The Aston Waikiki Sunset garners praise for its amiable staff and enviable location, just a stone's throw from the beach and Waikiki's vibrant attractions. While the panoramic ocean views and full kitchens in the rooms are highlights for many guests, critiques often point to the need for modernization and improved cleanliness.
The hotel's amenities, including the pool, are well-received, although the outdated facilities and inconsistent service sometimes mar the experience. Opinions on value are mixed, with some guests questioning the balance between cost and quality.

We booked this hotel through Air Canada Vacations, in part due to the fact the rooms had a full kitchen, and also it was a price point that was affordable. Check-in on our evening of arrival, around 11PM was efficient and super friendly owing to the desk clerk, Tori. She went out of her way to not only welcome, us but to arrange for a room upgrade to a higher floor with more of an ocean view.
The room was clean and tidy. The kitchen had a full size stove and fridge and enough plates and cutlery etc., to allow for basic in-room cooking an dining on the peninsula. The balcony had room for 2 patio chairs and a small triangular table, but ample enough for afternoon cocktails on the "lanai". The bed and bedding was fine and on a few occasions we had to ask for extra coffee packs but the staff was always very accomodating. We had our room serviced 4 times over 14 days with clean towels and a general tidying up. Garbage disposal is better done on your own at the end of the hall down the garbage chute. Bags are supplied.
Access to the room on the 34th floor at all times during our 2-week stay was not a problem and the wait time for an elevator was always less than 5 minutes, often an elevator was waiting for us at the lobby level. Twice during our stay one elevator was under repairs but this did not seem to be an issue.
The pool area on the 6th floor was OK, and best in the early morning till noon when the sun was focused on the area. The artificial grass area near the BBQ grills was a nice touch and there were plenty of lounge chairs everywhere.
We enjoyed the convenient location, about 3 blocks to the beach and the transit bus stops right on Kuhio Ave nearby. The attached parking garage is not owned by the hotel but rather a separate company and was not terribly cheap at $35US per day (pay at the payment kiosk in the hotel lobby otherwise it is $45 per day). We always found plenty of spaces but be aware that the ceiling height is just around 6 feet so larger vehicles will have an issue.
We took the recommendation of the Bell-Hop Mathew and used Tony's car service to return to the airport on departure day. Mathew was a very friendly face every day when we were leaving or returning and had a few tips on places to eat and things to see and do.
All in all it was a great property to stay at if on a bit of a budget. Conveniently located, friendly staff, and slightly off the main drag make it worth checking out.

This condo is worth the price. If you are staying in Waikiki for a long time, I think it is just right in terms of price and comfort.
The kitchen was very convenient. There was a new kitchen sponge, kitchen detergent, and kitchen paper. There was no saran wrap or seasonings. The BBQ grill was free to use, so we bought steaks at Waikiki Market and had a BBQ. The BBQ grill was located where you could see the Diamond Bed, and it was an open, American, and fun time.
The room is cleaned every 3 days. The sheets were in order, but the bathtub was not cleaned, so I washed it with the sponge I brought with me. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were provided, but they forgot to refill the body soap until the first cleaning. After checking in, there was hair and dust from the previous person in the bathroom. You can get new towels every day if you request them at the front desk, but there was hair on them every time. .
The blanket for the sofa bed smelled damp and was smelly.
The beach is just a few minutes walk away and the Pink Trolley stop is nearby so it was very accessible.

Our first Oahu vacation and we stayed in room 1004 at Waikiki Sunset.
I found that this room was comfortable, easy, family friendly and close to the beach, ABC store, and food.
I was able to make breakfast daily, which allowed me to remain in a food budget, since we were traveling with 4 adults and 1 child. I mainly shopped at Walmart for groceries.
The room had cleaning products, paper towels, 2 rolls of toilet paper, and tide pods.
I requested for an air mattress which was free and comfortable for my young adult daughter.
What I bought from my grocery: rice, eggs, coffee, creamer, 4 gallons of water, bottles of water, pancake mix, syrup, bananas, Portuguese sausages, juice, cleaning spray, paper plates, paper towels and toilet paper. (I did purchase cleaning products since I didn’t know they had some; probably better to settle in the air bnb prior to going to the grocery store).
The walk to Waikiki beach was less than 10 minutes, there was an ABC store in the middle of the walk. This was convenient for treats and snacks, or anything needed immediately.
There are quite a few restaurants and stores in this area, Waikiki Sunset is located at the end of Waikiki, so there is less noise and less traffic.
At the end of the trip, I borrowed a luggage carrier to load my vehicle. We brought back pineapples from Hawaii to California. I highly recommend you do too!
4 out of 5 stars, since they only provided 1 paper towels roll, 2 toilet papers, and 2 dish towels. Otherwise, I was happy in room 1004.

The hotel was a bit outdated but the staff was friendly! HUGE plus was that they had availability for late check out, it was $100 fee (until 5pm) but this meant world to us, since our flight was in the evening and we were with two small kids - this give us opportunity to hangout on the beach our last day! Also big plus is full kitchen - we were able to save few buck on food, by combination of prepping few meals and sometimes eating out as well as they had BBQ's on the 6th floor! Great location - it was only about two minutes short walk to the beach - which was protected (no waves) and great for kids! you will pass by ABC convenience store and we would stop and get cold drinks for the beach. (keep your receipts for free souvenir gift if you collect $100 (in any ABC store, which are on every corner) or if you don't just gift to random person, that's what we did - good feeling...Hotel also had small shop-mart on the 5th floor - they were renting chairs and umbrellas and other beach items for affordable price and they also had food items for reasonable price...Beach towels were included on the 4th floor, nice balcony with mountain view....good pressure for the shower...beds a bit too soft (for me) but nice and clean...overall the price is right for what you get...and friendly service is as if you were in 5stars! We loved it and we recommend it and we would be back!

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review, Predo! We're delighted to hear that our friendly staff and the availability of late check-out made a significant difference for your family. It's great to know that the full kitchen and BBQ facilities on the 6th floor added to your convenience and enjoyment. We're also pleased that you found our location ideal for your beach outings and appreciated the nearby ABC store for refreshments. Your tips about the souvenir gift and the shop-mart on the 5th floor are very helpful for future guests. We stayed here for 7 nights at the end of July/ start of August.
The hotel is excellently positioned, around a 5 minute walk to the beach, 5 minutes to Honolulu Zoo and 20 minutes to the Cheesecake factory and Hard Rock Cafe. There is an ABC (supermarket) around 5 minutes down the road.
Housekeeping comes every 3 days but in our stay they came every 2 days doing a general clean, changing the towels and bedsheets. The apartment was spacious, kitchen came with a fridge, freezer, coffee machine, toaster and oven. There was plenty of space for food storage and a large breakfast bar. Each floor had its own washing machine and dryer for $1.25 each and change could be given at reception. Each floor also had its own bin shoot. It also had an outside pool, changing area, toilets and very clean gas barbecue area. There was a very small gym as well. You were able to get beach towels every day. The hotel also had a small shop with reasonable prices.
Our room had a balcony facing the sea and air conditioning. The bathroom was spacious and came with full sized Hawaiian Tropic shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap. There were two wardrobes and a chest of drawers which was enough storage for 4 people.
It is to bare in mind that the room comes with an additional $30 per day cost which includes a number of things, however we thought that this was very expensive and should really just be included in the price of the room.
The hotel was always very clean and tidy and reception staff were always happy to help. We found that Ubers were the cheapest and most convenient method of transport for us around the island.
Would definitely recommend this hotel for those looking for a room with a kitchen in a great location.

Whole complex is grubby and dated. Facilities were not worth the resort fee of US$35 ( plus two taxes on top) per night. Carpet and paintwork in common areas was grubby and the wait for lifts was unsatisfactory many times with either one or two lifts being blocked off and unavailable for customers. Our apartment was lacking in both facilities and cleanliness (eg food splattered up the side of the fridge left uncleaned, ripped blanket provided for sofa bed). It was difficult to stop the kitchen tap from dripping and initially no plug was provided for the sink so we couldn't wash dishes properly and risked cutlery etc falling down the insinkerator. The can opener was poor quality and difficult to use and there was NO TRAY to use in the oven to put food in (only a shelf with bars) !! We bought garlic bread to heat in the oven and then had nothing to sit it on to cook it !! It would have fallen through the bars and burnt on the bottom of the oven. We also had no shower gel as the pump did not work ( pump was either broken or empty). We pointed these things out, but apart from the plug for the sink being provided, nothing else was fixed. There was also no spare toilet paper provided so we had to quickly request another roll from one of the cleaners when we ran out.
We were also disappointed to find that rather than putting a "hold" of US$100 on our debit card the amount was actually taken from our account and then refunded upon checkout. This meant we have been charged an overseas transaction fee of nearly AU$5 which was unnecessary. Our son also had money taken from his debit card for his key to the gym and then it was refunded later but he also incurred a transaction fee. We stayed at many different hotels during our 4 weeks in the US and each time they put a "hold" on our debit card so that it was "pending" only and then reversed when we left. Each time we did not incur a transaction fee.
Overall we were disappointed in the accommodation and service provided and would not choose to stay again in the future. I could not locate any direct email for the property but have emailed the reservation team for the chain of properties THREE times and have received no reponse.

This is our 4th stay at the Waikiki Sunset, the last stay was about 6 years ago. The hotel is still very nice despite showing its age and the need for some updates. We had two one bedroom ocean view units and they were clean and similarly appointed with nice kitchens where you can cook meals. The staff was very nice and we had quick responses to a couple of maintenance issues. In the past, we thought the elevators were slow, but this time we found them to be ok. There were certain times during the day when there were longer waits for the elevator. The parking garage is independently operated and the parking stalls are tight - would recommend renting smaller vehicles if you can. Overall, this is a nice condo/hotel for families, decent rates, and only a couple of blocks from the beach. If you’re looking for newer upscale accommodations, valet parking, etc. this is not the place.

Took two of our grandkids ( 8 and 10) to Oahu and booked at the Aston Wakiki Sunset for 2 weeks, beside the condo being so close to everything we wanted (zoo, beach, aquarium, international market place and even a Safeway, all within walking distance) I have to comment on the staff. The front desk staff, especially Agathe Demets provided the best of customer service. The security staff has a great sense of humor and housekeeping was certainly on top of their game. Since we did not rent a car, Agathe suggested "TONY'S CAR SERVICES (808-940-8711) and we hit the jackpot. His pricing, knowledge of the island and his vehicles were great. Absolutely recommend if your going to Oahu. The Trice's

The location of the Aston Sunset in Waikiki is fantastic. Being 2 blocks from the beach and close to restaurants and shops was great! The hotel itself is much older than it appears online, and I was disappointed with the room. We had a 2 bedroom with a kitchen, and the rooms were extremely small. There are only 2 small drawers in the main room and only 6 hangers in the small closet. Only 1 person could easily access their suitcase in the closet, and more hangers would definitely have helped. Housekeeping was slow and we had to call a number of times to make sure we could get the sand cleaned up (which is inevitable after being at the beach). There was a need for paint, new lino and carpet for sure, and the pull-out couch had a big stain on the bottom near the carpet, so it felt dirty, even if it had just been cleaned. The fridge worked, but had rust on the outside and the handle had weird chips out of it. I do not need a fancy hotel, and the sheets were clean, we had clean towels, and the air conditioning worked. They were doing some repairs while we were there, and the water to our room was shut off for a few hours. Again, the location is great and you don't spend a lot of time in your room, so it all goes to your personal preference. We truly enjoyed our time in Hawaii and mainly used the room to sleep in.
