Simply put, AMAZING. The Kahala Hotel was the perfect retreat for my fiancé (now husband) and I to have our mini honeymoon after we got married. Obviously due to COVID, we were not willing/able to travel off island. The Kahala Hotel was an oasis in the middle of Honolulu. We forgot that we were just miles from home. While I am certainly not an early morning person, we made it a point to wake up for the stunning sunrises from our balcony. It was so calming to watch the sun peak out over the horizon and listen to the sounds of the waves lapping the shoreline. Our room was so comfortable and the house keeping staff is truly amazing. As we were enjoying a cup of tea in bed, it accidentally spilled. We called and they were there in no time to change out our bedding. So sorry for the extra laundry, but thank you so much for the dry sheets! Such great service. When we ventured down to the pool/beach, we had no problem finding a couple of beach chairs on the lawn (we were looking for a bit of shade). If we had wanted chairs on the beach, the attendants were more than willing to set up chairs wherever we wanted. We saw them do this for other patrons as well. The pool is on the smaller side. However, the beach is spectacular and we spent more time there. Even at its most crowded, I never felt that we weren't able to social distance. The ocean water was warm and you can walk out quite a ways and still be able to stand. At night, we'd take walks along the beach and star gaze. We even saw a few shooting stars! Our dining experiences were also top notch. We had breakfast and dinner at the Plumeria Beach House. Because of limited seating, we did make reservations the day before. You have the option of viewing the menu on your phone by scanning a QR code, or they have paper menus available (they do not reuse these so you can actually keep them - mine is going in a scrapbook). The food at both breakfast and dinner were so tasty. We'll definitely be coming back for more of that! Another highlight of our stay was our Dolphin Encounter experience. We were able to spend time with a trainer and got up close with two dolphins, Liho & Kolohe. We learned about them and go to ask them to do some tricks. We even had the opportunity to swim along side them! Another reason we chose to stay at The Kahala Hotel was because of their cleaning protocols during this time. The Kahala has put into place and been practicing these cleaning procedures for months. That was very comforting and offered such peace of mind. After checking us in, Ricky did a thorough wipe down of the area. We saw this happen a few times more when we stopped by the Front Desk/Concierge with questions (Thank you Leilani for answering all of our questions!). They have hand sanitizer every where you look, and have signage on the elevators for only one party use them at a time. Crowded elevators were never a problem though. Only once during our three day stay was there another couple waiting for an elevator at the same time. We highly recommend staying at The Kahala Hotel and Resort and I know we will be back again!

Hotel's Favorite
The Kahala is like an oasis in the middle of a bustling city! After a day of shopping in the downtown Honolulu/Waikiki area, it’s so nice to “go home” to The Kahala. It’s beautiful ocean front property and friendly service makes it a favorite among locals and visitors. This was my second stay and it’s safe to say that I will definitely be back again soon! Oh and the beachfront room was amazing! It comes with your own lounge chairs and umbrella.

Heaven on earth. Most beautiful sunrise and the most awesomest sunset. You can experience both because its past Diamond Head Crater and before Koko Head Crater. Unreal morning skies! And i could go on and on, just like the sunset! Unbelievable site, its just crazy. Ohhh!!!and the food. Auwe na ho'i! (Oh my goodness) so ono! (taste gooood) And the beautiful, graceful dolphins. I watched them dance from my balcony. So blessed. Ocean and swimming pool in close proximity. Went in both! We had an amazing time, that I will never forget!

The Kahala Hotel has done one thing right, and that they were very good at apologizing and getting it right the second time. I've read and been told the Kahala is known for their special touches and individualized guest services which helps differentiate themselves from their competitors. Sadly, as much as I wanted to love the Kahala Hotel, I probably was just a "fluke of a guest," and the whole experienced left me very underwhelmed. It's just that I was just disappointed and sad by my whole experience. I stayed here for my birthday weekend to relax with my pet through the First Responder's Promotion. The reservation agent asked if I was celebrating anything special, I told her it was my birthday weekend and that I would also bring my pet with me. The agent tells me that the Pet Fee ($150) was waived as a gesture of the hotel's appreciation for our First Responders which was great. (1) Valet was unavailable, and you had to self-park. This wasn't the issue per se, but the issue dealt with my luggage which had hot and cold items. It took over 2 hours from the time I checked in to receive my things. After waiting in my room, I thought to myself, maybe I misunderstood the bellman, let me call the front desk and ask if I would have to fetch for my luggage downstairs. I call and inquire about the whereabouts of my luggage, the front desk employee seemed confused and apologized that my luggage didn't come in a timely manner and that they will send for it "right away." (2) During Check-in, the employee confirmed my stays and asked if I was staying in the hotel for anything special, I told her that I was spending my birthday here with my pet. She then asked if I would be spending my birthday with anyone else and I told her, "no." There was silence for a good 2-3 seconds, (I could tell she was trying to think of something else to say which segwayed to where I got my pet, AWKWARD). I then re-confirmed with her if the Pet Fee was waived and if the bed and bowls etc. were in the room, she seemed confused about the waived Pet Fee, but as she checked her computer, she did confirm that it was indeed waived, and all the items should be in my room. (3) Again, I had to call the front desk after a few hours later after checking-in about the dog bowl and bed, I was told the second time, it will be sent up, "right away." (4) Also during check-in, the employee gives me a check list of items I wanted in the room such as a dental kit, the usual toiletries, etc. As I was getting ready to shower at 10 PM that night, none of the requested toiletries arrived. I had to once again call the front desk, the employee again apologized and told me the items will be arriving, "right away." I'm going to assume the checklist was thrown into the trash bc when housekeeping delivered the items, the items were not the ones I requested. I was too tired, and I just let it slide through. Sadly this time, I knew that this was going to be an ongoing pattern. (5) Also, on the day of arrival, I went to the pool attendant to ask for towels to use for the beach chairs they had outside for the guests. The attendant points to the used towels in a bin. I was so confused, that I had to ask him for, "fresh towels." He then tells me that the towels are for guests of the hotel and that I would have to show him my room key etc. I'm just confused on why he didn't ask me this the beginning instead of directing me to the used towels in the bin for me to use. I've never experienced this before, and just left me uncomfortable. (6) That night I placed a to-go-order at the Plumeria Beach house. Once I arrived in my room, there were missing items, so I had to call the restaurant to let them know what had happened. Again, the employee apologized and told me that they will send someone to come to my room to hand deliver the missing items in the order. (7) Additionally, I called the front desk to inquire If I could have silverware and table linen sent up to my room since the packed food were in eco-friendly take out containers that soil through easily. I was told that it wasn't a problem and that it will be sent to my room, "right away." One hour and thirty minutes later, I get a knock and a man delivers two pieces of linen napkins and two sets of silverware. Sadly, I didn't use them since "right away" meant over an hour and the food has already been eaten. (8) The day after, I had dinner at the Plumeria Beach house. When reservations were made that same day, I was asked if I was celebrating anything special, I told the hostess that I was celebrating my birthday. Sadly, there was no acknowledgement from the staff that you read on Yelp congratulating people on their birthdays. I thought to myself, maybe they'll send a slice of cake to my room or a card at least. Sadly, nothing. It's just unfortunate that I've been asked many times by hotel staff if there was anything special, I was celebrating and during my whole stay there was no acknowledgement. What’s the point of asking me if I’m celebrating anything special? All in all, my stay was a disappointment and albeit sad. There were 8 issues in total for a 2-night, 3- day stay. I really wanted to love this place and rave about this with my friends and family. However, I genuinely didn’t feel the “love” or "the extended family vibe" that n many of the reviews I’ve read on Yelp and Trip Advisor. I know these are small issues and are "first world issues." I don’t fault the staff because we are living in an uncertain time in the hotel industry. But, it’s just sad and disappointing I couldn’t feel the “specialness” guests rave about and how the staff goes above and beyond to make their guests feel extra special. I understand that during this uncertain time, that the hotel industry is rapidly changing day by day due to COVID. I hope the hotel works things out because I wouldn’t want to wish this experience I had to any guests especially if they are traveling solo. Ultimately, the staff at the hotel should be like a second family to the guests and this was not the case.

Every year my wife and I do a yearly trip, thanks to Covid19 we could not travel. So we planned a staycation, found the rates at the Kahala hotel were reasonable so we booked it. As we arrived to the hotel we were greated by Gary, we liked how their name tags have little tid bits about them, weqqq remember how it said he liked to gamble. He was very friendly and helpful and even though he was wearing a mask you could tell he was smiling the entire time. This made us feel even more welcome. We preceeded to the front desk, there was a couple in front of us. Upon the couple completing their business the lady at the front desk wiped everything down which made us feel safe. I believe her name was Emiko, and again you could tell she was smiling through her mask. She welcomed us and made sure that we felt comfortable and attended to our needs. Checking in was fast, and our rooms were ready as promised. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a room on the beach which I would highly recommend. One morning as we were about to go exercise we had a few questions on places to eat and running routes I believe it was Tyler working the front desk, he made excellent suggestions for place to eat and gave us a small map of different running routes with mileages. He also made sure that we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. You could also tell he was smiling through his mask. All the staff made us feel welcome and safe. You could see them cleaning the general areas constantly. The beach was beautiful and easy to access. I would also like to recommend swimming with the dolphins. Very educational and their care for the dolphins is extraordinary.
