The Howland House is a small, unobtrusive, environmentally conscious historic inn situated on a mostly residential street in Newport. The central location is convenient, as it’s just a few minutes walk from restaurants, boutiques, the harbor, Bellevue Ave., Touro synagogue, and Newport museums. The parking space was much appreciated in this busy town. I stayed in the first floor “knotty suite” which was tastefully decorated, large and comfortable. The sitting room has a nice sized sofa, a big antique desk and comfy chair, an arm chair, and a small table with two cafe chairs. The fireplace is lovely but it is nonfunctional. In the bedroom is a good sized closet with robes and a safe, a very nice king bed, a bookcase with at least a dozen good books, a large TV, fridge and freezer, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. Provisions are 6 coffee pods, some packets of tea, several cans of water, a pint of farm milk and orange juice, 6 yogurts and four granola bars for self serve breakfast. The bathroom had a separate glass shower and a programmable “Bain ultra” whirlpool tub. The only issue I had was with noisy guests upstairs, as the old floors creak loudly above, and their late night conversations and laughter woke me up each night. I assume the upstairs suites would probably be quieter.…
Caring staff and owners, concerned for you and the environment, are at the heart of this Inn. Breakfast was in the room, the microvave and fridge making self service when you needed to eat supurb, Dietary requirements were carefully attended too, and I so enjoyed the special finds. Bamboo paper products also added to the care that goes into this Inn. As you would expect everything was pritine, the bed comfortable and the spacious environment relaxing. I don't have enough words of praise.
The Howland House is a clean safe and cozy home right in the heart of Newport. We had easy walking to the waterfront, the historical society for walking tours and great restaurants. We strolled the neighborhood admiring the beautiful historic homes every night after dinner. Karen is a great hostess who is responsive to every need, loves the region and really interesting to engage in conversation. The house is very quiet and definitely conducive to a good nights sleep,
We spend most of our summer in Newport but when have family visiting often stay elsewhere to accommodate all. This is the best inn ever. I am not one for bed and breakfasts and prefer the space of a larger hotel but this inn checked every box. The suite was spacious, decorated meticulously, with attention to every detail. The breakfast was delicious with again, tremendous thought to each detail. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom large with the most amazing toiletries. Clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable! Karen is lovely and this is now, after ten years of coming to Newport, one of my favorite places.
We just got back from a night at the Howland House Inn and I am smitten. This Inn had everything we could have wanted- plenty of space, all the amenities we needed, modern conveniences, best location in town and the nicest innkeeper. Our 2 bedroom suite was enormous and we had our own private kitchen which was well- stocked and an adorable patio area. The bed was very comfortable and the little touches were everywhere (organic bath products, fresh from the farm juice, milk and eggs in the fridge, several types of coffee and to my delight a french press! (it had a regular coffee maker as well but I love a french press). Honestly, this is my new favorite place to stay in Newport and I can't thank Karen enough for her hospitality.
My wife and I stayed here during our mini-mooon and absolutely loved it! The location is a two-minute walk to downtown Newport, parking is available, and the digs itself was wonderful. We had an issue come up on our second day and Karen was super responsive and got everything squared away immediately...she's also super friendly, kind, and as accommodating as you can be. If the OWNER is reading, make sure you do whatever you can to keep Karen around as she made our stay even better. Highly recommend!
Just stayed at this place. very, very, very clean. I think you could eat off the floor if you wanted to. Great 2 person tub, bed was nice. great location. I'd stay here again. thanks to the little old lady that checked me in.
In the heart of Newport, a minute from all restaurants and bars, this historic inn is simply elegant. Owned by the sixth generation of the third American family, the inn displays original beams from 1765.
This was our first time staying at this amazing Inn. Karen the Inn keeper was very knowledgable on most of the history of the area. I enjoyed hearing her tell us the stories. The Inn was immaculate. All of the products used at the Inn are organic and purchased on the island. The kitchen is open anytime u need something and is self serve. In the morning we came down to fresh coffe and buttery croissants. Also eggs and muffins if u prefer. Cold cereal fresh milk and oj too. The bed in our room was extremely comfortable. All doors to the Inn and rooms are electronic with a personal code just for u. Safety is a must and well taken care of. The inn is within walking distance to restaurants and shops which is good because parking in Newport can be tough. Looking forward to staying again soon. …
Excellent suite Inn, quiet , comfortable and very convenient. Excellent breakfast and Karen is a most gracious innkeeper very knowledgeable about all things Newport and much more. King sized beautiful bed and linens. Nice living room and clean and up to date bathroom. Everything is well kept up especially considering the age of the Inn. Very convenient inn parking for guests. Quiet neighborhood within a very short walk of the busy waterfront.
