There hasn’t been as much riverboat excitement on the Mississippi River since the nineteenth century, when these waters were crowded with these picturesque vessels. Ameristar’s 70,000 square-foot riverboat casino has brought nonstop action to Vicksburg, including almost 1,000 of the latest and most popular slot machines, 24 table games across two floors, a five-table poker room and variety of exquisite dining options.

Viewing the might Mississippi River was the main goal and a overnight stay and trip to the casino was down the list. First the hotel. Although pretty dated the rooms were in pretty decent shape even with Goodwill furniture. There is no complimentary breakfast although they do have free coffee and a vending machine. There is very little competition in the area so you have to be thankful for such small blessings. There is no hotel bar and no one to help with luggage. Truly a self help hotel only rates as decent because the front desk ladies were courteous.

The casino is well equipped with slots and table play. Unlike most casino's folks bringing drinks around are scare as hen's teeth. Go down stairs to the sports bar with the huge TV and then you can feel valued as a customer. Since we arrived a little late in the day we thought we would eat at the casino. Bad move. The buffett/dining room closed at 8 AM and by 730PM they had began removing all food products. What we did see made us thankful for small favors and we settled for a vending machine extravaganza.

To summarize if you are a local go there and enjoy the best the area has to offer. If you are travelling from the outside area, cross the Mississippi River take a few pics and keep travelling to better hotels and much better casino's.

Very friendly polite employees.
Room clean and comfy. Outside clean and
Well lighted. Lots of parking.
The casino is ACROSS the street and
not really walkable(for older folks) due to
steep incline. But the shuttle is extremely
prompt and driver congenial.
Hope to visit again!
(There is a resort fee that includes a 5.00
Per day food credit to be used for food at the
casino. )

Albeit, the shuttle ran every 15 minutes, a quick dash to the room to drop off a dessert and come back takes over 45 minutes...that in itself would make me think twice. The hotel itself was clean, well appointed and well ventilated. Staff and shuttle drivers were always courteous.

We stopped on a recent roadtrip at the Ameristar Hotel in Vicksburg, MS. We like visiting casinos, and had stayed at other Ameristar properties including the newer venue in Black Hawk, Colorado. The lobby is nice, and the people were generally friendly.

But the hotel room was in desperate need of a deep cleaning. The carpet had not been vacuumed nor had furniture been dusted in a very long time. There was a medicine dispenser cap on the floor in the bathroom, and the tile floor was stained and sticky. We generally wear flip flops in hotel rooms, and make sure we don't set our suitcases on the floor. We were tired and decided to put up with it.

But the final shock was getting into bed and noticing stains, probably blood, on the white comforter. We immediately checked the rest of the bedding to make sure it was clean, then re-arranged sheets to avoid contact with the comforter.

I don't normally post negative reviews, but felt something needed to be said in this case. I would advise people to look elsewhere in Vicksburg for lodging until this situation is remedied.

Booked one night through a third party reservation site as the last minute rates were good. We had inadvertently selected a smoking room and the front desk staff were VERY accommodating to move us to a non smoking room/floor. Although there was still a light scent on smoke in the room. The bed was comfortable but the pillows a little firmer than we like. The corners of the bathroom were not very clean which was a put off. The actual casino is located across the street and down a hill from the hotel which was not at all convenient since they could not transport due to Covid. Has we known this issue we would have stayed elsewhere. We moved to a different casino our second night in Vicksburg.

The penny machines take in lots of money with hardly any descent bonuses and the promotional offers received are extremely a slow in the face of no appreciation for being a guest. I have never received more than $20 in promotions after losing thousands of dollars. My mom who only visits once every other month and I receive the same $10 when I visits several times a month a lose thousands of dollars. It’s awful and most of the host are rude and gates to understand or address complaints.

Bella's food is good but the menu is very limited. The hotel does not let you check in any earlier than the stated time which is 4 pm. In the old days when a room was ready I would get a call letting me know I could check in early sometimes that could be as early as noon. Not anymore! I guess all good things must come to an end! Things are totally different at the hotel. Whole new staff there at the hotel! I hope they lighten up a little bit because it does not make for a nice stay when you don't have friendly people working there.

Love this place! I always enjoy myself when I’m there. They are always cleaning and making sure our safety is of the highest concern. The slot techs are pretty quick when there is an issue and the definitely place a great variety of music.

Booked through a 3rd party. Paid 164.00 a night because I had 3 adults in the room. $11.00 of the charge was from the Hotel themselves because I did book through a 3rd party! The pool was closed. The exercise room was closed. The 1 pot of coffee they put out at 7am was cold by 8am. The room was dirty....carpet was dirty, clumps of hair in the corners of the room. Floor was sticky....shoes stuck to it when you walked across . Staff was unfriendly. When I asked for 'help' was told to wait for a supervisor. Never could find the 'supervisor' therefore, my problem was never solved. Will never stay here again.

Lousy service, restaurant service virtually non-existent, Poker Room staffed by idiots, Sports Book room full of smoke and dirty ash-trays....

The Poker room was almost as bad as the SportsBook. Only two tables open..from 5 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Non-working t.v.'s no comp.'s or special discounts on rooms for extended play Poker patrons.

Try Gold Strike in Tunica for a Five Star experience!
