As a national historic landmark, Old Faithful Inn is the most requested lodging facility in the park. Built in 1903-1904 with local logs and stone, the Inn is considered the largest log structure in the world. The towering lobby features a massive stone fireplace and a hand-crafted clock made of copper, wood and wrought iron serving as focal points. Listen to live music in the awe-inspiring lobby or meet a local artist in our Inspired By Yellowstone artist series. With 327 rooms, the Old Faithful Inn is open from early May until mid-October and features a full-service restaurant, lounge, snack bar, gift shop and daily tours.

We woke up to something (rodents ?) in our room. We stayed in the old portion of the Inn on the second floor room 111. It has a queen bed with a rare full bath. We had snacks in our room and my wife heard rustling of the bags. She woke me with "something is in this room" I listened and sure enough something was in the snacks. I got up and an opened pita chip bag hit the floor. I saw nothing once I reached the light by the door and switched it on. I blame this all on Xantera, the operator of the Inn. It starts with the horrible experience in the Dining room. Once the site of the wealthy and powerful, now no better than a low cost buffet. (more on that later) People in the know or ones who have experienced the buffet bring in their own food to eat on the deck overlooking Old Faithful or in the lobby. Combine this with no housekeeping in the rooms.(rooms are cleaned only between guests) any crums on the floor stay there until guests change. Add this with an old log structure with electrical and steam heat piping cut into the structure and you will obviously have issues. So how to experience this Treasure we all own without subjecting yourself to Xanterra the concessionaire? Don't stay in the Inn or at least don't stay in the old house. You can enjoy the rocking chairs overlooking the main lobby or the deck overlooking Old Faithful without being a guest. As many many people do. Bring your own drinks or purchase at the bar near the deck. You can enjoy the music played each night and wrap yourself in the atmosphere of the lobby without missing a thing. If you stay in the Inn and specifically the old portion, Check the trash/recycling unit in your room. Be sure it's clean and NEVER use it. Place any trash each night in the containers at the end of the hallway. Keep any food in your car. Never eat in your room. We did not detect anything once we followed this the next night. Back to the dining room, the salad portion of the buffet was simple and always fresh. Vegetables were not replenished so we passed on the dregs as everyone else did. The person at the carving station cut 1/2" off the gray roast with a slight bit of pink (I will not call it Prime rib) and folded it in half and placed it on our plate by hand. (Gloved of course) but I've never experienced a carving station that did not use a carving fork. One bite is all I had. The grilled chicken was prepared early in the day and kept warm in the warming oven under the buffet so there is no chance of something fresh. Breakfast is ok but get there early if you want something warm. Try checking the reviews of the Old Faithful Lodge Cafeteria. We did not eat there as we discovered it too later. The stir-fry looked good prepared fresh in front of you. Now for the Covid/can't find help excuse: BS... Check out Lake Jackson Lodge in the Teton mountains just 90 minutes south of Old Faithful. We found the Concierge desk fully staffed and very helpful. Coffee bar in a lobby and the restaurants operating. We were just passing by so we did not eat there. Count on the reviews. This resort is in the Grand Tetons National Park but run by another company without the excuses. As for pricing. We ate at Bin 22, one of Jackson's most highly rated restaurants. We misjudged the portions so we ordered more food than we could eat. With plenty of wine, our check was $5 more than what we paid at the Old Faithful Inn buffet. Jackson WY is one of the most expensive towns to live in yet they had plenty staff.

We recently spent a few nights here. This place been on our bucket list for sometime. If you have not been, make sure to include this on your Yellowstone itinerary. We booked our stay over a half a year out (make note as this place fills up quick). Very cool property. It is supposedly the world's largest log structure. It is also on the Historic Hotels of America roster. Our room was adequate. We stayed in one of the rooms that did not include a private bath; just a sink. A bit of an inconvenience but all part of the experience. The shared bathroom down the hall was adequate and when I showered there, nobody was present. There were private stalls so would not have made a difference. Our biggest beef during our stay was with the front desk. The receptionist (Kim) told us that our room was not ready when we checked in at the 4PM (not 3PM) time. When we asked when we might expect it to be ready as we had to make plans for dinner, the evening in general, etc., his response was that he could not tell us. Having traveled all day, we asked if the room had a coffee maker in it for the morning. He assured us it did have a coffee maker. It did not. Having been in the customer service business most of my career (30+ years), somebody like Kim should not be working behind the reception desk. My coaching to Kim would be that you do not appease a customer by telling them what they want to hear only for them to find out what you said later was a complete lie. Shame on him.

Splurging on this $500+ a night stay, we expected so much more than we found. We expected small & sparse rooms with thin walls, but it was so much worse: *My husband exited the shower and informed me we had no soap (refillable bottles attached to the wall). A quick look showed no bottle (soap, shampoo, lotions) had been refilled prior to our stay. *Pulled down the sheets at bed time to find the mattress was not fully covered by the top sheet which was used as a bottom sheet - the bottom 1/4 of the mattress was not covered at all! And the sheet had a big black stain on it. YUK! We got the usual "can't get enough help" from the front desk as an excuse. If the inn doesn't have enough employees to make sure basic chores get accomplished, then they should only rent out the number of room they can adequately take care of. Even if we had paid $100 instead of $500+ per night, the condition of the room would have been unacceptable. I hope the National Park Service reconsiders their contract with Xanterra.

Well after a 2 day stay I left this hotel fuming - spending most of last night in bed writing and rewriting my TA review in my head. In looking at the reviews here, however, I see where pretty much everyone has beaten me to the punch. Oh well I'll leave an abbreviated version... PROS Lobby and dining room have great architecture Our dealings with the reception and dining personnel were professional and friendly (especially the young lady who wears a head scarf at the hostess stand) Umm, that's about it. CONS Leaving the lobby and working your way through the dingy halls to your room, old-school key in hand Opening the door and realizing a $49 roadside motel offers a better experience No table lamps - just two almost-bare bulbs in the ceiling. After a request the staff delivered one - broken, of course. No television (expected this after a similar dismal experience in Yosemite) No wi-fi. No wi-fi. No wi-fi. What???? The Snow Lodge across the parking lot offers it so don't give me any stories about how hard it would be to provide (the Snow Lodge lobby is filled with unhappy Old Faithful Inn lodgers) Wiped up some shower water in the bathroom floor - white towel came up filthy. 'Cushion' chair has torn fabric. Only sink is across the room's entry from the bathroom. You can use the toilet and shower privately - all else is on display for everyone's enjoyment. Our bathroom door would not latch unless we threw it's deadbolt - must have been their 'fix'. Paper thin walls had us enjoying our neighbor's sighs, yawns and belches. We found out later that was the highlight as his snoring filled our room. Our bed sloped slightly from left to right, adding to the nighttime pleasure. Our $500/night room doesn't warrant free coffee in the morning, apparently. Our next stay was at the EXCELLENT Wyoming Inn in Jackson WY. We were literally jumping up and down as we walked around the room - a TV! Wi-Fi! Table lamps! Felt like we'd been released from prison. I have no idea who determines how an NPS Lodge is run - Xanterra? Whoever it is should have all the 'management' fired.

We decided to stay in the park a bit late for a reservation. The only rooms were the "dorm" rooms with the bath in the hallway. We ended up right next door to the bathroom and 30 feet from the lobby, which was amazingly convenient. We wanted to spend most of our time in the lobby and vicinity. It worked out great. The live music in the lobby, the buffet dining, everything was convenient, staff were exceptionally polite, and all went smoothly. We were able to visit the geyser fields after breakfast before the crowds arrived.

They are clearly not client-oriented. Staff is super friendly and nice, but ir seems management does not really care about their clients. Dinner has been the same for two days in a row. At checkin they asked us if we wanted to have house keeping; we said yes. Our rooms were not done. When making the reservation they never advertised that if you wanted to stay at the original Inn (there is a new building as welll) there are no private bathrooms (meaning inside the rooms). The price per night is way to high, so the only conclusion we arrived at is that since they are your ONLY option if you want to stay inside the park you need to bear a TERRIBLE service at a very very expensive price. IT WAS NOT WORTH IT.

The hotel lobby is beautiful and historical and the location is very convenient, but it ends there. We paid $500 a night for a room with a filthy bathroom and zero amenities. There is nowhere to grab a quick bite, appetizer or sandwich/salad. When we arrived at 8PM, we walked to another location only to be told that there was an hour wait for a table. We went back to Old Faithful and went to the bar starving. The bartender was kind enough to get us a bag of pretzels from his own stash. Between that and some trail mix that I brought for hiking, we made it through the first night. The next morning we went to the grab and go in the lobby for an overpriced breakfast. We paid well over $20 for two coffees, a muffin and a ham/cheese croissant. (They don't even have a toaster so the only option for the few bagels available is a dirty microwave). The food options for a $500 a night hotel are pathetic. Also, the parking lot is open to the public, not just hotel guests so if you get back late and can't find a spot, you are out of luck. This hotel has a wonderful location and quite a history, it's a shame that they are taking advantage of travelers and providing no services.

What an amazing place to stay. This is our second visit. We stayed in a room in the old house which is wooden log cabin style construction. Do not expect any phone signal or wifi, or television or radio. You really don’t need them though as you’ll be so tired from all your adventures. A downside is that THEY ARE NOT DOING THE ROOM CLEANING during your stay Which may be the reason that I had a mouse 🐭 in my room / as they aren’t vacuuming daily or emptying bins etc the dining room has implemented A BUFFET DINNER which is quite simply rubbish compared to the previous dining experience- you’ll be queuing for ages ! Your dinner will be cold !!! , the food is over salted standard fare , very expensive, no drinks included and no choice of desert. We just got a very ordinary apple dessert plonked in front. The breakfast buffet is better and better value. This is an expensive exclusive hotel and they need to keep standards up please.

The Old Faithfull Inn is an architectural wonder. The room I was in was on the west wing. It was on the back side of the building looking at a service area. The room and windows are in need of a serious update. The bathroom shower was hard to adjust the water temperature .The room was hot and it did have a small fan. It could use a ceiling fan. At around 5:30AM garbage truck woke me up empting the dumpsters. We also had a mouse that run in and out of the room. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give the room a 2. If you wanted to eat the Old Faithful Inn Bear Paw Deli was great, but the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room Dinner Buffet was expensive and we did not go. We would not stay again.

This is an amazing place. We were able to book one night as a splurge (around $400) and the room was small, like a European pension. However, the room was spotless, the bed incredibly comfortable, and the sheets ironed and starched!!!! It's worth it to explore the hotel, and sit out on the 2nd story veranda to watch the geysers. I would probably not use it as a home base in Yellowstone because of the cost and the crowd, but a one night splurge was completely worth it. Be aware - no wifi and no air conditioning. It's usually possible to get last minute bookings on Expedia or even the day of, although the choice may not be large.
