Where do I start... OMG the bed 5* 🙌 this hotel has the biggest, comfiest bed I ever slept on. The most welcoming staff in the hotel that greet you by your name.
We were welcomed on arrival by Divya guest relations who explained everything to get us started.
Arrival was in the morning after our flight from UK. We were greeted in the welcome pavilion with a drink and holt refreshing towel whilst waiting for our buggy to main hotel reception. However rooms not available until 3pm usually but a shower facility in the spa can be arranged whilst waiting for the room. They will do all they can to make the room available for you ASAP.
Once shown to our room, wow.! Massive bed, beautiful facilities, outdoor shower in a totally private courtyard, out door bath in a semi private garden (leads to the beach ) plus a proper shower etc in the bathroom, robes, slippers, dressing area, full length mirrors, hair dryer, towels, face cloths, toiletries... They've thought of it all. Magnificent. (room number 134)
Restaurants-The food is lovely, there's always something to eat, the buffet changes daily ranging from Mauritian / Asian / Seafood /Mediterranean cuisine fusions. Breakfast is a also a delicious buffet. Waiting staff in the restaurant, particularly Levi are excellent and offer wine recommendations based on the cuisine on offer that evening. The bar staff are outstanding and so friendly. Jamy, Neelan, Amman to name but a few are just perfect hosts to brighten your already sunny day.
Concierge Raj is a brilliant chap, helped us book our car hire with Europcar. Always checking in on us and making sure we are well and all is good in our stay. We came to celebrate our anniversary and a lovely cake was arranged and a light show in the bedroom in the evening which was a lovely touch. We used an independent travel agent with a ground handler to come here. The ground handlers Coquille Bonheur have been amazing. They were faultless at the airport on arrival, came to see us on our hotel, organised trips if we wanted them (we did Ile Aux Cerf with them I'll write that separately) it was outstanding and the driver was also your guide for the journey. Highly recommend them.
Evening entertainment is a singer or 2 very chilled atmosphere, no 'show style' entertainment or Animation team. So if you're looking for loud brash 'all inclusive' holiday this isn't the place for you. But if you want superb comfort, top class service and a chilled relaxed atmosphere then I would recommend here. We would definitely come back.

The hotel in the south of Mauritius offers everything you could wish for on an island holiday. The range of offerings within the hotel is so varied that little is left to be desired. All the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome. The rooms are spacious, clean and well-kept. The daily service is very considerate and thoughtful. We even had fresh flowers put in our room once. You don't really feel like you're "just" in a hotel. The incredibly green hotel complex also contributes to this, creating maximum privacy. You feel like you're walking through a garden the whole time. The whole complex is really beautifully designed, with lots of palm trees and beautiful, partly flowering trees and bushes. The food in the hotel was also very good. The dinner buffet menu changes daily and is international. The breakfast buffet is so varied that everyone will find something to suit them. Everything is fresh and some of it is even prepared directly in a small presentation kitchen. There are various water sports activities, tennis, fitness or just relaxation options in the spa. The hotel offers a rental car or taxi service directly in the hotel. We tried both and it worked smoothly. This took all the stress out of organizing and the prices were the same as our online research showed. The best thing for us was the beach right next to the hotel. When we traveled in early/mid December, it was only used by hotel guests and is so big that we were mostly alone. For us, it was a really nice and relaxing stay. We will definitely stay at the SO/Sofitel again on our next visit.

Beautiful and like in paradise, the hotel complex is located in a large bay, due to the quiet location it is like on a private beach. The bungalow-style rooms are perfectly built in a tropical park, each has its own tranquility and sea views. The staff is very friendly and welcoming throughout the hotel, you feel very welcome and are greeted with a smile everywhere. The food is very varied and freshly prepared, there was always something for our children. You can snorkel right in front of the hotel, or swim in the very nice pool, the bungalows also all have a not so small private pool. We felt very welcome and comfortable for 10 days, and are already planning our next stay. Thanks to the whole team!!

Great location but very poor service. We stayed there for 10 nights, our bedding was never changed! We stripped the bed twice but they just used the dirty sheets and remade it. Rooms were cleaned between 4-6pm, no teas, towels or water was replaced we had to ask every time. After 4 days stay they gave us 4 additional teabags. In the end we just bought some water & tea from shops. The service was really poor at breakfast, bar & restaurants. Only one person was excellent, Marie Michelle, she worked at the egg station during breakfast time but ran the whole area. They should use her to train the staff team. Most of them just said they were overworked, even when we were the only people in the bar we had to go and ask for drinks & food. We were not told about the free daily boat ride or 30 mins free use of hamam for guests. The shower area was a bit mouldy & dated but our villa was huge. In the end we just gave up on the hotel and ate out. Location is perfect with sting rays coming right up to the beach. Beach is really stunning with good swimming pool.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay at So Sofitel. We appreciate your comments, as they provide us with valuable insights into our guests' experiences. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed our stunning location and the beautiful beach, as well as the spaciousness of your villa. However, I am truly sorry to learn about the issues you faced during your stay, particularly regarding service and housekeeping. This is not the level of service we aim to provide, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. It is concerning to hear that your bedding was not changed during your stay and that essential items like tea, towels, and water were not replenished without request. I will ensure that this feedback is addressed with our housekeeping team to reinforce our standards for cleanliness and guest service. I appreciate your recognition of Marie Michelle's exceptional service at the egg station during breakfast. We will certainly consider your suggestion to utilize her skills in training our staff to enhance overall service quality. Regarding the lack of communication about our complimentary amenities, such as the daily boat ride and free use of the hamam, I apologize for any oversight in informing you about these offerings. We strive to ensure that all guests are aware of the services available to them. Your comments about the shower area have also been noted, and we will look into addressing any maintenance issues to improve our facilities. Thank you once again for your feedback. We take all guest comments seriously as we work towards enhancing our services and ensuring a better experience for future guests. Warm regards, So/ Sofitel Team

our recent stay at SO Sofitel Mauritius, which was an outright failure to deliver the standards you advertise. The following serious issues made our stay unpleasant and unacceptable:
1. Open-Air Tub Issue Despite calling reception three times, waiting for a response, and the staff’s eventual intervention, the problems were “solved” after one hour. Then it took an additional 40 minutes to fill the tub due to leaks, poor water pressure, and no hot water. The open-air tub was a primary reason for booking your property, and this failure ruined our experience. When we raised the issue, a representative claimed, “we don’t manage the water pressure.” This response is absurd—if not management, who is accountable for maintaining the infrastructure and facilities of a luxury property?
2. Incorrect Dinner Timing Your staff misinformed us, stating that dinner started at 6:00 pm, while it actually began at 7:00 pm. This forced us to wait unnecessarily for 20 minutes, disrupting our plans and revealing poor internal communication and a lack of professionalism.
3. Misleading Information About Pool Facilities Upon inquiry, an employee claimed the swimming pool was not equipped to heat, contradicting your website, which states the pool is heated. The water activities be cancelled due to weather conditions and safety reasons, we would understand the pool is not accessible due to the weather condition. This is misleading and indicates a lack of coordination between your advertised amenities on your website and on-site staff.
4. Unprofessional Staff Behavior While present, we overheard staff gossiping in Creole, assuming we wouldn’t understand. When we raised this, the manager’s response—that they “cannot manage what staff say or gossip about”—so it seems “acceptable to gossip about guests in their presence on the premises”.
5. Failure in Basic Housekeeping Standards The cleaner failed to replace towels and cups during the overnight cleaning. Despite staying at a property marketed as a five-star luxury resort, it was shocking to return to a room with used towels and dirty cups still in place. This reflects a lack of attention to basic hygiene and housekeeping standards, further undermining the credibility of your services. Such negligence is entirely unacceptable and further demonstrates a systemic failure in maintaining the quality your guests expect.
This has been the worst stars luxury service, not fitting the standards, completely ruined our celebration!

We spent two weeks for our honeymoon in the So Sofitel hotel in July 2023. Our stay went very well, the hotel staff was very welcoming, caring, attentive and took care of us every day . The location of the hotel is ideal if you like calm, nature and a change of scenery. Its location is far from the bustle of the cities, but the hotel is in partnership with an organization offering many interesting excursions throughout the island.
No need to rent a car either because the hotel is in contact with freelance drivers who can drop us off wherever we want, and accompany us all day. Ex: €80 to take us to Flic en Flac and Le Morne from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the driver waits in the car while we walk around.
The rooms are in good condition and cleaned every day. Free bottled water is provided in the room every day.
The buffet in the morning and evening is very varied and there are different themes each evening. For lunch, the bar offers à la carte meals. You should know that it is winter in Mauritius from May to October. The weather was a little rainy but temperatures could rise up to 25°. However, it is an ideal time to avoid too many crowds and be calm. The pool is not heated, but this is a project for the year and tests are currently underway. On the other hand, there is the spa, which offers a free hot water bath, one cold water bath and several hamams. The massages offered are also very qualitative and pleasant.
The beach bordering the hotel is very beautiful, and there is almost no seaweed. There are different ways to entertain yourself: a life-size chess game, a gym with different machines, 2 tennis courts, a ping-pong table, a children's playground, a souvenir shop , etc… There is also the possibility of horseback riding on the beach. In addition, in the evening, there are sometimes singers who come to liven up the evenings.
To summarize in three essential points: - The change of scenery and the idyllic setting in lush vegetation, - Warm support from the teams, - The variety of dishes offered.
Thank you to all the members of the staff of the So Sofitel hotel, whom we would like to thank very warmly for their welcome and their kindness towards us.
The director Didier, who is extremely kind and with whom we were able to interact, and his team, in his image: Jamy, Divya, Steven, Raj, Anastasja, Milesh, Shaylin (sorry, if I misspelled some names), and all the people whose names we have forgotten. We therefore recommend the So Sofitel hotel! R and A, ch. 120

We stayed 14 nights at So Sofitel Mauritius. Everything was perfect, first the welcome of a great team, smiling, with little care. We haven’t picked up all the names, but the heart is there. In particular thanks to Raj, always ready to help, to Linley, who has a pleasant conversation every day, to Marie-Michelle, her smile and her unforgettable omelets. Always a small spontaneous and natural greeting from the people we meet. The room open to the gardens with ocean view was very beautiful and comfortable, spacious with the front garden and outdoor bathtub, very functional indoor shower, outdoor shower in a small patio at the back, separate toilet, double sink in the center of the room, large dressing room etc. We finish with the fine and succulent food, with a daily theme, both in the beach restaurant and in the main restaurant. The presentation is highly sought after. Finally the gardens are breathtakingly beautiful, beautifully maintained. The beach is beautiful with its armchairs and deckchairs, very relaxing, we never tire of looking at the coral reef in the distance.🐠🐟 We were very touched by the surprises made on the occasion of our wedding anniversary, the superb bouquet 🌸that held the whole stay, the cake, the bright atmosphere..😊 I ended up with the spa, the massage chosen was perfect. “Sir” Jean-Marie and Bernadette

I was surprised with a cake and projector in my room and a special decoration! Thank you for the effort and attention to details!
Room cleanliness was on spot everyday and housekeeping made sure to leave a small decoration which was very much appreciated after a long day out.
Food in restaurants was good and Mauritian night was just perfect to discover the local flavors of the island.
Amazing view from the room and picturesque view around the resort! I would say stepping in another world!
Staff are welcoming, always ready to help and full of joy. Thank you to the whole team!

The staff at this hotel are definitely its biggest asset. Special shout-out to Pardeep, Anastasia, Jami, Levi, Jevin, Linley, Sanjivee, Silvio, and Raj, as well as the lovely girl who checked us in (unfortunately, I didn’t catch her name). Honestly, all the staff are absolutely lovely.
Pros:
• The staff: Everyone, at every level and in every area, was fantastic.
• Relaxing atmosphere: This is the perfect place if you’re looking for complete relaxation it's so peaceful perfect for us.
• Tasty food, with options available for vegetarians as well. Anastasia went out her way to ensure there were vegetarian options and often got a dish made from chef (was lovely). Also the girl a check in arranged for chef to come an talk about vegetarian options.
• For a 5-star hotel, I expected things to be spotless in terms of cleanliness. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The roller blind in our room needed a good scrub, as it had multiple stains. The floors didn’t seem to have been mopped during our stay, and some of the plastic cups provided for drinks at the beach weren’t fully clean.
• The property looked a bit worn in some areas, possibly because it wasn't peak season yet. However, at 5-star prices, this shouldn't be the case.
• Water should be complimentary at lunch and dinner, or at least have a refill station.
None of these points made our holiday bad at all, but addressing them would certainly have enhanced the experience and made us more likely to return.
One thing that affected us greatly at the end of our holiday was seeing a small kitten meowing from hunger. We felt immensely guilty not being able to feed it or knowing if it would be fed. As animal lovers, it broke our hearts. We did see a cat at dinner being fed by a guest, which made us feel a bit better. Our suggestion would be to create a sanctuary for the cats, where guests could feed them and make donations to ensure their well-being. I believe many guests would gladly do this, as it would make their stay more enjoyable knowing they were helping. Additionally, this could keep the cats away from restaurant areas and prevent any discomfort for guests who may not like animals. I've noticed a few other comments mentioning this issue, so please take these suggestions about the cats into consideration.
Thanks again.

The beach waters at the hotel is more suitable for relaxation & "dipping your toes in". We recommend a boat trip. AJ was very helpful with information on available options and also made the booking for us. We went with La Criee boat tours.
There are more places to choose from in the Bel Ombre area.
