We spent 3 night at El Karama in late June and had the place to ourselves. This meant personal and personalized service from the attentive and dedicated staff. Our game drives were educational and exciting. Our meals were leisurely and delicious. We got to know the place well and visited the local farm one afternoon. The lodging -- with canvas... More

My nephew brought us to El Karama for a 2 day safari as part of our 7 day trip to Kenya. These were the best two days of our trip. It was a completely different feel from the other "hotel" type safari we were on (which was also good) in the sense that the accommodation and interaction with the staff/owners... More

I loved, loved, loved this property. There was a great feeling of how much care and attention to detail has gone into every space here. Murray & Sophie are an amazing couple who have carefully balanced having a lodge and protecting the land. I was just so impressed by how comfortable the pillows were, to how unique the shower was,... We have enjoyed our stay very much. It is away from the "demanding" tourists and close to heaven for anybody appreciating an intimate and small facility who do not compromise in the quality of service. One word: excellent

El Karama Lodge is on a privately owned estate west of Mount Kenya on the Laikipia plain. Over many years the land has been carefully managed to preserve the right balance between a working ranch and the natural environment. The result is quite wonderful. This is a truly authentic experience with all the ingredients that give Kenya its unique character... More

It is ALMOST too good to be true but the gentle, compassionate, ethical spirit wove through every interaction we saw in our 3 night/4 day stay: with the environment, the animals, the staff, the guests, and one another. The intimate, personalized service (offered in stride) was so far above anything we’ve experienced before accommodating mobility challenges, gluten free food, and... More

We really enjoyed our time at El Karama - everything was so peaceful and relaxing. We stayed with our children (9 and 12) who were very much welcomed - the staff were so good, helping them to fish, taking us on a safari walk and also taking us to visit the farm (this is definitely worth building in, if you... El Karama is located within the Laikipia district in Kenya. It is set in a 40,000 square km of ecosystem and offers a truly unique safari experience. The lodge is pretty small in size offering around four tents that sleep two people, a small little cottage with its en-suite as a smaller outhouse next to it, and a larger cottage... More

We came here on recommendation from a friend and not really sure what to expect, we arrived at night after a very long drive. (I wouldn't recommend driving at dusk/night as there is a 15km drive on a dirt track though the bush). We were greeted by the exceptionally friendly staff and shown to our jaw-dropping family cabin. Hoping to... More

The lodge is run entirely on solar energy and our overall aim as a family is to work closely with the community around us and with our guests to ensure that we preserve the habitat and wildlife of El Karama and Laikipia through responsible eco tourism and sensitive management of our natural resources. ... more   less
