Everything was fun. First of all - their mascot is Jack the bulldog - who lives on the second floor. That alone moves them up the ladder of cool. Then, the employees at the desk and throughout the hotel couldn’t be nicer. The decor was just the right about of beach and kitsch. Ian the bartender was a great mixologist/conversationalist, steering you thru myriad cocktails like the Captain of a ship sailing thru a tight passage. The location was totally walkable to all the fashionista and hipster locations on Waikiki but we were just far enough away to not feel crowded. Plus they had at least one person playing live music around the pool almost every night. I would definitely stay there again.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ to the incredible staff who were courteous, helpful, and kind. No questions asked when we requested to store our luggage as we had a late flight home. They were always helpful with suggestions and directions. All staff were truly amazing!

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ for the premises and our room. The hotel is well located and within walking distance to shops and the beach. The Waikiki Trolley is also just around the corner. As it is a smaller hotel, it is not crowded and peaceful during the day. Lawn chairs by the pool are easy to obtain, while the pool itself gives everyone opportunity to swim laps or enjoy a dip.
The view from our room was not the best as it overlooked a shabby building, but it was reasonably quiet.
Some things to consider : 1. as numerous individuals have scent allergies, please remove outdoor deodorizer. It was somewhat overwhelming and unpleasant at times. 2. Clean bathroom walls as we had splatter, also clean bathroom shower area more thoroughly. The glass on the shower hadn’t seen windex in a long time as there were water stains everywhere. 3. Please install a full length mirror in bedroom area.

Overall, had a pleasant stay. Once again, kudos to the staff for their excellent service!

Great location in Waikiki! Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Room was small but comfortable and having a balcony was a great perk but the walls are QUITE thin. The included parking is in a garage that is several blocks away but given how challenging parking in the area seems to be, having any parking available at all is a bonus. Food at the restaurant was delicious (ate there for both breakfast and dinner) though service is quite slow so wouldn't recommend if trying to get out quickly in the morning. The provided shampoo and conditioner was insanely good-my expectation on a beach trip is always that my hair will be damaged and dry by the end but the products they had were phenomenal and you couldn't even tell I was in the saltwater every day!

I really wanted to like this hotel as per all the reviews but unfortunately, I did not have the same experience as most of the guests. I did not feel the warmth and willingness to help from the staff. If anything, they seemed quite indifferent. We asked for recommendations a couple of times and the staff on duty could not come up with much. When we arrived, we were struggling to get our bags our of the car and the staff member just sat there and looked at us and did not offer to help. On many occasions, we would enter or leave the hotel without even a greeting for the exception of Sai. Thank you Sai for your warm welcome. The room was big enough for our family of 4 with plenty of storage. It was though extremely dusty. Not sure when our room was last dusted. We checked the same areas every day and the same dust balls were there .Quite alarming considering we were there for 10 days. The shower recess was disgusting. The glass needed a good clean and the floor inside the shower recess needed a good scrub. Also, quite concerning. It was mentioned to reception and it was cleaned once. The leaking tap on the sink was also mentioned to reception. Someone came up and tightened it but did not fix the leak which made a big mess on the sink every day.
The location of the hotel is fantastic as it is within walking distance from the centre and a short walk to the beach. We ate at the restaurant once and the food was extremely delicious. Hotel management might want to install some soft closing fixtures on its doors as the doors to the rooms slam shut every time someone comes in or goes out. Not enjoyable when you are on holidays and might want the occasional sleep in. Please do something about that strong smell coming out of the bottom toilets. It is intoxicating in a bad way. The lemon water in the lobby was very enjoyable. The $25 per night resort fee (ex tax) is pure highway robbery. The only thing of value to this resort fee is the $10 per night restaurant credit, Everything else that they are offering for the $25, would be offered for free at other hotels. Overall, we were left disappointed.

Response from thesurfjack, General Manager at The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club
Responded Jul 2, 2020
Mahalo Marie for your review. During this pandemic we have had the opportunity to get into most of the rooms for maintenance and look at the issues you mentioned. I will share with the staff your experience of the front of the house staff not paying attention. I don't like to hear that because service is a #1 attribute of the Surfjack. We appreciate your feedback so we can better ourselves as we come from this RESET unknown season of COVID-19. Thank you again for sharing. ALOHA! Lynette Eastman General Manager THE SURFJACK

I chose the Surfjack because I love mid century modern architecture and decor! Honolulu can be one of the best places in the world to see that old blue Hawaii feeling! The Surfjack did not disappoint in anyway. The staff were lovely the swimming pool fantastic the whole look and feel of the place is exactly what I was expecting! Be sure to rent the free bicycles and also take the mid century modern walking tour it is self guided but the map is great. This hotel is right in the mix of things downtown you were just a few minutes walk from Waikiki Beach! There is lots of great shopping and good food locations nearby. They also provide some great recommendations in the booklet in your room. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I wish the valet parking was explained better on the website that was a bit of a surprise. I think $35 a night for people who are staying there is a little steep. Loved the morning coffee and the café. We also really enjoyed the breakfast. I will definitely stay here again we come to Hawaii sometimes several times a year and this will be my Honolulu go to

Thank you Surfjack! As always time spent at this hotel is such a beautiful experience. The staff is more than friendly and courteous, every person shines Aloha, the entertainment and food a solid 10+! Thank you that during this season of Covid, every staff member wore masks and when not swimming and/or eating, hotel guests wore masks as well. And even with masks, everyone who stayed there or worked there were pleasant, friendly, with positive attitudes making my stay more than pleasant. Yeah, we had to wear masks but the hearts and personalities would shine through! I participated in the dance party and stayed for the island entertainment by Kellie Boy DeLima and the next day with Dustin Parks. Wearing masks made it a little challenging but sitting to rest In between remedied the situation, it was fun. And both singers were exceptional, high quality entertainment. And the sliders, fries, the happy hour menu perfected the evening. Thank you to every staff member, and to fellow guests, you all made my stay fun, enjoyable, that even having to wear masks, it eventually didn’t matter because of the pouring of Aloha And Love, the great food, cleanliness of the rooms and environment, and the beautiful music of the islands, topped off with the happy hour menu, such an incredible time. It’s all about what we focus on; I was concerned about wearing a mask and all the heaviness of Covid, but you my surprise it all didn’t matter! It’s all about what we focus on, the hearts of the people around us, to enjoy, dance, eat delicious food, and have have restful sleep. I love the pillows by the way! I loved it all, thank you so much! What makes Surfjack different from other hotels is that you walk in and have an “experience,” you are swept up in the Aloha and Love, the beauty of Hawaii through its people, it’s food, and an incredible place that feels like home with an upgrade. Thank you again, can wait for a return. Will he sharing with friends to encourage them to stay over or dine to enjoy the experience of Hawaii at Surfjack, Bravo!!!

We stayed at the Surfjack for about a month, 2 weeks of which we were in quarentine due to covid-19, for a PCS military move. After a 14hr plane ride, we finally made it to The Surfjack where we were greeted immediately by staff AND guests who helped us to our room with our tons of luggage. It was in our room before we were. Immediate feeling of being taken care of. The room was SO clean, our balcony was large, the bathroom was beautiful. Very welcoming. For the next 14 days the staff took care of us 100% - from delivering food, drinks, ice, printing things out, delivering towels, taking trash out as we set it by the door. All done with smiles and Aloha. Ah, I just love them all so much. When we finally got to leave our room we spent a lot of time at the GORGEOUS pool, events downstairs, and Mahina and Sons hotel restaurant. I loved that they delivered a sheet with the daily food and drink special. Always smiling staff, always happy guests, and LOVED that it is dog-friendly. Perfectly located in Honolulu. A quick walk to anything you could want. The best hotel we've EVER stayed at. Would go back in a heartbeat (we will go back to visit!)

My daughter suggested this hotel to me telling me that it was really "cool". It was such an amazing experience. The staff are clearly happy to work at the hotel and it shows. They take the time to support and get to know the guests. If you are a "foodie "you have to come for dinner on Thursday-Sunday night as the chef is amazing and truly goes out of the way to create unique and delicious dishes.

Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The rooms have a creative artistic flair that adds to the atmosphere. Having stayed at many of the more "high end" hotels in this area, I think the SurfJack is going the extra mile to make the experience one to remember. Live music every night. Just loved it. Thank you for being so detail oriented.

My family of five and I stayed at the Surfjack for 60 days when we moved to Oahu. We stayed in a spacious two bedroom suite. There was a king size bedroom with a balcony, a separate queen size room, plus a pull out sofa in the living room. I was able to receive a microwave upon request. The accommodations were wonderful and perfect for our family and our excessive amount of stuff.

What set Surfjack apart for us was the amazing service we received from every single staff member. During our quarantine they would walk our dogs for free! Of course we tipped but that was truly appreciated. It was so wonderful to watch the staff truly go above and beyond to help families in such a scary time. We constantly seen people sanitizing and cleaning the lobby and common areas. There wee still nightly events but all guests were kept safe and social distancing was enforced.

The pool is so lovely to relax by and small enough to not feel overwhelmed but also never too crowded.

By the time we left we knew all of the staff by name and they knew our entire family. I would 100% stay here again and look forward to doing so!!

Thank you to Tiki, Kai, Channy and Whitney to name a few of the amazing staff that made Surfjack home for my family.

We selected SurfJack hotel because they are a dog friendly hotel and had seen the tv ads. However, we found out they are not only dog friendly but family and people friendly also. Alex and Jon were so friendly and helpful, as were the other staff. You could ID staff by their SurfJack casual attire. As senior locals we rarely go to Waikiki but the location was in a less busy and safe area, in between Kalakaua and Ala Wai for doggie walks. The hotel gave us an unexpected room upgrade and all rooms have lanais with views and are really clean. Love the surf/beach type decor. The shower faucet has a heating device so there was no waste of water while waiting for a hot shower. They do not charge extra for doggie family and have free parking which is a nice walk from hotel - perfect for extra doggie walking. They give 15% off when eating at the hotel so we, including doggie, enjoyed dinner at Mahina and Sons poolside with entertainment by Kelly boy Delima. We also enjoyed breakfast and their barista. All menus feature local products and my husband really enjoyed his ulu mashed potatoes served with his fish. They had a local craft fair on the night of our stay which was great for supporting local. The hotel also provides an area with free coffee and a pure flow water cooler for drinking, filling your water jugs. The pool was cute and we enjoyed watching families swim and have fun. This is a wonderful cozy and comfortable home away from home that I have been raving to others about. No question as to which hotel to book next go around. Thank you SurfJack for making us feel really comfortable and welcomed!!

We remember that there was shadow in the evening but it was pretty much in the sun throughout the day. If you need shade it is very easy to relax under the overhang surrounding the pool area. There are tables and chairs and even sofas for lounging as well as a few chaises that are right by pool.
