A sustainable beachfront lodge in a tranquil community. Just 45 minutes by boat from Ngapali Beach lies a blissful hideaway where tourism has yet to leave it's mark. This is Maung Shwe Lay, a fishing village set on a quiet bay with white sands and swaying palm trees.

This place is something extraordinary! Starting from the moment the boat hits the sand on the beach and you walk barefoot the last meters to reach the lodge. This is the place to be if you are interested in observing the local's everyday life rather than crowds of fellow tourists.
It is the only hotel on the whole bay and beautifully setup right at sea bank and literally in the middle of a fishing village. The fishermen embark their boats in the evening right in front of you and if you wake up before sunrise you can see the boats come back in. The hotel staff are all locals from the village and they were happy and proud to tell us about their life and families and took us to visit their village.

We also enjoyed snorkeling and one day made a boat trip to another secluded beach with packed lunch from the hotel. If we would have had more days in this paradise, the lodge could have provided us mountain bikes to explore the surroundings a little further.

The rooms are spacious and stylishly decorated. All meals are served at the outside terrace restaurant with magnificent sea views and you get to taste a variety of local dishes.

We were a group of adults and school-aged kids and we all loved the place.

Everything starting from getting to Lalay Lodge is an experience: first the tuk tuk ride through the villages, seeing locals leading their daily life, then the boat ride on a small colorful boat and finally arriving to the lodge and being greeted by the warmest welcome :) The housing is amazingly beautiful and the rooms spacious and luxurious, yet simple and stylish. The local food is exquisite and fresh. One can eat on the open restaurant area, while enjoying the view to the sea and sipping the cocktails, relaxing in the bean bag or hammock. Simply lovely! Lalay lodge is a place to stay when you want to enjoy the comfortable/luxurious stay but in a more secluded area away from the more touristic Ngapali.

We live in Myanmar since 2015 and have been coming with our two daughters, now 6 and 9 yrs old, to Ngapali many times. This time we decided to not stay in a hotel at the main beach but at Lalay Lodge, which is located at the edge of a fishing village on a peninsula, about 40 min away by boat from the Ngapali jetty. It was the best stay we had in many years, simply because we wanted to get away from the crowds and the secluded location of the Lodge at a long beach was therefore perfect. The beach actually consists of two sections, one where you can search and find beautiful sea shells and one with a long sandy soft slope into the water that was perfect for swimming. We had a family room at the Lodge (one double and two single beds) which many other hotels we contacted earlier could not provide. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was of highest international standard. The Lodge is nicely designed and with only nine rooms a perfect retreat for a relaxing stay. The staff is super-friendly and can advise on the best snorkel spots and hikes. The lunch and dinner menu consisted of traditional Rakhine cuisine and the food was always fresh and very tasty. The lodge runs on solar and has applied sustainable principles consistently. In essence: we can't wait to get back for our next holiday and highly recommend it!

Looking for a piece of paradise on the coast of Myanmar? Try the newly opened Lalay Lodge in Ngapali! Those who seek a lodge without tourists, where there is almost "nothing", just one accommodation for tourists and a small fishing village, come to the right place. You can step up to a small golden pagoda for a romantic sunset (you will be all alone there), behind the bay you can hang out on a wide and crazily long white sandy beach, you can jump into the waves or snorkel (no people guaranteed!), or you can just relax in the hammock under the palm trees. Lalay Lodge is not an ordinary accommodation, from the end of Ngapali beach you still have 45 minutes by boat to the deserted bay, but it is definitely worth it! At least one night, but you'll see that you want to stay longer.

This place is unbelievably lovely. I hesitate to write a review because it's so delightful I dare not tell anyone else, but it deserves to be enjoyed. We had a delightful stay from start to finish - incredibly beautiful untouched beaches, lovely small village nearby and tranquility galore. The beds are comfortable and everything has been finished to a high spec. We saw bioluminescence in the sea at night and enjoyed the sound of the waves gently lapping at the front of the property underneath a full moon. Paddle boarding across the bay was so much fun, boards provided by Lalay. If you're looking for a secluded getaway, you'd struggle to find a more perfect location. Thank you to Pam and her team for taking such good care of our group and being so accommodating. I want to go back already!

For me, wanting to be quiet and free from the city, Lalay lodge is a real place. It is located on a beautiful beach and there are many other beautiful beaches nearby and you can do any sport activity as you like. It uses solar system for electricity and not only in the hotel, but also in the village, hotel management is leading doing an impressive environmental work. The healthy local dishes prepared by the local chef were also very mouth-watering for me. During my 5 days stay at Lalay lodge, I was very satisfied with the experience I had and happy to go again soon.

From the charming staff through to the simple but elegant and well designed rooms, staying at Lalay Lodge was a pleasure. The set meals meant no bothersome food decisions and we enjoyed the tasty, healthful Rakhine dishes that were served in the restaurant right next to the turquoise water of the bay. A highlight of our trip was a walk recommended by Edwin at the Lodge which took us through paddy fields, over the hills to the other side of the peninsula and back along the pristine deserted beaches, swimming and snorkelling as we went. The two day stay was a Christmas treat.

We stayed for 4 nights in February, and had a great experience that started from the beautiful boat journey across the bay to the lodge. It's about 45 minutes from the main and busy beaches at Ngapali, and is a world away. The lodge is excellent, right by the beach on the bay, and right in a local Rakhine fishing village.

The rooms are excellent, well appointed and spacious, the food and cocktails are amazing, the garden is a prefect chill-out place. There's also some great walks to nearby beaches, and plenty of activities that explore the coastal villages. There's bustling village life, and it was great to see the fishing boats come in early in the morning to unload their catch right on the beach by ox-cart. We also had a great seafood BBQ, all caught locally that day. Also enjoyed paddling out in the bay.

The lodge makes sure there's an excellent rapport with the village, with most if not all of the staff locals, and it has great initiatives to support the village life and economy, and hots the sustainability criteria well. Great place, we loved it.

We visited Laylay Lodge in February and it was one of the most relaxing experiences we have ever had. The boat rip across was fabulous, on arrival we were greeted by the very helpful staff, all of which spoke very good English and were from the local village, they are obviously very proud of the lodge.

The setting is tranquil with beautiful views over the bay, we were taken on a tour of the village and offered to pay but this was not accepted, gave a suitable tip to our young guide who explained that all tips are distributed to everyone which we liked.

The rooms are very well appointed and the food delicious.

Please do not hesitate to stay here or if time does not allow, do a day trip, you will not be disappointed.

I stayed 6 nights at Lalay with my family (3 kids) plus parents who were visiting us in Myanmar and we had a fantastic experience. The beach is beautiful and quiet, the sea at the bay is super safe for kids to swim as it is calm, no waves or current. The staff was really warm, friendly, involved and helpful and just adored our 9months old baby, arranged special baby meals for him, did some baby sitting etc. The rooms are super comfy and clean, beds are perfect. It felt like a unique hidden and unspoiled spot, only few tourists around and for is it was the perfect get-away from city life in Yangon!
