Quite possibly the best hotel in Phonsavan and also the newest. We pre booked a VIP room – The hotel may be new, however many features are still trapped in a time warp….. The room was large and comfortable – You still require a key to open the room door, and the key must be left at the front desk daily if you wish daily maid service. Note worthy, that for a new hotel there is a lack of electrical receptacles and no USB charging ports. The hot water is on demand but has a capacity of three to five minutes before turning to cold water showers! A plus is the location – Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops as the hotel has no restaurant but plans to open one soon! On the down side – The walls and doors allow hallway noise. The windows and exterior walls allow outside noise to permeate. We were awakened nightly by vehicle noise, noisy parties outside the hotel and guests returning late to their rooms….. New Hotel with No Safe – Warnings posted by the hotel about not being responsible for anything left in the room Breakfast was mostly Lao + Eggs, Fruit, juice & Coffee Good Value for the price…
This hotel is on a very busy street and has no security at the front Reception to keep anyone off the street from walking in and using the elevator. Twice we had someone turning and pushing to get into our room, not acknowledging who they were. It is in a good location for walking to restaurants, etc. And the breakfast is substantial.
I can only assume there are two hotels of this name in Phonsavan because my experience was far from that of other reviewers. For a start it is a longish walk from what passes for a centre in the town, where the three best (or least bad) restaurants are situated (Italian, US, Indian). Transport in the town is minimal. The hotel has a restaurant but it is open from 7 to 9 in the morning uniquely, for a breakfast aimed at the Chinese tour groups who make up most of the clientele. Power cuts both in individual rooms and more generally are common. No glasses, cups, tea , coffee, soap provided, though helpfully there was a kettle. Air conditioning only setting is cool (it can be cold at night). Staff affable but not hugely competent or English-speaking. No bar though beer available at reception.…
The town has no 4* accommodation, so Favanhmai is probably the best 3* hotel in Phonsavan. Simple yet functional. Big spacious room. Surprisingly good breakfast. Fast and reliable internet. No swimming pool.
1. Location: Not near the main eateries and (few) attractions in town. But easily reached on foot in about 15 minutes' leisurely walk. Given there are not that many options, not really much to complain about here. 2. Rooms: Although the hotel is rather new, it does seem pretty dated in terms of furnishing. That said, rooms are clean and a/c and bathroom functions well. Beds are comfortable. However, you might be better off with your own toiletries. Temperature drops a bit in these parts; bathroom has hot water, but - of no fault of the hotel - blackouts are frequent, which means there will be no hot water or wifi. Wash up as soon as you can once back in hotel. 3. Amenities: Breakfast is sufficient to get a filling start to the day. Wifi is iffy, but mostly ok. Not a pretty place, but definitely functional, given the choices available here. 4. Staff: Some difficulty in communicating in English, but nothing to complain about too.…
