Wakatobi is inspired by the realization that great people are prepared to travel far to experience the most beautiful reefs left on the planet. It goes further than any other dive resort to be deserving of the most precious time of the year of its guests. Wakatobi is about maximizing value for its clientele. Reach Wakatobi non-stop from Bali through the Resort’s Guest Flight to our private airstrip.
From the moment you are picked up by the Wakatobi team in Bali it is nothing but excellence. You are escorted by your valet and briefed on your trip.
When you arrive at the island you are assigned a guide. We travelled with 3 (10/6/3)children and the resort provided complementary baby sitters and these ladies were exceptional they had activities for the kids very day and always went above and beyond.
The diving was incredible the biodiversity is amazing. I am a macro photographer and the pigmy seahorse population here is world class.
I come for the diving I stay for the food. Each and every meal is spectacular the freshness and quality of ingredients is unparalleled in a resort of this type. The pride that is taken in the restaurant is commendable.
You can bet I will be coming back
A Truly Magnificent Diving Location With Smiling Staff Who Cannot Do Enough to Help
As older divers, my husband and I went to Wakitobi to dive with maximum freedom and yet constant care. Everything WAS top care and kindness.
To help celebrate my 70th birthday, we were given a special candlelit dinner away from the restaurant - just for the 2 of us with a complimentary bottle of wine!
I love turtles and on one dive saw 18 turtles! The best!
After flying into their private airstrip and taking a short boat ride to the small resort, we encountered the staff waiting for our arrival. The 70's version of the TV show Fantasy Island suddenly popped into my head. And that's pretty much what it felt like I was living in for a week. I cannot say enough (as others said) about the exceptional service. The staff remembers everyone's name, which is such a nice touch. They go out of their way to make sure your experience is perfect, starting with a greeting sign at the jetway! As you exit the airport you see many signs of drivers waiting for their party. Wakatobi somehow got right to the plane. Wow! Any minor issue, and they will try to be sure it is taken care of. I was unfamiliar with how dive computers work, and several people made sure I knew how to use it. Internet access was a great lifeline. Spotty, but sometimes as fast as home. The food was fantastic…BUT several people in our group and others at the resort had some intestinal issues. We never could determine a cause. Others ate the same food and had no problems. But I recommend having a good stock of immodium ready at the first sign. You don't want that distraction when diving at all their spectacular dive sites, which are usually within a 10 minute boat ride. We only had one night dive. More would have been a nice option. I really enjoyed the excursion to the nearby village. The young kids followed us around, and it's interesting to see life in a remote Indonesian village. The behind-the-scenes tour was also fascinating. Wakatobi has a very interesting relationship with the area - some money goes for conservation, agreements are made not to fish in the area, and a large number of people are employed or helped by this small resort.

As an avid snorkeler (also a diver but quit diving several years ago), Wakatobi has been on my bucket list for years. Overall it did not disappoint. Let's start with the good. Beautiful island! The ocean bungalows were a great size for 2 people. The a/c worked well and I loved the outdoor shower. It was quiet and peaceful. The grounds were immaculately groomed each day. They even raked designs into the sand all over the island. The staff was incredible. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knows your name by the second day. They went above and beyond with any request. My friend had very little snorkel experience and a disability and they provided us a last minute private guide (at a cost) to get her up to speed. He was so patient and kind working with her to get comfortable. The dive boats were roomy and spacious and Wakatobi was not stingy about letting us space out. They provided snacks and drinks on the boat as well as hot towels as soon as you came out of the water. As snorkelers, we had no more than 4 people in our group and most days it was just 1-2. I was worried as a snorkeler that I would be treated as a second class citizen to the divers and that was not the case at all. They prioritized our comfort and pleasure just as much as everyone else. The snorkeling itself was amazing. I've never seen so much healthy coral and sheer amount of fishlife. I will say that there are no big critters here so if that's your thing, I would bypass it. I was able to see octopus, cuddlefish, turtles, eagle ray, lots of sea snakes, and too many fish to count. We had great visibility but a couple of days the sea was pretty rough. They worked hard to accommodate for that. Now the not so good...the food. This is not a knock on the waitstaff or kitchen staff who was, again, all incredible. The food is buffet style (which is not my favorite to begin with). It was all fine. Nothing terrible, nothing spectacular. Fairly bland. Desserts were the worst. Tasteless and not sweet. Same for the ice cream that so many people seemed to enjoy. Apparently there was pasta that could be specially ordered but it took us over half the week to figure that out. They should be more forthcoming about the options available outside of the buffet. I could deal with the food in exchange for everything else but it's not a reason to go here. I was pretty sick of it after a week. This is a small thing but I also got pretty tired of the barefoot requirement. You are not allowed to wear shoes inside any of the buildings so you have to wear your flip flops to get there, wash your feet, and leave your shoes at the door. I have plantar fascitis and going barefoot is painful for me after a while so I didn't like being forced to do so. Also, one guy there the week we were there had his flip flops stolen and never found (that had to be intentional). I would say the worst thing on our stay at Wakatobi had to do with the owner's son. He looked to be about 8-10 years old. He was on our flight to Wakatobi and was there the whole week. And believe me, you heard him before you saw him. He was constantly yelling, running, pushing guests out of the way at the buffet. He clobbered my friend trying to get her snorkeling bearings on the house reef the first day. His parents were not around and the staff was subjected to taking care of this kid. His nickname was the "pest." Honestly, it almost ruined the whole experience for me as I didn't pay thousands of dollars to be subjected to the owner's unruly kid and I felt sorry for the staff who looked like they were also being tortured dealing with him. Overall, the trip was amazing and Wakatobi is a magical place that I'll always remember. It definitely opened my eyes to an underwater world I want to experience again.…

Wakatobi has been an absolutely amazing experience. The diving is mind-blowing…the health of the reefs and the sheer number of species makes for fantastic dives…and the snorkeling right on the house reef is literally the best we have seen in the world. Accommodations and food have been lovely, but the thing that makes wakatobi really stand out (besides diving) is the service. Every single person on the staff is lovely, always smiling, always wanting to help…from the dive guides to food staff to front desk to maintenance. They made us feel at home and welcome every single minute. Can’t wait to come back!

My dive travel experience; Instructor 2247 dives 92.5 weeks of travel outside of the US for diving Not an easy place to get to but a very nice property. We stayed for a total of eleven nights (36 dives) and were travelling with a couple that often travel with us. I would give it a five star rating if it was not for a service issue we had with one of their staff. Starting with the resort. We had a standard non-view room and it was plenty spacious with a good bed. The pillows were just okay, but interestingly the resort has several pillows to choose from. I tried two different kinds but did not like either. The property is very well manicured and very clean. The restaurant was buffet only and a bit odd on the food choices for my taste, but everyone else seemed to like it. The service from the hotel and restaurant staff was amazing. They call you by your name after the second day. Now for the diving. The house reef is a great dive but not very accessible. It is dependent on the currents and the tides. The staff do their best to make the house reef as diveable a possible, but it can be a bit difficult. The boats used to reach the dive spots are very large and roomy with easy entry and exits. The dive guides did their best to find you critters, but unfortunately I felt the diving in the area was a bit boring with mostly poor visibility. We rarely got more than 60 feet of vis and although the reefs and fish life were above average, the critters were lacking. This certainly is no Raja Ampat nor does it have any muck. So, here was my issue. I found the local staff to be very pleasant and accommodating but the white staff (scuba shop) to be mostly uninterested in you or your needs. Our last day of diving it was announced that we would be repeating a dive site for the third time. I strolled over to the two dive guides on the boat, one being an Indonesian who was our guide and the second a white guide, and requested that we go somewhere else as the four in my group had done the dive twice before. The white guy immediately spoke up and said we could not as his dive group had not been there yet. He basically left us with no option or suggestions. By the way there were only two in his group. The good news is our guide worked it out and we were moved to another boat, but it was inconvenient. This was not the only issue with white employees at the hotel as they mostly walked by you without acknowledging your existence. Again, nice place with generally great service, but the diving was not what I expect from Indonesia.…

Outstanding experience with every detail carefully thought through! Over 40 plus dive sites, spectacular guides, excellent equipment, attentive and friendly service and world class food. The restaurant focuses on local ingredients and specialities. It will be difficult to go anywhere else and the high percentage of repeat visitors says it all. They take care of you from the very first email enquiry until you return home. What other resort would arrange for land tours with their own guides a week before you step foot on the resort. You will not be disappointed and this organizations gives back to the local community and is helping to protect the local reefs. They are serious about protecting the local area.

Wakatobi must be the finest dive resort in the world. It's hard to imagine how to improve on it. The beautiful and beautifully maintained complex, the 40+ pristine dive sites over a vast area, the exceptionally comfortable bungalows, the excellent and varied food, and the delightful and expert staff all add up to a superb experience. It's also one of the very best places for a "mixed couple" (a diver and a snorkeler) to visit. The dive team takes care of the snorkelers with the same attention and expertise as the divemasters do for the scuba divers. And, there are many dive sites that are equally good for snorkelers. Wakatobi is worth every penny!

We had a wonderful time at Wakatobi Dive Resort. As people have said before, the service, food, underwater world, accommodation were all amazing. My husband and I are snorkellers, not divers. I had injured my foot just before the trip and was in a moon boot (for walking, swimming was fine). Everyone at the resort was very kind. We had a bungalow close to the dining room and dive centre. The boat staff and our guide, Christian, were very helpful with my incapacity. Once in the water, I was fine. The soft corals and fish were the best we have ever seen - we have been to the Caribbean, Thailand, Maldives. We didn't see much macro, but we probably didn't try hard enough. Being on shoulder season, we had a few days of storms and some choppy seas and the currents were new to us. The guides were wonderful, however, at showing us when to change direction. We had the most wonderful drift snorkel from Turkey Beach back to the resort. From being met off the plane in Bali to the transfers and the introduction to the resort, everything was top class. As others have said, the staff in the dining room knew our names on day 1, which goes a long way to feeling like family. We would love to go back to explore more and see the amazing sealife again. The fact that we were snorkellers and not divers made no difference - we were treated so well.…

Ready for a couple retreat far from busy life? then this is your place.. but with your wallet. This week holiday is a surprise gift from my husband for our 25th anniversary of marriage. So yes! relax, dive, massage, private dinner at the beach on D day… All is here to make you dream and relax forever. The crew is awesome! well organized for their clients. The Manager « Chris » is from Switzerland so a francophone! Nice. I could speak French - as well as two other international couples like mine. lots pf Americans, retired i would say… looking for warm waters (as one mentioned). I don’t know the budget for a week but i’m sure it’s not for backpackers. 💕💕💕🌈🌈🌈

I can honestly say that our experience during our week at Wakatobi was the best overall dive trip we have taken since we started diving in 2008! Been to some amazing dive spots (Palau, Solomon Islands, Rabaul, PNG) but the service, attention to every detail at Wakatobi can't compare anywhere! Charter Flight from Bali, we were met after our week in Bali, had someone check us in then we waited eating breakfast until flight was ready. Beach cabin, king bed so comfortable, beach path kept swept, chairs to lounge, AC worked and wifi good for relaxing time! They even provide choice of pillows! Food was really good, we always chose Indonesian food but there was always a choice and they would make it if they could. Dive crew, exceptional, personable and efficient. Comfortable large dive boats, easy off and on, hot towels, coffee, nibbles between dives. Coral in good shape and plenty of big and small to entertain! Resort Staff were lovely, happy and knew you by name quickly. Medical nurse on hand (husband had a finger cut with stitches from earlier week in Bali that needed looking at after each day of diving, redressed and off we went). Got our $$$$$s worth and then some! Hope to return!…
