I'm only now writing up our trip to Laos in April 2017 (!) and need to write about the Eco Lodge outside Vang Vieng. We stayed at Pi Mai Lao. It was a magical experience away from the new year madness. Clean rooms, on the river... great food in the riverside indoor/outdoor dining room. Stunningly beautiful location and really helpful owner and friendly staff. We rented bikes to begin with but then took a tiny motorbike and went exploring. It was a major highlight of our trip and I wish we had stayed longer but we couldn't. Two nights and days of heaven in the mountains.
I was picked up by a gentleman called Pakpan from town upon arrival. Pakpan manages this place since about 3+ years ago. He was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. He also provided helpful advice on what to do and where to eat based on my preferences. The reception team was always helpful. Some of the units in this accommodation are either newly built or renovated. I stayed in a tent for the experience, sure enough it didn’t disappoint. During bed time, you can hear the sound of crickets and in morning you’re awakened by the sound of the water flowing in Song River, where my tent was just right in front of it. A big change from staying in the town, where the night scene will go on till late or in a backpacker hostel. The tent was in an excellent condition, blanket, air pumped mattress and pillow were so comfortable. You will get to see nearby villagers such as children collecting branches/twigs in their cart as well river water in buckets so they could bring them home for use. Also the villagers will wash their clothes at the river, a bonus as such authentic scene is rare. You could walk out to the nearby villagers homes and take photographs of them, with permission of course (I assume it's a courtesy to!). As the location is about 6- 7 kilometers away from town, I rely on Pakpan or his wife for their transport to head out and back. I was always asked how my day went and if I slept well by Pakpan. It’s great to feel at home here. I joined Pakpan's wife to the morning market one day and saw some interesting stuff like local dried herbs and food such as uncooked field rats. In my personal view, this accommodation is suitable for someone who prefers a quieter and close to nature stay. There is an on-site restaurant serving Lao, Thai and Western food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.…
It's 7km outside the filthy hell hole that is Vang Vieng but that can feel a little fat when relying on Tuktuk's. Lovely location though and the owner really can't do enough for you, he even gave us a free lift into town.
I stayed at this resort 2 nights and i really like them. Their room are nice, clean and look new. Location is only 7 kms away from central. But you will enjoy the rice field, river and mountain view from morning to evening. Every morning I woke up and the view from the glass windows show fog cover the top of the mountains. When I stand at the balcony then can see more wide view and fresh are with wind blow around you. This is real natural. Besides of the room and view, their staff are also very friendly and kind. The owner also come to greeting us and share information about this city. I will stay there again if I travel to Vang Vieng again.
My friend and I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and we have such a great time here! The room is great and clean at a reasonable price. (Breakfast included) The location is not the problem at all since the staff are really helpful. There're a pick up and drop off service so we can easily enjoy our trip in VangVieng and still be able to get back. Also the location is very nice and peaceful. I'd not hesitate to come back again next time. So if you enjoy the nature, I'd recommend to contact the hotel for further information.
