Looking for a piece of paradise on the coast of Myanmar? Try the newly opened Lalay Lodge in Ngapali! Those who seek a lodge without tourists, where there is almost "nothing", just one accommodation for tourists and a small fishing village, come to the right place. You can step up to a small golden pagoda for a romantic sunset (you will be all alone there), behind the bay you can hang out on a wide and crazily long white sandy beach, you can jump into the waves or snorkel (no people guaranteed!), or you can just relax in the hammock under the palm trees. Lalay Lodge is not an ordinary accommodation, from the end of Ngapali beach you still have 45 minutes by boat to the deserted bay, but it is definitely worth it! At least one night, but you'll see that you want to stay longer.

This place is unbelievably lovely. I hesitate to write a review because it's so delightful I dare not tell anyone else, but it deserves to be enjoyed. We had a delightful stay from start to finish - incredibly beautiful untouched beaches, lovely small village nearby and tranquility galore. The beds are comfortable and everything has been finished to a high spec. We saw bioluminescence in the sea at night and enjoyed the sound of the waves gently lapping at the front of the property underneath a full moon. Paddle boarding across the bay was so much fun, boards provided by Lalay. If you're looking for a secluded getaway, you'd struggle to find a more perfect location. Thank you to Pam and her team for taking such good care of our group and being so accommodating. I want to go back already!

The Lalay Lodge at Maung Shwe Lay ticks all the boxes if you like luxury, but a local experience combined, want to stay somewhere away from the crowds and need some time to yourself. > Rooms – perfect – very spacious and comfortable > Garden – excellent – great to relax, sun bath, read a book etc > Bar & Restaurant – wonderful – nice personal service, tasty local food and great cocktails > Staff – fantastic – a very young team that tries very hard to make you feel at home > Destination – chilled, relaxed and sooo off-the-beaten-track It is really worth travelling a bit further than Ngapali Beach – the experience makes up for it!

Stayed here for 4 nights in January and from the moment I was met at the airport to the moment I left it was amazing! Super friendly tuk tuk driver was waiting for me at the airport to take me to a boat that would deliver me to the hotel. The boat driver was a happy chap that pointed things out to me along the way and made sure I was happy, safe and comfortable. Coming in to shore on arrival was like arriving into a little paradise...white sands and smiling locals. A beautiful and tasteful lodge with immaculate and incredibly comfortable rooms...more luxurious than I had expected. I relaxed for 4 days, taking walks through the local village, a bike ride to a stunning beach, reading in a hammock under the shade of a coconut tree, paddle boarding in amongst the fisherman heading out for their night out at sea...I had to pinch myself at how lucky I was. The food at the hotel was traditional and absolutely delicious (I even had to ask for a few of their recipes so I could recreate them back home...the tea leaf salad is AMAZING!!) The absolute highlight of my stay though was the level of care I received from Pam and the rest of the team at the lodge. I genuinely felt like I was at a home away from home...the staff were so friendly and kind and went out of their way to welcome to their home of Muang Shwe Lay and you could see a real pride in what they were doing. I really hope that I can come back and visit this beautiful place and see them all again one day.

We went on a snorkeling trip from Yoma Cherry Lodge in Ngapali and afterwards the boat took us to Lalay Lodge for lunch...Wow! A perfect 240 degree crescent bay of sandy beach backed by tall gently swaying palms....more beautiful than most travel brochures! The beach is probably 3 miles around...and almost deserted...we only saw about 6 hotel guests and 6 locals in 4 hours! The lodge is small with less than 10 rooms and only opened a few months ago, with local village staff who are so v& melon as we sat inside 'talking' with playful children, though they were everywhere shilling, laughing and shouting hello....tourists are still pretty rare! We walked back to Lalay along the beach, gathering lovely shells and saw two ox drawn carts before having a wonderful lunch of local dishes. Finally, as we left, Pam, the general manager, and four of the loveliest staff carried our shoulder bags to the beach and waved goodbye as we got onto the boat. All in all, a fabulous day...Pam and her local staff should be so pleased and proud with all they have achieved....though an idyllic, remote, peaceful location also helps!!!
