Detailed Reviews
This hotel is such a treasure! After reading the negative reviews for the chain hotels in Hot Springs, we thought we would have to travel further to find a safe clean place to stay. We thought we would give The Hills Inn a shot before leaving town, and are so glad we did!!! The owner is very nice and welcoming. He has family in the military and offers a military discount to active duty and retired veterans. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our room had a large recliner that was very comfy, and the bed mattress was firm enough for me, yet soft enough for my husband, and seemed new. The room also had a microwave, fridge, and hair dryer. We didn’t use the heated pool, but saw several families swimming who seemed to really enjoy it. We also didn’t have time to take in a game of mini golf, but again, it looked like it would be fun. There is a lovely bubbling creek right by the motel that has a paved trail beside it, and several places to eat close by (We highly recommend The Smoking Mexican!). This motel is retro enough to bring back fond childhood memories, but updated enough to provide modern amenities. All in all, it was a wonderful stay, and we will be staying here again anytime we are passing through Hot Springs.

Perfect motel style accommodation , clean, cool and functional. Comfy bed , decent shower. If only they had cotton bedding....Adequate help yerself Brecky, friendly team running the place. Pool area spotless, whole motel very well maintained Great location, walkable to town along pretty river trail and Mammoths just a 40 minute pleasant stroll away.

This is a motel-style hotel. We were able to park right in front of the room which was appreciated because we were traveling with a lot of luggage and I didn’t have to fight my way through two or three sets of locked doors to get our stuff from the car to the room and back. The room was very comfortable with microwave and refrigerator and a nice easy chair. Breakfast wasn’t as elaborate as at the big corporate hotels but was very adequate. The gentleman I dealt with in the office was extremely personable and helpful. All in all, it was a top rate experience.

The Hills Inn in Hot Springs is a basic motel within short walking distance to downtown shops. Do not expect any luxuries here; the rooms are very simple. There bed was fine, but the furniture is dated and the bathroom could use a upgrade. The proprietor is friendly and a continental breakfast is included in cramped space in the hotel office. If you have never been to the Black Hills before, don't expect fancy hotels. Most of the accommodations are similar to the Hills Inn - i.e., basic accommodations are the norm. Travelers to Hot Springs in 2024 should be aware that the downtown area is being turned upside down due to construction, thus it is very difficult to get around. If possible, avoid downtown at all costs or leave early in the day to get around the traffic lights.

Family owned older motel. Great service, the manager (I assume was the owner) made a great effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The motel has an outdoor pool which he offered to "open" (it was covered) if we wanted to use it. He also offered to open the mini-golf course next door so we could play (complimentary). Breakfast was available and was better than expected. The room was of average size with a queen bed (king was available at a slightly higher price). Microwave, fridge, coffee maker in the room. Wi-Fi available and it worked fine for me. Larger than average TV and a recliner chair in the room. Everything was clean and in working order.
The room does show its age. Some traffic noise during the day, but quite at night.
This is a good value. Not fancy, but we got a good night sleep.

What a great place to stay! Much more than just a small town motel, but a wonderfully relaxing small town experience! Wally is the owner of Hills Inn and he couldn't have been kinder, more interested in our story, and was very helpful with area referrals! Then there's the rooms - clean, clean, clean!! We were the first guests for the season on one of their brand new Denver Mattress Co. beds and pillows, and then there's the luxuriously soft bamboo bed linens. This time of year the weather was both still a bit wintery chilly and moving into summer's higher temps. The thermostatically controlled heat/AC unit in the room worked quietly and beautifully. We slept so well all three nights we stayed. This is the place to stay in Hot Springs, SD, but remember to say HI from Scott and Anita from CO, and leave a room open for us!!!

We had such a wonderful stay here. Everything we needed as a family was here (pool, miniature golf, laundry) and the owner Wally was extremely friendly, helpful, and responsive. It was the perfect place location wise for exploring a number of places we wanted to see. We saw many wonderful things and would gladly come back here.

Stayed 2-nights on our hiking trek on the Mickelson Trail. Very comfy beds and bedding, on-site laundry, extremely clean and quiet. Our balcony room looked out at a Black Hills pine-covered hill, and benches for reading, resting, contemplation were outside rooms. Wally was welcoming, an excellent resource, and helpful.

After visiting Wind Cave National Park we were looking for a place to stay before driving into Wyoming the next day and the Hills Inn in Hot Springs looked like a fun place. When we arrived the first thing we did was play a round of mini-golf, which is located next to the motel and included in the price of a room, and my daughter loved it. We didn't have time to take a dip in the pool, but the room we stayed in was clean and quiet and we had a good night's sleep.

This is clean but aging $60 a night property charging $120 because it is peak season. This is a good value compared to nearby hotels that are charging far more but this is pure Motel 6, with mini golf. The rooms are tiny. The bed was good. The parking spaces are tight, particularly for larger vehicles. The breakfast in a paper bag was not impressive. If you have to stay in Hot Springs, this is likely the best deal but go in with modest expectations.
