This place did not leave me with an overall positive impression of Hawaii. While I didn’t expect a luxury experience per se, I certainly didn’t expect something to the equivalent of a rundown Days Inn or worse. Where do I even start? First the positives: Friendly staff, Relatively clean room (only found a couple of strings of hair which would normally be unacceptable, but not too surprising for this place). Nice view of the canal across the street from my room. Comfortable room temperature. Good water pressure and temperature from the shower. Ample towels and wash cloths were provided. Lots of cable channels available although the TV Guide channel doesn’t really work and the remote is set up oddly such that you can’t go directly to channels. Bed could have been a bit firmer but was comfortable enough. Hotel is in a good location in that it’s walking distance to the main tourist strip. Now the rest: The hotel and room are so outdated! The room was so dark I had to request another lamp (there was only one in the whole room) just to see the other half of the room. NO CHARGING OUTLETS! In 2022, none! Only two functional electrical outlets in the room (the other didn’t work), neither conveniently located. The lamp on the nightstand took up about 75% of the nightstand so storage was limited. No soap dish in the shower. There is a refrigerator but no microwave. The refrigerator had a foul smell. No iron or ironing board in the room; only available upon request which is odd for a “resort.” The outside rail and patio furniture was peeling and old and grimy such that I didn’t want to touch it. The restaurant that seems to have been located at the hotel at one time is no longer in operation. I didn’t see any mention of a gym; I assume that too was inoperable. The floors in the elevators and hallway were under construction. Finally, there’s a $40/ day parking fee. A ripoff. Also, valet is required, which I find somewhat problematic during a pandemic in which you should minimize unnecessary people in your personal space. I don’t understand how this place can advertise as a 3-star resort or why the reviews are so inflated. If you are simply looking for the basics on your trip—room and board, fine. But if you are looking for a quality hotel experience, this place falls way short.

We love the views and location of this hotel . The staff was friendly and welcoming. It’s close to all the Waikiki activities. The hotel is doing renovations so there is some construction noise and construction staff. We had a great time during our stay . Only slightly inconvenienced with renovations Noise .

I just finished my 6 night stay at the Waikiki Sand Villa hotel. Overall was a very pleasant stay. The staff were very courteous, friendly, helpful, and really gave the Aloha hospitality. The hotel itself is a bit outdated, however they are going through a remodel.y one and oy complaint is how thin the walls are...and I mean THIN. As a solo traveler (or even with friends), I'd recommend this place based on staff, location, and price. Mahalo Waikiki Sand Villa and aloha

Not sure what to make of this hotel. We had a view of the Ala Wai Canal which was lovely but also very noisy with traffic, emergency vehicles with sirens, people yelling, cars blaring music, etc. Our room was clean, but very small & basic. Barely any room to open your suitcase. It seems to have been freshened up fairly recently, but they kept some retro items like the original dingy mirror in the bathroom, which, I might add, is the only mirror in the whole room! Kind of hard for two people to get ready a the same time. There wasn't even so much as a picture on the wall to add any character to the bland room. They also kept the old smoke detector cover, all yellowed and dingy. Anyway, at least there was a older mini fridge so that was a plus. We had no headboards, so we had to prop up our pillows against the wall to sit up in bed & watch TV, which was tiny and we never could figure out how to scroll through the on-screen guide to select a channel. One table side lamp for the whole room! No ceiling light. It would have been nice to have some sort of shelf over the closet hanger rod. And the safe! They actually give you a KEY that you lock the safe with, and then you have to cart it around with you everywhere and hope you don't lose it! Not that the front desk bothered to tell us this when we checked in. We had to tromp back downstairs after calling the front desk to find out what the deal was. I have never stayed someplace where they had housekeeping only every third day! We were always calling down to the front desk for basics such as towels, toilet paper & fresh paper cups & then tipping each and every time for basic necessities. I understand not doing laundry daily but I really don't want to do housework on my vacation! Garbage & recycle piling up in the room for days on end. We think we only had housekeeping one day of our week. The day before we checked out, housekeeping knocked on the door. We were going to the beach and said we'd be out in 10 minutes. Out in the hall we then saw housekeeping & the lady asked if we were leaving. We said yes but just to the beach. We check out tomorrow. Guess what? When we got back a few hours later, no housekeeping service. It's like they thought why bother when they are checking out tomorrow. It seems they are currently doing renos but we were not made aware of this in advance. The restaurant/bar seems to have been closed for a long time and we noticed one day, old couches or beds being stored in there & it seems to be the break room for the workers. A couple days they shut down the air-con due to the work & we heard construction racket early a couple mornings too. That said, the pool area was nice but could be spruced up. Maybe they will attend to that. Seems there used to be a little restaurant down there at one time. The bathrooms at the pool were kind of gross. The lobby is really dated and needs a good makeover. The hotel provides beach chairs & umbrellas & towels. However, the chairs are more like camping chairs so, not too comfortable for the beach and the umbrellas must have been purchased from the ABC store, so not the best quality, however, better than nothing. They were not too strict with the towels so you can take those to the beach or pool at free will and just drop them into the laundry bin in the lobby when you return. The staff were all nice & one of them lent us beach chairs that his brother had left behind from a previous visit which he didn't have to do and that was a bonus. They can make change for you at the front desk. They even have extra masks if you forget yours. All in all, I don't usually have complaints but if you were to book here, I'd have to say-lower your expectations....a lot.... and then you will be fine.

Let me start with the staff. All very friendly and helpful but to be honest they don’t have much to work with. The day before we were to check in they called and said the type of room we booked they were out of. This made are stay much more uncomfortable. Our 15-year-old daughter had to sleep on a rollaway because of this and it look like it came from the 1980s. The room was small and the recently updated the renovation was not done well at all. The TV is extremely small maybe 20 inches. No shelving in the room, the balcony had rusty furniture on it and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The bathroom was very small no place for a hand towel or a soap dish. Though there was a recent renovation the mirror was very old in the whole room was not very well thought out at all. When we complained about the rollaway bed in the size of the room the solution was to put some blankets underneath the mattress of the rollaway bed. They did absolutely nothing to make things right for not having our room. The hallway was lined with cardboard because of the renovation. The valet service was excellent though expensive. The pool area is nice but noisy. I would not book here again simply because There is no attention to detail or making things right.

If you come from a big city maybe all the traffic noise won’t bother you. Hotel is located on an intersection so it is noise all day and night, not to mention it is a major artery for EMS to get into Waikiki. If you love the sound of sirens through out your stay pretty much hourly this is your place. If they could somehow engineer a way to cut half the noise out this would be a great place to stay. They are doing some remodeling and refreshing of rooms. This will not interfere with your stay. In my room the curtains need replacement. They are old and stained. I was on the 10th floor. Bathroom is quite small. Little room on sink to keep your toiletries. The room had a nice refrigerator and in room coffee. The pool was very nice. I would dare say the nicest pool area in Waikiki. Pool and lanai furniture need updating or serious cleaning. The staff were great!! I had great view of the canal, golf course, and view of the mountains. It is around a three and half block walk to beach or main drag of Waikiki. Multiple restaurants within a block walk to choose from. With all said ,would I stay here again? Yes, it is a fine hotel but I would ask for a room towards the ocean end of building(south end) away from the intersection end for less traffic noise.

We chose this hotel because the photos looked appealing but were disappointed at the hotel as the photos resembled little on what the hotel had to offer. The website showed that it had a restaurant but it appears that it's been closed for months. It advertised a gym but it was not operating. Half the hotel was being renovated and the noise was terrible as well as the dust created by the workmen. I had to complain each night to switch off the " blowers in the rooms " which were operating all night and prevented us from sleeping. the rooms were hardly serviced and we had to ask for fresh towels regularly. It was barely a 3 star hotel and would not stay here again if they offered the room to me for nothing.

Enjoyable stay. Overall a great value - good price. Easy check in. Good location, room and balcony had a view of the Ala Wai canal and golf course. Large ABC store 4 minutes down the street. Pool. Many restaurants and shops within a short walk. However, the beds were too soft. Good Fridge. Tub had a hand held shower device. Pretty quiet. Resort fee. Easy walk to beach and International Market Place.

The hotel is very comfortable, since we arrived we felt very welcome and the parking was super fast. I also wanted to say that the hotel staff are very good to the guests they stay and make sure their stay is perfect. For me and my partner we loved the pool area, the hot jacuzzi and the breakfasts are delicious. The area such a cool area close to everything in the city. I would definitely go back to the hotel to stay in Honolulu. 100% recommended. Thank you for the hospitality my review in total 10/10 ❤️

Almost two years to the day since my last visit, I stepped back into the open air lobby of the Sand Villa. During my absence, the hotel had changed ownership and had undergone renovations, so I was wondering what awaited me. I had my usual room with a canal view towards the east, where I could watch the sunrise each morning from my lanai. And hear the local roosters announce the new day as well (which, to me, is Hawaii). I could see new improvements here and there in the hotel: floors, paint jobs, furniture all had a bright new finish to them. My room had a mini fridge and a coffee maker, a tv and all the usual trappings. I especially liked the Waikiki themed print on the wall. The restaurant of my past visits had changed. There was no more free buffet at breakfast (which I enjoyed, as it was a mix of Japanese and western cuisine) but you could order food at breakfast now. The wonderful La Vela Wine Bar is still doing business, too. The pool area is still comfortable and relaxing. Free bath towels are now available. The fitness center is operational as well. One's Car Rentals, who I rented with my stay, is still doing good business. The staff was wonderfully welcoming and catered to my every need. Special mahalo to the front office crew who assisted a wahine in dire need! A mix of visitors were staying: some international folk from Europe, a few intrepid Japanese, families, and locals on staycation. As things continue to open, I'm sure the bustling past of this great hotel will be back again! I hope to return next year.
