My son and I stayred for Thanksgiving night. Really enjoyed the Surfjack. Service was attentive. Room is lovely. Location just off the hustle and bustle. I highly recommend and will return. The only negative is the hotel is dog friendly. I love dogs but we had some barkers on our floor. Their owners were out and the dogs were barking. That's not a great situation...

Hotel's Favorite
Great rooms with lots of space after long active days. Live music by the pool is terrific every evening. The restaurant has the best food in the area. Breakfasts are super high quality, healthy options and tasty. Family style fish dinner at Mahina and Son's restaurant is a must. The staff are super helpful with planning your daily activities. Amenities are really terrific including the shampoo and conditioner provided, sunscreen at the pool, parking, beach towels and chairs. The coffee shop lattes are wonderful to wake up for.

Just got back from a fantastic 6 night stay at the Surfjack. Rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The mid-century modern vibe of the hotel is really cool. Lots of spots to sit around the pool or in the restaurant and enjoy the live music each evening. We ate at the restaurant and were really impressed with the meal. Rooms were serviced well each day. Great location to access all that Waikiki has to offer, and a great bus stop almost next door to get to Ala Moana, Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor.

I wanted to love this hotel - I like smaller, “boutique-style” hotels. I was drawn to the description of mid-century, as I grew up in the 60s in Honolulu. On the plus side - pricing was reasonable and it included parking. Our room (1 bedroom suite) was a generous size. Comfortable king bed, and thoughtfully decorated. Not really retro, imo. Restaurant was good. We ate 1 dinner and 1 happy hour at Makina and Sun. I like that tables are poolside and give a nice casual feel. Hotel location was good - close to epicenter of Waikiki activity but away from crazy busy Kalakaua. On the con side - although I was not expecting “ocean view”, our room looked directly at a parking garage. We were on the 2nd floor. The free parking (not the garage we looked at, unfortunately) was blocks (maybe 3), making it a bit inconvenient. This is a dog friendly hotel, which I don’t normally mind, but in this case there were a couple of dogs barking for hours in the afternoon (2 days in a row) - obviously left behind by their owners - while we were trying to rest. I notified the front staff - but I suppose there was little they could do. Breakfast starts at 8 which is a late start for us, so we had to struggle to find other earlier options - recommend The Laylow, a couple blocks away! So … with the volume of accommodations available in Waikiki, I think we will try a different location on our next visit.

A super cute, and cozy boutique hotel located about 2 blocks away from the beach, and pretty much in the middle of Waikiki. Walking distance to everything. Very affordable, cute rooms, free morning coffee. The poolside bar and restaurant has delicious food and drinks and very reasonable prices! Aside from all that, Jon and his staff were super friendly and you can feel the Aloha spirit the moment you check in.

This place is cute, it could be amazing but a few things were off for me. The music at night made it uncomfortable to sit at the restaurant, even if I did dine with a mate you’d have to yell so it was lucky I was alone 😜 The doors to the rooms get slammed a lot, if only they would put soft close on the doors. Basically it’s perfect if you are deaf! Needs a few things fixed, like leaking taps, the toilet cistern runs. The rail holding my curtain was falling so I couldn’t close my curtain, the aircon units blow air across the balcony so you can’t really sit outside, my bed was very ordinary. Maybe I’m spoilt but I think a good bed in a hotel is not too much to expect. One of the guys in the bar/restaurant/brekkie was so salty I was scared to go back. The other staff were overall lovely though! The food was good, the chicken soup was sensational!

Great location near beach and shops. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Nothing glamorous but comfortable. Parking is a bit of a hassle. Taking public transit is much easier than using the garage.

Overall product is decent, as bouquet as possible for an older building. We had (2) room: PH (1) BEDROOM SUITE & (3) bedroom suite (3rd floor) The penthouse bathroom was leaking when we arrived but they fixed it. The A/C in both rooms barely made the rooms cool. They should explain that in order to get to the penthouse, you’ll need to walk up one floor when at the reservation stage. On-site parking is not available Service at the front desk is outstanding, however the restaurant manager LISA needs a major tune up. Never have I felt discriminated before by a manager holding up a finger, to express to hold on. She was unapproachable and completely unaware of other guest dining in her establishment. Only after we mentioned we were in-house guest staying in both the Penthouse Suite and the (3) bedroom suite did she readjust her behavior. Her focus was on another large party which happened to have the majority of the wait staff attention. We felt as we didn’t matter, because we were local (KAMAAINA on a staycation) and brown. The bartender CHRIS also a charmer, took 25 minutes to serve a CAN OF BEER. Otherwise, the food at that same restaurant (the only one they have) it was delicious, amazing and tasty. We had the prefix menu for a family of 9. The real sour apple was with the restaurant manager. Terrible as they come, and I work in hospitality! Otherwise - a decent stay. I would not come back because of Lisa. That night we celebrated my moms 60th birthday and all we could remember is LISA and her finger.

The hotel pool is located next to the reception desk which means that the reception area is in the open. You make your way to the elevators and rooms by walking around the pool area. This layout is unusual, and not something we have seen before. The rooms are situated off a hallway that is open and unenclosed. The size of the room was generous, with a bedroom, separate bathroom and a sitting room with TV. The room also had a balcony but the view was of the parking garage in the next building. There were a lot of pigeons flying around and the hotel asks that you not leave food out on the balcony. There was a lot of pigeon poop on the balcony, which was a real turn off, indicating that they have not cleaned the balcony area in a long time. We think that because of the open hallways on the floors, the humidity finds its way into the rooms. We talked to the front desk about it and the cleaning service solved the problem by turning the air conditioner down to 66 degrees. It got rid of the humidity but made it very cold. The bathrooms worked well, with good water pressure and temperature. The bed was moderately comfortable. There was a small refrigerator and a safe. The hotel could probably use a renovation as wear and tear is evident in places. The food at the hotel restaurant Mahina and Sun's was very good, tasty and well presented. We really liked the shrimp risotto and the taro burger. This hotel is one of the few hotels that do not charge a daily resort fee if booked directly and I appreciated that. Also, parking is included in the hotel rate and the garage is located at the Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach, just a couple of blocks away. I really wanted to like the hotel; I just wish we had a better experience.
