The pros: The hotel is within walking distance to everything downtown which is a huge draw. The parking is wonderful as there is a huge lot to accommodate all guests. The front desk staff was polite and welcoming. The cons: The room was outdated and worn. The old heater/air conditioning unit front piece was falling off and we had to pick it up and reattach it. The sink was clogged and the bath tub was too which took 25 minutes to drain. There was no water bottles in the room, let alone a pad or even a pen to write with. It was bare bones and no frills. Sadly, it was a cold and windy with some rain during our visit so we were in our room more than we liked or imagined. That said, the lack of amenities and starkness, made us realize it was not a place we would be revisiting.
This hotel is in a great location. You can walk to many restaurants and shops. It is very close to the transportation center to get a trolley for a tour. However, the restaurant was closed the second week in May. The decor is rather drab. Everything is gray, navy and brown. The bed was comfortable. For a central location this hotel is a good choice.
this hotel is in a great locationn, the staff was very helpful, the room was very clean and neat, secured parking is also very good. we had 2 double beds and they were very comfortable. the staff told us about a great place for breakfast. the hungry monkey.
Slightly dated but very well kept and clean. Staff VERY welcoming and accommodating. Only one elevator and the restaurant was hit by staffing due to COVID so no food service beyond coffee and drinks; $20/day charge (all inclusive) for things like bottles of water, Wifi, parking, etc., so not too bad given the location. Room was nice and clean. Fridge kept things cold but no microwave. Local area fantastic for food (light and/or robust meals), shopping, sight seeing and the like. Close to the freeway. Bring good walking shoes as many streets are cobble. I would recommend booking 9-12 months in advance. All in all, we'd go back!!
Only problem was the partly disguised "amenity fee" ($20-$35 depending on season) that they bury in the fine print. Covers bunch of things you ought to expect with your stay plus others you might have no intention of using. They don't tell you how much it'll be until a few days beforehand. Too nice a place for them to play these stupid games.
Very disappointed in this hotel's amenities. When I am spending over $500 a night, the heater should be working in the indoor pool, the vending machines should be working and especially an advertised Keurig coffee maker in my room. I will not be back.
Email confirmation said there would be a breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant with a buy one get one free special. There was no breakfast buffet offered at all. When questioned, they just said there was none. Also charged $4.50 for a cup of coffee. Pool was not available during our stay also.
The pool was broken, we had three kids in tow. I inquired at the desk and the staff member told me there was nothing he could do and that his manager would be mad if he texted. A price adjustment would have been nice. The newer hotel up the road offers an in state discount (price diff was $100 per night) but had no pool so we changed our booking. Sorry we did, but mostly bc of one negative interaction with a staff member who clearly could not have cared less. Otherwise walkout room was nice, and we enjoyed hanging out by the fire pit with other families staycationing
Heated pool out of service until May was not aware of this! Family of 5 no rollaway beds allowed due to fire codes but saw one being pulled out of a room after my stay!! Rooms need to be updated!!!!!!
The pictures on the website do not reflect how shabby this hotel is. The only positive would be the location. The beds are small and uncomfortable. There was mold in the bathroom, and stains on the carpet. We love Newport but will never stay here again.
