Great hotel and great location in Newport. The skiff bar is great and available to walk everywhere is the best reason to stay here. Many great restaurants are nearby and some great bars as well. Fitness room is outstanding as well as the indoor pool.

At the very last minute we were upgraded to a suite which made this stay perfect while I worked in one room and my college aged girl did her remote studies in the other room. The suite was wonderful, nicely furnished with an amazing view and a fantastic bed! The living room was also very comfortable. We visited Skiff twice. The bartender took care of us outdoors each time. He was pleasant, efficient and the food was very good! This Marriott property offers a $25 per person breakfast credit (up to $50 per day) for Platinum and higher statuses. We chose to enjoy the view from our room with room service. It looks a little different during the Covid era with everything packed in disposable containers, but again, the food was delicious. The suite upgrade really made our stay since it was work/school combo. Each and every staff member we encountered was extremely pleasant and helpful from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out. This “staycation” was just what we needed! A change of scenery! I might also add the hotel was spotless! There are hand stations with hand sanitizer everywhere. We saw several people cleaning high traffic/touch areas during our brief two night stay. I would highly recommend this hotel. We felt all proper Covid precautions were taken. We felt very safe. Everyone wore masks as well. It’s too bad the suite upgrades are not known until the day of checkin. We would be back at least once a month this winter if we knew the work/school combo would work for us. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Pros: Location within walking distance of Newport attractions, shopping, and restaurants; clean, comfortable guest rooms. Cons: Can get pricey (therefore parking shouldn't be an additional cost); mattress a little softer than preferred. In planning our first Newport, Rhode Island weekend, I'd considered less expensive hotel options a few miles away before deciding it would be best to stay close to everything and not have to deal with finding parking. The hotel's daily parking fee isn't unreasonable but considering the property charges a lot for a nice (but not spectacular) room, it would have been nice for parking to have been included in the overall cost. Indeed, the guest rooms are pleasant with a modest nautical theme and gorgeous water views, but the main selling point is being within walking distance of countless stores and restaurants, as well as many of the things one might want to do while in Newport. Not much is beyond a ten-minute stroll, making it unnecessary to drive anywhere except maybe an entrance to the Cliff Walk. We were comfortable in our room that was typical of other Marriott-branded properties- a useful amount of storage, an excellent shower, and a large wall-mounted television. The only major complaint was the king bed being a little less firm that we prefer (and are used to at Marriott properties). While we may be tempted to trim costs next time we're in the area, we'll more than likely return to the Newport Marriott for its convenience. There's definitely something to be said for being close to nearly everything, as well as seeing it's a property we can count on being reliable.

We arrived at this hotel on a Friday night after checking out of the disgusting dirty Viking hotel and was met by a warm and friendly welcome from the front desk person Shawn! He was so lovely and accommodating. We'd traveled all day and needed to get out of the Viking and he found us a room quickly so we could get to bed. Super clean, so close to everything, and totally met our expectations. Thank you Shawn for your kindness and great service.

Started with a very friendly bellman who explained valet parking wasn’t currently offered due to COVID-19. We self parked after checking in and garage elevator goes right to each floor. He even brought ice to our room and remembered our name two days later. Check in was fast, friendly and informative. We felt the hotel, room and dining areas were extremely clean. That evening we chose the Skiff Bar/Restaurant for a Lobster Roll. We asked for the version with butter rather than celery and mayonnaise. Served on a toasted bun it contained mostly claws with a few knuckles and was probably one of the best we as native New Englanders ever had. Be sure to have one. Although located within walking distance of many restaurants we also had three breakfasts in the Mainsail dining room with a great harbor view. It’s menu had something for everyone. The four of us had such items as homemade corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, French toast and omelettes. One, a lobster omelette is to die for and shouldn’t be missed. Our waitresses, Joyce and Marie plus the host provided top notch service.
