This newly opened 12 room hotel is just the right stuff on your way to and from the rhino charge. James is an entertaining host and gives a great narration of Jack's bar and origin of Soames. Very clean cut rooms all with a view of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares. Cosy lounge and the fare is carefully thought out and excellently prepared. Can get quite nippy so make sure you have warm clothing otherwise the fireplace in the lounge at Jack's bar is a swell conversation point.
Our food was fine dinning to say the least. The Zanzibar soup is so tasty and is served with home made focaccia bread. The steak was tender and the best we have had in Kenya. We managed to only share a dessert because we were so full and had the banoffee pie - what a treat. Highly recommend the food and obviously, everything is freshly cooked, so takes a little time, but well worth the wait.
Jack's Bar has superb décor (including some fabulous artwork/photography), delicious food, friendly staff and an excellent ambiance... can't think of a better place to have Sunday lunch in Nanyuki. Soames Hotel will open during the course of the coming week but a sneak preview of one of the rooms hints at equally beautiful décor and will be a 'must stopover' in weeks/month to come. Great work guys!
