This hotel is really amazing, very beautiful structure, and conveniently located right on the main strip in Waikiki. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, and Waikiki Beach. We love it. Highly recommended!
We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and it always leaves us fulfilled. The staff is friendly, there is a dedicated Elite check-in line, and the rooms are modern. If you ever have a problem or request such as missed housekeeping or extra towels or a wakeup call, the front desk is always happy to assist. Every staff member seems genuinely pleased to be of service and after several nights in a stay it begins to feel like home, because of how welcoming everyone is. The hotel is centrally located to enjoy, or to get to, anything you would want to enjoy. Want to stay in downtown Waikiki and enjoy the food, beach, and nightlife? You are literally in the heart of it! Want to rent a car and explore the island? Literally across the street are several rental car companies and there are dozens or private (e.g. Turo) locations nearby. The little things you don't notice in a hotel until they aren't there -- are one of those perks here. Conveniently placed towel hooks? ✓ Modern elevators? ✓ Friendly staff members ✓ Well appointed rooms, suites, and washrooms? ✓ This property also has excellent elite recognition, even going above and beyond for repeat guests. If you were only going to visit Oahu once, this is the place to stay. If you were to plan to come back in the future, this is again the only place to stay. p.s. Walk down the beach to the Mai Tai Bar for a world famous and refreshing drink. :)…
Another wonderful trip to Moana Surfrider during covid! I came here in October with my twin boys and fell in love with this hotel and returned for our family Christmas vacation. The location and the hotel is amazing but its the staff and service of this hotel we appreciated and decided to return. A big thanks to Joy at the front desk, who greeted us with a warm smile and kindness in October and during this trip. She always made us feel very welcome. Secondly, we would like to thank Nancy at the cafe. We would get breakfast every morning from Nancy, who would always have a smile on her face, converse with us, and was very friendly. She was always working hard with kindness. Next, Gloria at the beach and pool desk was so kind to us every day. Whenever my boys would come back from surfing, she would ask them how it was and how much fun they had. She would give us towels and chairs at the pool and was very helpful and friendly even when it was raining. After these two visits we feel like a part of the Moana surfrider family. Thank you to management and all the staff who made us feel so special. For those who have been complaining about the members lounge and small things, I am very disappointed!! I am a titanium member and realize that this is not the norm for us ALL!! Visitors or the hotel!! We have to appreciate that we can visit this beautiful place because of the staff at this hotel is here during Covid times. A great thank you to all at MOANA SURFRIDER. …
I do love this cozy hotel for its comfort, great outdoor seating area, and of course it’s beach. Not sure what happened to its management during this pandemic times but it seems they don’t care about anything or just hate their workplace. Let’s start from the moment of arrival . Not too long ago, let’s just take 2019, you would receive warm welcome from the staff and flowers around your neck, staff would show you a reception desk and asks if you need help with your luggage ( that what I remembered). This winter, 2020, taxi pulls to the front and no one welcomes you, no one offers anything, lonely you drag towards the reception desk where ladies in a thick masks behind plastic screen ( really hard to hear) hang you piece of paper which explains basic hotel information and off you go to your room. They did put nice Christmas tree but that was it. Grand piano put away next to the stairs, and silence... common, people try to escape depression, frustration and all bad staff that happened during COVID and don’t need to add more depressiveness to it. Is it hard to play a music in a hall? Is it hard to say “ welcome “ ? Or offer some small treats to newly arrived guests? A lot of possibilities to welcome customers. Moving on. A few words about rooms and housekeeping. The room was big, had lovely view of ocean, and offered basics, I mean like any motel you drive by, you get cheap 3 bags of tea, coffee, 2 bottle of water, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and pretty much that is. No more white sleepers, gowns, small hygienic staff, any welcome touch and etc. I hang the sign “ do not disturb” and left, when I came back I found that somebody had been in my room cause bathroom mat was folded and items moved but bed left untouched ( still was in a mess). I am not sure what housekeeping was doing if room remained unkept. The other time I had to use a hinge on the door. So, I am in the bathroom and hear like someone try to open the door. I ran in a hurry from the bathroom covered in a towels yelling that I don’t need anything and... it didn’t help. The person made her way through!! Walked to the phone to call to say something while I am naked in a towel stayed right next to her. That is NOT ok. All other times when I needed fresh towels or water, staff responded great. Personally, I haven’t had a chance to see how staff sanitizes the hotel around, I just frequently saw floor swiping. I greatly doubt that elevators cleaned on daily bases as floor mat ( no matter which elevator) was full of sand throughout my stay. About food I can only say “ outch”. I don’t mind to pay for a good professionally cooked food, but to leave around $26 just for for average flat pancakes covered with a very few bits of random fruits that is not ok for me. The staff who serve my table had been outstanding. So, be prepared to spend some good money for a food. Also, you need to spend a time to find a good places where you can get food that meets your budget and do good to your stomach. Now about the beach. See, usually you see a lot of people with a class in a such place. I am not trying to judge but I am very sensitive when it comes to manners and general well managed behavior. First 2 days on the beach left me speechless initially, and later very angry. Lots of smokers who left cigarette butts all over the beach, food leftovers, plastic tops, and.. twice I saw chunks of poop, yes a poop not a baby one, and once large women hygienic used pad was rolling by the wind. Disgusting!!!!! You might say, oh, rough times for everyone, hotel has no staff. I understand, but seeing 2 people standing next to the table to give towels make me think that they could spend 20 min to rake the beach in the morning with no problems. As that “ smoking and always hungry” crowd disappeared, the beach got a bit better. Ocean as always very beautiful, and makes you forget all the things I wrote about above. Perhaps, you won’t see the things I saw, or get into situations I did. I still love this unique hotel, and I do hope for a new management to come and bring to this lovely hotel a whole new level of care and “ life” back to it.…
Hotel is right on the beach and is historic. We were in the newer tower and had an amazing ocean view. However rooms were surprisingly basic and worn. Wall had a piece of patched wall paper and bathroom small with open closet inside. Not a good value for $500 nt plus resort fee plus parking. Service was very good and everyone friendly. Only dining bc of COVID was at the pool and very expensive with regards to what you get. Would probably not stay again.
