Luana Waikiki Hotel & Suites is celebrated for its prime location, just a short walk from Waikiki's beaches, dining, and shopping, though parking can be expensive and the area can be noisy. Cleanliness and comfort are hallmarks of the guest rooms, which come equipped with kitchenettes, despite some guests suggesting updates are needed. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by cultural events and live music, adding to its appeal. While some travelers have concerns about the pool size and the value proposition, the friendly staff and their attentive service often leave a lasting positive impression.

Just spent 10 wonderful days at the Luana, our first time at this hotel… our room was very comfortable, kitchenette fully stocked with everything we needed, beds were comfortable, AC worked great, could have had more comfortable pillow as they were all pretty flat, but we managed and I am certain they would of changed them if we had asked, as they helped immediately with any issues that we had or heard from others.
The fish hook restaurant is fantastic, great food, great service, especially John who normally took my order daily, always smiling and polite. Pool is clean and very refreshing. Front desk staff are very helpful. Elevators are busy at times but can’t be helped, always stairs if your able to use. Location to the beach is about half a mile, takes about 10 minute leisurely stroll through the park that is full of different birds and chickens.
Lovely wine and cheese gatherings a couple times a week, get to meet other guests, good Hawaiian music.
The building is older decors, my room and common areas were very clean, some guests I heard expected more, so if your not too picky, and want simple, clean comfortable accommodation for a decent price where they look after you, then this is the hotel you want.
Thanks Luana, see you in the spring.

This review is way overdue but as a frequent traveler who constantly relies on reviews to book my hotels, I'm compelled to write this review.
I moved to Oahu last Fall and stayed at Luana Waikiki over 2 months before I moved to my new house. I had plenty of hotel options in Waikiki and around the island but Luana won me. It is conveniently located in Waikiki and close to the beach, Ala Moana, and lots of restaurants. And most importantly the rates were reasonable and affordable. The rooms are individually owned but they do a great job maintaining them. There's Hook Cafe that offers some quality food...if you go there you must try the egg shooter..so yummy! The front desk staff was friendly and always willing to help. Martha at the reception always had a smile while greeting guests, and made you feel welcomed and acknowledged. If I had a hospitality or customer service business, I'd want people like Martha to be the face of my business. Very professional, gives one full attention, and always took the time to make sure my questions were answered. The hotel does a wine Wednesday where hotel guests get to drink wine and socialize. They have bbq grills and they offer fresh lime/cucumber water every morning. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and I've already recommended a few people to the hotel. I'd stay here again.

Nice hotel a short walk from the beach. There is an amenity fee and a parking/valet fee if you have a car, but most hotels have this. They do a great job of welcoming guests and are extra friendly. One of the amenities gives $10/day for the restaurant downstairs. They have great breakfast options and although we didn't have lunch or dinner there, it all looked great. Beach towels are easy to get at the desk when you need them and are heading over to the beach. It's a nice walk through the park to the beach. Beautiful sunsets. We got a room that also had a kitchenette. Wonderful to be able to make your own meals or reheat some leftovers. Refrigerator, toaster oven, blender, stovetop, microwave, and all the plates/cups/utensils you need. My kids enjoyed the pool. It's not huge, but it was never really that busy while we were there. Our room had a balcony facing the street the hotel sits on. It was not loud, and we all slept well. There is a tv and game system in the room too, but we did not use them. Shower had nice hot water and good water pressure. There were 3 elevators and they were quick, we never waited long. Wi-fi was excellent. We had a car and the valet were always quick to retrieve our car when we needed it. No issues. Overall a wonderful stay at the Luana. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable hotel walkable distance to the beach.

Aloha JanisN123, We are very happy you had a "Wonderful stay at the Luana Waikiki"! We recently replaced all the lanai/balcony doors with triple pane glass hurricane resistant doors. This keeps the street noise to a minimum and the tint keeps the room cool during the day. We also added a full set of kitchen equipment and appliances, anticipating our guest's need to prepare simple meals or heat up leftovers, until the restaurants in Waikiki, increase their seating capacity to pre-pandemic levels. We even added a third “thousand dollar” Weber grill in the BBQ area located next to the pool deck, for those who choose to grill their food while enjoying a sunset over the serene park located right behind the hotel. Thank you for your recommendation of the Luana Waikiki Hotel and Suites. Best regards, Clem

Luana used to be a decent hotel but the cracks turned to creators. Terrible crisis response from hotel upper management. Historically unexpected virus crisis, yes... but do not coldly strip away guest amenities without replacing it with kindness and aloha. This is not “sharing our concern.” Zero communication to guests. We calmly reported all matters to professional front desk staff and Aqua Aston reservations phone number yet no response or notice from on-site Luana manager. In time of need, hotels should step up hospitality not coldly rip it away from guests. Hand sanitizer (as mentioned by other review) not visible at lobby water station or anywhere near any elevators. One bottle behind front desk and 1 wet wipe can. Water stations missing from pool and lobby; at least put out free bottled water, the hotel is 90% vacant, it’s a crisis and guests are in need of supplies, support & resources. Cleaning staff drastically reduced, at least keep the cleaning staff onboard during a virus pandemic. No updates on the many local Waikiki closures or shelter-in-place declarations. Free shuttle hours 10:30am posted by management erroneously it’s still 8:30am. And no guest help from the hotel manager to get to supplies or food during this crisis. Free wine and cheese event can be substituted with room delivery to those that enjoy the hospitality. Just a nice Luana care package with practical emergency supplies would have been awesome. Basically if something goes down, you’re on your own folks. Glad to be home in the mainland, felt like a contestant on Survivor. Luana in the early 2000’s was top notch hospitality, I’ve stayed 3 times previous, but since new manager stepped in it hasn’t stepped up.

Good:
Nice staff everywhere from frontdesk to valet parking to maintenance
Beautiful furniture in lobby
Location, albeit 10-15 minute walk to beach
Fish Hook $10 daily coupon
Water with lemon and Orange slices in lobby for guests
Ability to sign out beach chairs and umbrella
Nice pool with great seating
Pool has a bathroom with shower
BBQ area
Good towels for beach and good orange towels for pool
Good selection of TV channels
Great Xmas Tree and wonderful Xmas piped into Pool area
3 elevators
Daily Honolulu Newspaper
Self service laundry room
Great ice machine
Nice wine and cheese mixer for guests

Bad:
Valet Parking Only Option at $40 per night;
Rugs in hallways really need to be either shampooed or completely removed;
Housekeeping not very efficient, could be better by using a real mop with water to thoroughly clean floors;
Bathroom with Shower at pool needs to be cleaned daily;

Ugly:
The Air Conditioner Unit needs a thorough cleaning! I cleaned my room and couldn’t help but notice a black residue on the floor, particularly close to the AC. I started to wipe down the outside of the AC with Lysol wipes and the clothes were black!
I then took off the front plastic panel and was horrified to see the metal slats completely covered in mold. I wiped down the panels…took 30 wipes to do it and then sprayed a microbial spray to kill any further fungus/mold.

All in all the Luana is a well run Hotel but closer attention needs to focus on housekeeping…maybe routine inspections of prepared rooms to ensure an optimal level of sanitation and hygiene. And I suggest routine maintenance with the air conditioners. When the AC has a black mold sludge adhered to the cooling metal…then the AC is working very hard to cool air and just cannot…
Lastly, I have great concerns with the Mold and the health hazard imposed by this amount of mold, particularly when it is continually being blown into the living space.
The only reason why I stayed my duration was due to my impeccable cleaning skills and the massive amount of lysol wipes that I used while staying at the Luana and I would not have gotten a refund had I checked out early!

Called reservations number twice prior to day of checking in to confirm total price and room type (kitchen/kitchen) with double beds. When I checked in, front desk had a problem and said my room did not have a kitchen. Waited 20mins because front desk girl said she’s fixing the problem. Ended up paying waaaaay more than expected which is exactly why I called before checking in, so I would know my budget. I was really upset, bought all my groceries for the weekend, then have front desk tell me that my room didn’t have a kitchen!!! Had no choice but to upgrade to a room with kitchen and pay so $$$$ more than my original quote.

My third visit to Hawaii, I stayed at Luana Waikiki for 5 nights for the Honolulu marathon. My choice was based on location relative to the race start/finish, self catering facilities and reviews. I made a good choice. Accommodation was exactly as described, spacious, clean and comfortable. My only confusion was the absence of any pots/pans to go with the stove top and cooking utensils, easily solved by purchasing my own from the local supermarket. The staff were polite and extremely helpful in answering queries, every staff member I interacted with was personable and showed enthusiasm for their work. I read a lot of criticism of the daily amenity fee prior to booking, I was aware of the fee and factored it into my expenses, but I do not see the point of having it as an extra charge as it is not avoidable; either add it to the room charge or offer it as an optional extra, rather than highlighting it as an additional fee. Many of the services included in the list covered by the amenities fees are standard inclusions in a room rate in most accommodations worldwide, the others on the list are supernumerary to my needs and I would prefer not to be forced to pay for them. I was unable to use the $50 dining credit at the cafe as there was nothing on the menu that I would consume, and the reason I stay in self catering accommodation is to self cater to my dietary needs. That is my only criticism of what was a really good place to stay.

Aloha S42195km, First of all, Congratulations on participating in the Honolulu Marathon! Respect! We appreciate that you feel you made a "good choice" selecting the Luana Waikiki Hotel and Suites. My apologies that you may not have located the pots and pans in the lower drawers of the kitchen cabinet. We would have gladly directed you to the cookware, if you had contacted us and happily provided any additional pots or pans you required, during your stay. Appreciate your feedback regarding the amenities. Perusing the guest feedback on this site, many find value in the services provided and enjoy the restaurant offerings. We regret that you did not bring this to our attention. Thank you for your conclusion and closing comment, that the Luana Waikiki is a "really good place to stay". Best regards, Clem

This was my first time staying at the Luana. My friends and I had a wedding to attend and because of the out of town guests, we decided to spend some time together in Waikiki. We chose the Luana because of the Location and also the affordable rates they had to offer. From the time we booked our reservations, to the day of check-in, and check-out, our expectations of their customer service were definitely exceeded! A special thank you to the Front Desk agents- Kim, Alexis, and Martha who helped us with our reservations from day one. They went above and beyond to help accommodate our large group and made sure we were taken cared of upon our arrival. We had two rooms, which were spacious and clean. They even accommodated an early check in and check out that we had requested, which we were informed was not guaranteed but based upon availability of the day of. Also, James and Chet were more than helpful on the day of check in assisting us with our cars and luggage! Kim, Alexis, Martha, James, and Chet exuded the true meaning of "ALOHA" and made us feel at home!!

Someone contact us via text in our second day, asking how was our staying so far? We said not so great, because of few issues related to the bathroom and specially the mattress that felt like was 20 plus years old and extremely uncomfortable, like a pullout couch in someone’s basement.

They said what can we do to help? We said we would love to move rooms. They said all the rooms was fully booked, but on the same day when we got back to the hotel, on the same floor we were staying, we saw so many rooms that was cleaned and empty with the paper on the door saying that those rooms was clean, meaning ready for feature guests. In another word, they lie by saying was no rooms available.

If they couldn’t do anything to help, why did they reached to us in the first place??

We stayed another 3 nights after that since we already paid for it.

We travel at least once a month, and this was so far the most uncomfortable bed we ever slept.
Besides the bathroom was designed to kindergarten style, extremely short toilet and sink.

I would not recommend.
On the positive note, the front desk people and the valet was very friendly and polite.

We were looking for a cheaper Waikiki hotel with good ratings and Luana Hotel & Suites ticked all the boxes. The hotel also has some of the cheapest onsite parking in Waikiki. Waiting for the valet can be annoying, so make sure you are downstairs at least 10 minutes before you want to leave.

Our room was clean and spacious, plus the bed was really comfortable. It was great having an almost full size kitchen, although we only used it to make breakfast. The double glazing blocked out all the road noise below. The air conditioner was really noisy but we managed to fix the rattle.

We arrived at 9am on check in day and they kindly let us into our room early. They also gave us a small bottle of sparkling wine since we were on our honeymoon, which was a lovely touch.

They said housekeeping was every 3 days but they actually made up our room every 2 days, which was a bit confusing. Other guests complained the pool was too cold but I found it refreshing, it was over 20 degrees Celsius.

If you are looking for a cheaper hotel in the Waikiki area and are scared off by the terrible ratings some hotels have, Luana is a good choice.

And we strive to provide a clean and comfortable well equipped room. With the cold, wet weather we have been experiencing lately, we have turned up the heat in our salt water heated pool. Thank you for making the Luana Waikiki, your hotel of choice in Waikiki! Take care, Clem

Parking is $40, one of the cheapest hotel valets we found. You may be able to get cheaper parking at a parking garage but the closest one is closed. Next closest was 10 minute walk and didn't save you much money

Yes. There is a park behind the hotel that you can walk through directly to the beach. It's not overcrowded. Has picnic tables and grassy areas before you get to the beach too for picnics. We preferred this beach to Waikiki. It's just north of Waikiki and all the hotels along the beach. There are places to grab food a short walk away as well. Checkout DeRussy Beach.
