We stayed three nights in one of the carriage house rooms next to the driveway and not in the main house. The reason I chose a carriage house room was that there were no stairs to climb when bringing our luggage in and out. The room was charming and while small, it had excellent use of space. There was a bench seat just inside the door for bags with hooks on the wall. A comfortable easy chair was tucked into a small reading nook with a handy lamp. The queen-sized bed was comfortable, if a little challenging to get into due to its elevation off the floor. The restaurant provided us tasty breakfasts in a beautiful garden room. We had an excellent dinner there our first night in and were impressed with the small but varied wine list. As noted by other reviewers, parking can be tight; our last night we had to park on the street. Overall we had a great visit at Anchuca.

Thank you for your support! We are elated that you enjoyed your experience here with us. If you are ever interested in staying in the main house but are not sure of the stairs our front desk is always more than happy to help with luggage! Our carriage house although not a part of the main house has every accommodation that our other rooms offer with less stairs and are pet friendly as well. As for parking, we do have limited spaces but offer street parking that is under camera surveillance. Again, thank you for your review and we hope to see you again!

Magnificent! If you’ll imagine a mansion anywhere to call your own, catering to your every whim with service and comfort come to Anchuca and let Lisa pamper you. The present day owner’s family have called Vicksburg home for six generations. The essence of the local area oozes from his pores. He graciously opens his families most proud possession to travelers much as his fore-bearers would have in days gone buy. The grounds are a collection of generations of plantings, walkways seem almost ancient and mystical. A fountain and a pool contribute to the ambience of the gardens. In the dinning room Bailey and Mikala provide you with the attention given part of the family and anticipate every need. The dishes are Anchucas own unique and wonderful creations presented in an unhurried atmosphere of comfort. Try Bailey’s unique spin on the Old Fashion, I savored it. The rooms are 19th century with modern bathrooms. Lying in bed you can imagine the delicate living of days gone by. Vicksburg has a lot of positive energy along the waterfront along the Mississippi River. Small shops carry a wide variety of unique and interesting wares and there are several museums dedicated to the history and culture of the area. Traveling from west of the Mississippi to Florida or farther east you’ll find this city of under 30,000 a hidden gym and the donut shop heading east has primo fresh regular old donuts at a reasonable price.

This is a beautiful, majestic inn. I gave this inn a 5 because the owner, Tom, has the main house set up with artifacts and reading materials. We spent some time going through it all. Tom was very friendly and knowledgable. I wish we could have returned to the living room the second night but the door was locked. Next time I hope I can stay in the main house (we were in the quarters).
The amenities and linens were just average.
Coffee was really good. Breakfast was eggs and cheese grits both mornings (would have liked something different on the second morning). Both days it was hot and delicious. Service was excellent.
We ate dinner here and it was amazing! I had catfish and my companion had shrimp and grits. Sure do wish there was an Anchuca restaurant here in central Florida. The only thing I would change would be to blot some of the butter off the catfish before plating it.
I would stay here again if I could get a room in the main house.

This inn was a delight. We had two rooms in the carriage house. They were beautifully decorated and had every convenience that you might want to have. everything had been thought of, from a refrigerator to comfy bed and pillows to a cozy chair with ottoman to a desk and they even filled your ice pocket and put it in your refrigerator for you. There were no steps at all, which was helpful for me and it was easy to park and unload your luggage. You could go into the main house for thedining rooms. The food was delicious. We ate both breakfast and dinner there. The service was excellent. The cleanliness was top-notch and we really truly enjoyed our stay. I would come back here in a snap. It is located near all kinds of wonderful things to do and restaurants and Activities

We stayed in one of the Carriage House rooms (Jennie's room) which was very comfortable and very easy to access with luggage. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The house is very beautiful and had a comfortable front porch where we enjoyed sitting listening the sounds of summer. If you enjoy relaxing by a pool, this is a great one with comfortable chairs on the pool deck. It was hard to distinguish the steps into the pool so be aware there are four steps down/up.
At breakfast, once again the staff proved they were not only friendly but very professional. Our breakfast consisted of an orange muffin, grits (not a grits fan but these were great), eggs, bacon and fresh fruit.
Our stay included a video with the history of the house and a tour.

We had a lovely one night stay at Anchuca Mansion Inn. We were given a warm welcome at check-in and told everything we needed to know. We were in 'Ellen's Room' which was across the drive way in the converted carriage house. It's a relatively small room with antique furnishings and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of amenities for a short stay. In the morning the breakfast was plated and bought to our table, whether you chose to eat it or not, which we found unusual. It was however lovely with fluffy pancakes, fresh fruit, bacon and those famous American grits (which im sorry but I cant bring myself to enjoy). The pool outside looked beautiful, however the weather was not on our side and so after, by chance, meeting the owner and congratulating her on her tasty homemade cakes we made our way.

Good pool area. However, a slightly surreal place to stay if you book one of the more expensive rooms. We had a bedroom in the main house which was very dimly lit and formed part of the “museum” insofar that it was on display with a rope barrier across its entrance until we moved in. We would have given four stars save for the fact that breakfast was not as good as you would expect for a decent B&B establishment. No juice was offered and the plate of food arrived lukewarm from the kitchen. As we were finishing the meal, an advertising film for the building started to be played in the restaurant- again, not what we would expect. All the guests seemed to leave very quickly after breakfast. Either make it a museum or a B&B but not both at the expense of guests’ comfort.

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to stay at Anchuca! As a "AAA Inspected-Clean Property" we take many precautions to ensure that our rooms are as clean as possible for our guests upon arrival! This includes our main house rooms having a velvet rope barrier blocking access to the space to prevent tour guests from entering the space while visiting the property. Anchuca is proud to be Vicksburg's first home of historic significance to open its doors for tours! We've been operating as a tour home since 1955 and have welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world since that time, as advertised on our website. Our extensive collection of pre and post civil war artifacts in our downstairs parlors that are original to the property are on display for our guests and tourists who choose to explore them. As for breakfast, we offer a fully complementary breakfast with juice included by request! The video that you have referenced is a 10-minute orientation film that details the history of the house prior to your embarking on your self guided tour, as advertised on our website. We hope you will come back again and enjoy one of Vicksburg's most cherished and historically significant landmarks!

The basket of snacks and mini fridge with bar and nonalcoholic beverages available for purchase in Room 7 were wonderful to have upon our arrival. The bed was so comfortable, and the sheets were extremely soft. Don't pass up the complimentary breakfast! Our plate of cheese grits, scrambled eggs, fruit, and bacon were delicious, and the cinnamon coffee is now a regular part of my mornings at home. The grounds were fun to explore. The home's decor is beautiful and its history fascinating. My next trip to Anchuca will involve taking advantage of the pool.

Despite the many positive reviews I have to strongly disagree. We were in room 2 which is just above the reception and the restaurant. We could hear everything that was said in the reception. In addition the heating in the room was intermittently very noisy. This combined with a very soft mattress made sleep very difficult.
It’s the first place we ever stayed that had the coffee maker in the toilet/bathroom.

Thank you for your feedback. Since this review was posted, we have installed a new air conditioning unit for room 2. Guests consistently tell us that it is the best HVAC system they've ever experienced at a B&B. We hope you will visit again soon and thank you for helping to bring this to our attention!

Lisa and Bailey (?) Are extremely nice and couldn’t be more helpful. Food was delicious. Location is very convenient short walk (.3 miles) to downtown and the river. Note that there is a spotlight outside of the annex rooms. Our room (#6) was way too light overnight and we had to rig up a makeshift curtain for the second night. If you have a large vehicle, you’re better off parking on the street. The parking lot is VERY tight.

Thank you for your feedback -- we have since moved the spotlight from the wall directly outside of room 6 to a location where it will not shine into the window. For guest safety and convenience, we've installed downlights on our porches that illuminate the walkway and turn off around 10 p.m. We hope to see you again soon and thank you for bringing this to our attention!
