Segera Retreat is a private reserve set in the heart of Laikipia, Kenya. The setting is indeed an oasis of calm and luxury, teaming with giraffes, zebras and elephants.
We arrived by private charter plane from the Nairobi airport. The resort has it own air strip enabling visitors to land and depart at any reasonable time of the day.
We booked one of the garden villas but was upgraded to the luxurious three-bedroom Farm House with a private pool and beautiful manicured grounds. We were so delighted staying in this huge house, furnished with luxurious leather sofas, art pieces and crystal chandeliers, very worthy of featuring in the Architectural Digest.
Much thanks to our very kind GM Jens and Manager Adash, checking on us everyday, making us felt cared for and safely tucked in. Also, we are so appreciative of our house butlers Collins and Sammy, making sure the furnishings are constantly clean and neat. Our food & beverage butler, Andrew, who elevated our stay with delicious wine and beautiful dining locations. Chef Elizabeth is the creative star who cooked up a different cuisine everyday. We love your roasted rack of lamb, it was divine!
Our safari guide Elvis and Merci (safari assistant), are worthy of a gold medal, worked relentlessly to spot the elusive leopard. We love the scenic spots you chose for our coffee and snack stops. Great experience!
We took the organic vegetable garden tour. Also, the ranger dogs were awesome. Totally worth doing. Do visit the spa as well, Rosanna is the most amazing masseuse!
The art gallery and art pieces throughout the retreat is an eye-opening art lesson!
Everything at Segera is done so well with great thought to experience, culture, and conservation. Nothing goes to waste. The Helicopter Tour, bee hives tour and The Bird's Nest will be on my next visit list.
There are no words to describe the tranquil, amazing energy this location and staff provide. This resort deserves more than five stars!

Set upon a large conservancy in Laikipia, Segera Retreat offered our family a unique holiday experience. We arrived at Segera on Christmas Eve and the staff ensured that our family felt the special feeling the season brings. Our accommodations, in the Segera House, were outstanding. This gorgeous three bedroom house was perfect for our family of five, with private pool and kitchen and views of the plains with passing giraffes. Safaris in this region take guests through the more mountainous terrain, with opportunities to see lions, elephant, giraffe, and more. Private dining for each meal give guests the privacy not available at most other camps which have communal dining. For "Out of Africa" fans, you will love seeing "Gammy", the plane flown by Robert Redford in the movie which now lives at Segera. Our guide and driver, Calvin and John, were excellent. We will surely visit this gem again.

A group of six of us went this October and had an amazing time. The COVID protocol was thorough. We had our temperatures taken every morning and evening. We were asked to sanitize our hands upon entering the safari jeep and on returning home. We actually were greeted with hot towels as well as sanitizer and a welcome home cocktail.
The setting was beautiful. The camp and lodge are wonderfully comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Each villa or cottage had a large terrace facing out toward the bush. Giraffes and zebras would come and graze outside. The animals of course are the draw, but more than anything the people in the camp were amazing. Our safari guide Elvis was intelligent and friendly and kept us rolling along. Lap rugs to keep us warm, thermos of coffee and tea, and cold drinks were all provided. Elizabeth we dubbed "The Queen" (hopefully not irreverently) as she cooked with incredible aptitude. Drinks were mixed and served by Lucas, and Piggy looked on managing everything and making sure we were well watered and fed. Elizabeth looked after our room and made us feel very comfortable indeed. Our host for our too short visit was Jens - smiling and quick to guide or help with any request. We could not have asked for a better welcome, and it was truly difficult to say good-bye. I give Segera 5 stars unreservedly, and hope to return one day.

Segera retreat is a stunning lodge in every way.
All the rooms are beautiful and each has its special touches.
The artistic sensibility of this lodge is one of the main reasons for staying here. I loved all the touches from the chandeliers, to the pottery, to the huge jars of honey, to the wash room in the former stable, the beads made by the local women, and the bronze boat in the area outside the gym. To me, this latter ensemble resembled a typical household structure in Cameroon.
The gardens are extraordinary as was the vegetable garden where we gathered greens for our lunch.
The food is simply delectable and always beautifully presented. I liked the fact that each meal was served in a different venue. The sous-chefs were almost as talented as the main chef.
I am writing this review several weeks after our stay and, unfortunately, I can’t remember all the names of the people who worked there to single out individually. Our very tall waiter, a Turkana, was charming, smart, gracious and always anxious to please. I was inspired by his life story.
Our safaris were most enjoyable and our guide charming and very knowledgeable.
The environmental goals of Segera are most admirable and I enjoyed learning about the variopus propgrams.
Unfortunately, I could not visit their school because my stay was during the weekend.
Thank you for a marvelous and memorable stay.

Segera is a sensational little oasis in northern Kenya. We were looked after with enormous care and attention by all the staff including Helena, Ardash, Mike the butler, Ntigay our guide and all the housekeepers and cooks. Our bedroom was beautifully arranged and wonderfully comfortable. The terrace had stunning views of the river and the waterhole where enormous herds of giraffe gathered and buffalo snoozed. The gardens are an absolute delight, beautifully maintained in such a dry area. Helena and Ardash organised our stay so that we had the luxury of absolute privacy particularly as there were just the two of us with our guide Ntigay who found all sorts of fascinating sightings for us. In addition, all our meals were served privately in different parts of the lodge, next to the pool or in the herb garden for lunch, in front of the roaring fire for dinner or in the exceptional wine cellar on another occasion. The food was absolutely delicious and Mike, our butler was extremely attentive to all our needs and preferences. We had a fabulous time, thank you all very much indeed.

We visited Segera Retreat with our family in Aigust 2023 and were blown away by what we found. Every detail of our stay was carefully tailored to our interests and desires, and our daily schedule reflected exactly what each of us wanted for our stay. The accommodations were superb, and the service was second-to-none. Our meals were fresh and followed our dietary specifications, but more than that, they were creative and artful; each dinner served in a unique locale around the property, making for a series of truly unforgettable dining experiences. From game drives to lounging by the pool to workouts in the gym, every moment of our stay was elevated by the care of the staff and management. It would be impossible to name a singular highlight of our stay, but contenders include a night in the Bird’s Nest, the cheetah cubs we found, or taking a private plane to the nearby elephant sanctuary. We recommend Segera Retreat for anyone seeking a truly memorable trip to a truly unique destination, and we already cannot wait to return.

An exceptional lodge and experience. We stayed here as it was a big birthday and they pulled out every stop to make me feel special. The location is amazing and seeing game come and go as you had lunch was breath taking. It’s luxurious without the pretence and the staff are second to none. The art is quirky and tells a story and the food was sustainable and magnificent. I would highly recommend this beautiful place and hope to return. We thoroughly pampered. Simply divine.

Thank you to the entire Segera team. We have visited quite a few safari destinations in Africa, but Segera tops most luxury lodges. It’s been a fantastic and unforgettable experience. The garden, the art installations, the interior design, the rooms, the wildlife experience, the service, and the food are all outstanding. Clearly the top safari lodge in Kenya for an unforgettable luxury safari experience. Boru our guide was excellent!! Every guest we met plans to return.

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico3 contributions4 helpful votesHello, I am Diane Meckler, currently staying at Segera Mission. While my photo shows me in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, I actually live in North Carolina now.
Presently I am staying a Segera Mission next door and am amazed at what they are doing to help the impoverished people of this area.
I formerly worked as an advertising manager at The New York Times and am looking to convince journalists to come here to film this extraordinary place.
We would then need high end accommodations such as you have to offer - and you are right next door!
If possible, I would like to view your premises next week, as I will be going home after that.
Sincerely,
Diane
.
