We have stayed at this location many times in the past but never while it was Gurneys. I grew up in RI and this part of Newport (Goat island) is one of my favorites. We have always wanted to stay in the waterfront balcony rooms but we weren't willing to pay the $700/night fee. Since it was my wifes birthday we decided to book the Narragansett Waterview King Balcony room (which was the only balcony category available). We were on the third floor, and the view was spectacular, a full 180 view from Fort Adams to the bridge. Yes, the room & balcony were a worn, but the view made up for it. The Narrangansett rooms are at the back of the resort (50 ft from water) , along the service rd (not the best, so the higher up the better). We thought the resort is still a very special place, great outside restaurant, pool area and amazing views. I did take some photos of the other ocean view rooms with balconies, which looked good but were not as close to the water as Narrangansett section. Finally, the staff were all great and helped make this a special celebration. Check out the Marina Pub & Cafe down the rd. for a fun outside bar scene!

We were sailing in the area and wanted to stop for a couple nights in Newport. Gurney’s was amazing! From Shawn and Cole at the dock who helped us find a slip to Eric and Luke at the front desk to David the GM of the resort for five years — they were so welcoming and friendly and responsive! Super nice property. Highlights were the views of the sailboat races in the Narragansett, walking to town for shopping and dinner — it’s a great location. They have bikes too. They also have live music at the weekends. Crispy chicken sandwich by the pool is delicious and they make excellent lattes at the coffee shop. We had a great room with a pretty view. Thank you Gurney’s! 👍👍

It is very expensive for what it is. They appear to have purchased the property and put virtually now money into making it nicer or justifying the upcharge for the Gurney’s name. The room is outdated and feels like a generic Holiday Inn room. There were bugs ain the room and mold in the bathtub. This was a very disappointing experience; I would advise anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere. What a disappointment.

Dock Master Sean is the best! He and his team at the marina always go above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Gurney's Marina is our first choice for dockage while sailing in Newport.

The location is spectacular, the grounds are beautiful, loved the hydrangea, paths, fire pits, pool. Views of the Narragansett Bay and Newport Bridge are stunning. The Pineapple Cafe staff aim to please & serve poolside. So many wonderful attributes until you get to the rooms…ugh. Very old rooms & sorely in need of serious maintenance & updates. Not worth the gurney’s sticker price - rooms are equivalent to budget roadside motels not resort pricing. During our 3-night stay we had to change rooms 3 x. The first night - we discovered windows did not open so no fresh air. The room needed airing out it was unclean, stained chair, tattered curtains, broken light - stale smell. Terrible night. The next night we moved to a room below - ground floor - windows opened, room was fresh, nothing was broken, we enjoyed a good night sleep in a comfortable while outdated no frills room. Call it “glamping” a room with wonderful water views. On the 3rd night we were awakened at midnight by the sound of a slow leak that turned into flooding from a broken pipe. We jumped out of bed quickly packed our suitcases & made it out fast before anything short-circuited in the room. We were given accommodations in the Narragansett section of the hotel - slightly larger room with a porch that looked out onto the back of the hotel ie pretty much a parking lot. We slept so-so. The good news? The managers were apologetic and comped the 3rd night and offered additional discounting. Sticker price lower. But I would be afraid to return - maybe when all the rooms are renovated will be the right time to take gurney’s Newport seriously!

Not worth the money. We paid $800 per night for a water view with a balcony. The room had a fly / Kmart issue, peeling paint, and a leak in the bathroom. After many complaints - I recieved $ off and a bottle of wine. Still not worth it. Staff was ok. Not overly helpful except for Leilani at the front desk - she was lovely and helpful. Pool was ok. We had a cabana one day. Not worth the price. No ammenties in the cabana. No sundry / coffee shop open after 2pm. Bars closed early. We have been to the Sagamore and The Cliff House and paid close to the same nightly rate - and there is zero comparison. The location is wonderful. It’s a shame they can’t make this hotel a true resort.

5 star prices for an outdated and poorly managed hotel that was just purchased by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust on June 24,2022. Arrived for a 3 night stay and told I would be notified by text when room was ready but never notified and not given any reason once I checked in at the desk after 4 pm At check-in was not informed that you needed reservations for breakfast every morning or any info about the free shuttle into town and how frequently it runs The room was clean but definitely needed an upgrade No counter space for toiletries in the bathroom, the hotel bathrobe they provided was stained ? Self tanner? (Not sure what the stain was),the bathroom door would not close at all because it was out of alignment, very limited closet space, maid service for only 1 day and room was small for $922 per night after resort fees and room tax added to room charge. Had lunch and breakfast at Showfish The breakfast was ok but waitress clearly overwhelmed and waited for salt and pepper, sugar no spoon for coffee it was a gong show! Didn’t attempt to go to the pool which was totally overcrowded and lounge chairs were in rows with very little room between chairs The hotel had plenty of potential and it’s located on a great property with amazing views! Hopefully the new owners will start renovating and updating guest rooms, lobby and pool area. Hire more staff and train the current staff to provide better service to their guest

They were able to check me in just before 1p despite check in beginning at 4p, which was spectacular. It took me a while to find my room; I had to make my way behind the restaurant, down a flight of steps, outside, past a few rooms, inside, and around the corner. The location was perfectly between the two restaurants so that worked well, but if we wanted to leave, it took some time to make it out and to the car. When I did arrive, I dropped off my stuff, and popped back outside for a quick call. I came back and the door would not open. I made my way back to the front desk, they called a service person, I went back to the room and waited 15 minutes. No show. So I sat by the water with just my phone and key, then went back an hour later and the door worked. We had lunch at the Pineapple Club. The food was delightful but it did take at least 30 minutes to get chips and salad. We weren’t in a rush anyway. We went to dinner there, too, and it was the same menu. We asked for the chips as an app but they came with our meal (and a million fries) and so we didn’t get a chance to eat them. Lovely time at the fire pits then we went back to our room. One used the toilet and it clogged. Called the front desk. They said they’d send someone. 22 minutes passed, we called again and someone came immediately. Once we all finished cleaning up for the night, one of the light switches was broken and we needed pliers to turn it off. For the price we paid, I was shocked at the state of our room (photo of bathroom vanity). The next day, they were able to serve avocado toast on gluten free bread and find me a side of berries at lunch. Plus they were great asking about allergies. Location was perfect and views were Devine. However, I would not go back.

We came to RI to visit my sister and she suggested a day in Newport. We did the sightseeing thing and decided to get get dinner at Gurneys. We ate at Pineapples. We were served by Cheryl who was so nice and had such a big personality. She helped to take pictures and knew just how to position us so the photos would turn out great. The view from our table at sunset was beautiful. We then went into the hotel to visit the gift shop. When I went to pay, we were greeted by Luc, another amazing member of the Gurneys team. He chatted with us for a bit and really showed genuine interest in the conversation. I will definitely come here again the next time I come to RI.

Honestly, do not stay here. I was in town for one night with my young son and I wanted to stay at a hotel with a pool. Having been to Gurney's in Montauk to dine and hang out at the firepits, I assumed that the hotel quality would be great. I don't mind spending on a good hotel, it's a splurge I enjoy, but this looks like a budget motel in the rooms and because of that felt gross. It is clear that Gurney's purchased this hotel and made no changes except to put the firepits outside because the rooms are outdated, the bathrooms had mold and old grout and the furnishings are all chipped and not good looking. It really was quite appalling especially for $800 per night. I couldn't get out fast enough and was thankful it was just for the night. It's too bad because the pool is cute and the outdoor area looks nice but that can't make up for a gross bathroom. See pics attached. Also, you can really hear people walking around above you. My travel agent had told me not to expect much but I specifically asked to stay there so my son could have a pool for the day while in town but he really was correct. This place needs a gut. If I still had young kids that needed a bath v. shower, I would not be excited to fill up that tub.
