    Great Stay at Newport Marriott
We stayed at the Newport Marriott for a marriage retreat back in February 2020. The hotel is beautiful! As you pull up, there is valet parking offered or you can try and find on-street parking. The large glass doors and open entrance way lead to the front desk on the left. The decor is AMAZING to say the least. It is set up to look like a cruise ship and flows well with the nautical decor of ropes, blue hues, artwork, and fountains. It is so beautiful to look at. My favorite was the little seating area near the breakfast area. It has these little hanging chair swings that you can enjoy a nice drink or a coffee. The hotel offered the most delicious assortment of cookies and the conference rooms were large, comfortable, and roomy. We had a room on the 4th floor. We had a view over looking the city with a floor to ceiling glass window. The bed was clean and comfortable. We didn't have a chance to use the pool or the gym as we were quite busy. The all glass elevator was pretty when going to or from our room. The location of this hotel is just perfect and one can easily access restaurants, bars, and shopping by foot. Right outside the hotel is the harbor with docks and walking path. We were able to see the most stunning sunset. There are on-site restaurants at the hotel and they do serve Starbucks coffee in the lobby. We went to the nearby restaurants to just get some fresh air and check out some of the local shops. Thank you Marriott for a wonderful stay.

    Really Appreciated The Suite Upgrade
At the very last minute we were upgraded to a suite which made this stay perfect while I worked in one room and my college aged girl did her remote studies in the other room. The suite was wonderful, nicely furnished with an amazing view and a fantastic bed! The living room was also very comfortable. We visited Skiff twice. The bartender took care of us outdoors each time. He was pleasant, efficient and the food was very good! This Marriott property offers a $25 per person breakfast credit (up to $50 per day) for Platinum and higher statuses. We chose to enjoy the view from our room with room service. It looks a little different during the Covid era with everything packed in disposable containers, but again, the food was delicious. The suite upgrade really made our stay since it was work/school combo. Each and every staff member we encountered was extremely pleasant and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out. This “staycation” was just what we needed! A change of scenery! I might also add the hotel was spotless! There are hand stations with hand sanitizer everywhere. We saw several people cleaning high traffic/touch areas during our brief two night stay. I would highly recommend this hotel. We felt all proper Covid precautions were taken. We felt very safe. Everyone wore masks as well. It’s too bad the suite upgrades are not known until the day of checkin. We would be back at least once a month this winter if we knew the work/school combo would work for us. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!
Dear Traveler_200950, Thank you for your review. Your feedback is much appreciated, and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again soon. Thank you for choosing the Newport Marriott!

Good hotel within walking distance to everything
Check in was seamless with the front desk recognizing my Marriott status. It was a holiday weekend and we were able to park in the garage for no charge. We booked an atrium room and the balcony was perfect for coffee or a cocktail. The room was spotless, but we still ran through our own Clorox wipe down. We declined room service, but you could request it. You could pick up fresh towels or bed linens at the desk or have them delivered. Room was a good size with a full sitting area and coffee table. We were able to use the pool and gym after filling out the contract tracing information. We never found anyone else in the gym. The pool always had a few people, but the real gem was to sit outside of the pool and look into the Newport harbor. The hotel was doing the best it could with the current and ever changing COVID-19 restrictions. Some guests didn’t wear masks and the enforcement from hotel staff varied greatly. There was also a 2 person limit of non-related guests in the elevators, so that can cause lines at times. Only negative was at times staffing was overwhelmed. On checkout there was one front desk associate, the system was down and she was just turning everyone away saying I can’t do anything about it. Thankfully it came up shortly and we were able to do a proper check-out. One gem is that across the street in a plaza is liberty donuts, that is perfect for breakfast. They not only have donuts, but breakfast sandwiches, bagels, etc. Bottom line I would stay here again when traveling to Newport, price was right, location great (never had to use our car during our stay), and staff was making the best of it the current restrictions.

As part of a wedding block we paid $600+ dollars for a small room with a view of a parking garage and a closet you couldn't hang a dress or suit in. The furniture was cheap and the customer service (except for the valet) was sub par. When I spoke to the front desk about the disparity in rooms for fellow wedding guests for the same price, employee with apathetic. If you are planning a wedding in Newport, do your guests a favor and go somewhere else. This hotel is a rip-off. I'll will try to avoid Marriott hotels in the future.

Overall this stay was a disappointment. We stayed at this hotel for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. From the minute my husband checked we found this facility to be nothing but a “Money Grab”. Positives: Staff was nice and the entrance lobby extremely clean. Negatives: FEES: He was told that they have a $30 “destination fee” but it would be credited if you ate at one of their restaurants. Then a $40 parking fee, you could pay this fee for valet or park it yourself. ROOM: Room was extremely small, we had a luggage cart and once it was in the room there was very little room to move around. Continuing with the room the bathroom was VERY small. I HAVE SEEN BIGGER ROOMS ON A CRUISE SHIP. The room was dated and needed up dates. Carpet was stained as was the couch in the room. Room view was of the parking garage. Wonderful view for a $500+ room! Restaurant: expensive by any standard, coffee $7 and a standard breakfast $22. Very disappointing!

Unfortunately my stay with my daughter at the Newport Marriott began so poorly that it cast a pall over the 2 days/nights that followed. The check-in team was condescending and disrespectful. I understand that early arrival cannot be guaranteed, but in my travels it is often honored and, at the very least, my room is always available at the "regular" check in. On Marriott's app they note that you can choose your check-in time on their dropdown which includes 11AM, so right away that creates a false sense that your checkin may actually be honored. I arrived at 11:30 and totally understood our room wouldn't be ready at that point but I asked to be wait listed. I stopped by the front desk again at 3PM, nothing. By 4PM, when I was told my room was still not ready, I got angry and was met with platitudes and a negative attitude from Christina, the front desk manager, that steamed me up even more. There is no way I was ever wait listed for my room - and a water view one at that, which is quite pricy and I'd so looked forward to enjoying it. Finally at 4:35 I got the key to my room. I also asked for a voucher and received a $50 one, something that should have voluntarily been given to me, I should not have to have asked for it! Where is the courtesy? To add insult to injury, my remote broke and our TV would not shut off the last night, had to have a technician come to our room at 9:30, it would've been funny if it just hadn't been the icing on a very poorly made cake. I will never return to the Newport Marriott and right now I'm not sure when I'll go to any Marriotts, that's how bad this experience was for me.

Overall this stay was a big disappointment: Positives > professional staff > very well maintained (high quality decor and spaces) .>wonderful location > very nice bar with pleasant outside space Negatives > awful air conditioning setup: blows aggressively on one's head while in bed. So bad that it had to be turned off on a hot day...simply awful > The desk had one (dim!) light and no place to plug in (110 volt) unless you crawled under the desk. Even cheap hotels provide lamps with outlets or some type of power strip on the desk. > The desk side of the room was very dark (that one dim desk lamp)..no other lamps and NO overhead lighting in the room whatsoever. > The headboard side of the room also had no easy way to plug in unless one was willing to crawl under the table separating the beds > not a usb port anywhere to be seen in the entire room > EXPENSIVE!..this room was almost $700 a night...if we had a great experience that would have been OK, but...(see above)

Horrible experience. Very unexpected for Marriott. Expensive and overrated. Dinner in a completely empty hotel restaurant. Inflexible system of having to use their valet to park the car is waste of time and money.

Gorgeous hotel! We have a harbor view and it's beautiful. Everything feels fresh and clean. Rooms have all the updates. Valet parking required, but you are right in the middle of everything. Walkable to all of the shopping. This Marriott feels very upscale.

The staff was great but for the price, the rooms were small, carpet and decor dirty and outdated and the offerings sparse. The location was the only real perk. The pool was cold and cloudy, room service menu very limited, no microwave or substantial amenities in the rooms, and it was disappointing. As a Bonvoy member I wouldn't stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location just as you enter Newport past the old cemetery. It was so easy to walk down Thames and there is a trolley stop right next door. Valet parking is easy & helpful. The front desk staff is welcoming and accommodating. Meredith in concierge is super helpful with any questions you may have and was very sweet...she really knows the area well. The lobby had some great swinging chairs around a fountain as well as a convenient coffee kiosk making for a quick, easy breakfast stop on your way out for the day. The rooms were very nice and well appointed. We did not eat at the restaurant during our stay but did go to Skiff Bar for some pre dinner drinks & apps. While the server we had could certainly use some 'personality training', the food and drinks were on par. All in all, a nice place to stay in the Newport area.

It's overpriced for the terrible service and tragic interior. Platinum member spent a fortune for a family event and had a room looking at the parking lot. The hostess at breakfast was exceptionally rude to my pregnant daughter and made her cry. The valet's are brain dead high schoolers that failed to ever bring our car up on time despite the fact we called down and then parked it very far away and watched as we loaded our own luggage. Altogether a dismal experience. There is really nothing to recommend about this hotel. Newport was amazing. The people that work at this hotel suck.

Dear sirs I recently booked a a trip at the Newport Marriott in Newport Rhode Island. I was held up on business when I called to say I was coming in a day late. They told me that my reservations had been cancelled.I believe this to be an illegal act if I had not called , I would be wasting my time and money going to Newport .I believe this to be a illegal act since I’ve already left my deposit. I will never stay at this hotel again.
