstairs and also has floor day beds looking out to sea. We felt like we were in our own cottage not on a resort as it was just so comfortable and quiet. All of the staff without exception were helpful, friendly and professional. The beach is huge and you can have a nice stroll in either direction. If you turn right and walk around twenty minutes there are two cute beach bars. If you turn left there’s a nice bar out on stilts on the water. The restaurant was really nice too, serving both local and continental options.

The Beach front villa is very spacious, the view is fantastic, the sea is very calm in the morning, seawater temperature is pleasant, perhaps 26-27 C in end January. The restauurant is good one, breakfasts are rich in a beautiful location in front of the beach. The resort manager was very friendly and helpful, he is a Croatian in origin and lived in Italy. The service of the staff is very pleasant smily and attentive. The spa and massage were fantastic and proffesional In some days there was noise from the neighbor village when there was a wedding, but the villa was located more near tge beach and distant from the village fence.

Setting fabulous- right on the beach with fantastic rooms and service. We are in the first night and paid 55USD for a simple meal. After that we explored the local restaurants and had better food at half the price. Very noisy over two night with amplified music from 05:00 to gone midnight for local community celebrations. This must be frequent as there is a notice in the room about it. Not the hotel’s fault - but a supply of earplugs would be a good idea. Very nicely kept gardens and a very good pool.

The highlight hotel of our visit to Myanmar and ticked every box. Ned the resident manager and his team have the Sandoway running beautifully. At the end of our stay it was impossible to pick out any member of staff who had not been absolutely superb in both attitude and ability. Everyone, including room service and security, had a smile on their face and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts alongside the beach were divine and bar service to our loungers on our immaculately maintained stretch of beach was speedy. Accommodation was stylish and comfortable and we didn't miss the absence of a TV. Despite it being a 4-star hotel, we'd rate it as nearer 5-stars.

I was so looking forward to a relaxing 4 days away from the busy streets of Yangon 20th Century Décor needs a facelift ! I haven’t felt compelled to write a TA report for a year or two, but our experience at the Sandoway Beach resort necessitated a review. To start with the good points. The reception was warm, the breakfast, lunch and drinks service was friendly. Even the movie theater was good fun (although a little odd to have one). The place was clean and the beach was spotless where the hotel looked after it. Now the not so good news. Opened in 1999, the place is showing its age and the Group really should think about refreshing their cottages as they certainly don’t (in my view) earn a 5 or 4 star. The cottages are constructed in dark wood; floors, walls, ceiling, furniture. There was precious little lighting and no spare plug sockets to charge phone/tablets etc. To charge your phone you have to unplug a light plunging you into even more gloom. We stayed a cottage one row back from the beach and there was no natural light in the cottage during the day….The furniture is clumsy and uncomfortable, there are two large stones acting as a footstools, not really relaxing. The bed (linen, pillows and mattress) were poor quality and we didn’t sleep well as a result. The shower room is in the same space as the wardrobe (no separating door), plus there’s no extractor fan, so your clothes become damp as does the whole cottage (including bedding).. Going out for the evening wearing damp clothes isn’t part of a 4-5 star experience Their website clearly states there are no TVs in their cottages, and I guess that’s why they have a cinema – but there is only one show a day at 9pm. This resort is described as a peaceful retreat and many people may enjoy the total lack of facilities… but I felt this place was far past its “sell by date” and the Group should seriously what their close competitors are offering by way of facilities at lower prices. I felt USD300+ was the least value for money I’ve experienced in year of travel across the region 20th Century Décor needs a facelift !
