There were other guests in the lobby asking for their rooms to be changed, so this seems to be a problem...

    When my wife and I arrived at the resort at 15:45 we were informed that our room was unavailable, it was currently being cleaned. At 16:15 we enquired again whether our room was available, one receptionist said it was still being cleaned, another receptionist who I was led to believe was a supervisor said she would get cleaners into the room straight away... The room was of a decent size strangely laid out with the closet in the bathroom... The room itself looked to have been refurbished but the bathroom only partly refurbished as the bath / shower and tiles were old... Cleaning is clearly an issue in this resort as there was lots of detritus on the floor in guest room corridors...

The staff is friendly and tries hard to please guests within the limits of the property... One thing is sure, this hotel is overpriced, especially on weekends...

The website advertises the suite to sleep 6, the pull out couch was very uncomfortable and should not have been included as a bed...     ...After speaking with a manager who claimed nothing could be done at first, we were moved to the renovated portion of the hotel which was in a better state than the prior rooms, but it’s clear that overall maintenance is lacking, as the furniture on the deck also had a mold problem... Service at the restaurant was also subpar... We were finally seated after asking to speak with a manager, but the food (overpriced) took forever, most entrees came out cold, water glasses were left empty...

    ...They were unable to locate our reservation which was booked through Hotwire resulting in an 1.5 hour check in process. Their "off property" booking staff through the hotel was immediately able to find the reservation and confirm our booking, however it apparmently was not showing up on the reception desk end... The receptionist Luc/Rose tried really hard to fix the problem and was kind but her manager Freddie was rude and useless... He needs to take a course in hospitality... After 1.5 hours of trying to check in they still could not confirm our reservation on-site so they said they would use my credit card to make a reservation while they worked on the issue further... Due to the very long check in process I was late for my own rehearsal dinner... Additionally there were $200 in charges to our room that were incorrect... They assured me they would refund the $1500 fee... So now I again need to take time out of my busy day to once again fix this issue...

    ...Bad staff: Staff had no idea what they were doing... My group had a travel agent book a sunset cruise tour weeks in advance, and when we arrived at the hotel, they could not find the reservation and would not help tracking it down... We were met with "we do not have anything here, so I am not sure what to tell you"... Eventually the manager found the boat, but the boat did not have a driver... After about an hour after we were to take off, the manager told us that he found the driver and pointed to the port where we would leave... Restaurants: Just know everything will take 3x as long... Ordering a drink takes about an hour... Food was quick, but if you needed anything else, know your server will not be checking in on you until it is time to close out...

    Newport Harbor Island Resort has a few perks that makes it our only choice when we go to Newport every year. It is a beautiful resort with very attentive staff... It has a great outdoor pool and we love the water & van shuttles they have to take their guests into town... Water pressure in the shower was pretty low... And one night the dinner service was very slow but it usually isn’t...

    ...It is our number one reason for choosing this hotel. However, the website is out of date and the dog bed and bowls which they say will be provided don’t exist ... When I asked for a water bowl or take-away dish because we forgot my dog’s water bowl at home I was told they didn’t have any and was offered a bottle of water... We were able to pick one up in town... We were greeted by Godfrey (spelling may be incorrect)who is awesome and always had a smile on his face... It was very easy to get our cars in and out to go into town... The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries and towels... There was also a small refrigerator and Nespresso in the room which we appreciated... The room/bathroom were clean and comfortable with a great view of the Newport bridge... We will definitely return especially since we can bring our small dog...

    ...When we got there they gave us key to a room that was already taken. They did get us into another room immediately.I used valet parking... The valet driver who was also the bellboy did not give me my valet number so I had to track it down... However after that the valet service was excellent... When we were in our 2nd room the toilet stopped filling the up... Luckily I jiggled the shutoff valve and the toilet filled up... The maid service did not do our room automatically.for 2 out the three days 3 days we needed it ... Twice we had to go to the front desk and ask them... The bar service was very good and we did eat lunch one afternoon which was very good... I'm giving the hotel an excellent rating because I felt they were able to meet our needs when we asked...

    Hospitality at Newport Resort is by far the best in town!!! Leilani took care of us at the front desk and we felt so welcomed and safe in her hands... Leilani was the kindest most accommodating hotel clerk I have ever encountered and hope management takes note and takes care of such an amazing employee representing the resort… Although the hotel itself feels a little outdated the views are still spectacular and they are clearly making an effort to update for the summer as there was construction going on during our stay... The staff was just so wonderful and I plan on returning soon...

    When my wife and I arrived at the resort at 15:45 we were informed that our room was unavailable, it was currently being cleaned. At 16:15 we enquired again whether our room was available, one receptionist said it was still being cleaned, another receptionist who I was led to believe was a supervisor said she would get cleaners into the room straight away... The bed was comfortable and the room noise free... The free shuttle into Newport was an unexpected bonus... Basic maintenance and cleaning were poor, advertised amenities not available, couple this with staff who lie to their guests means that I cannot recommend this resort...

    Freddie was so helpful to us - when we checked in and throughout our visit. We had a fantastic view of the harbor from our room... Freddie even helped us find a parking spot in the parking lot!... It’s great that they have live music outside every day and a mix of seating options outside - by the pool, on the water, etc...

    Newport Harbor Island Resort has a few perks that makes it our only choice when we go to Newport every year. It is a beautiful resort with very attentive staff... It has a great outdoor pool and we love the water & van shuttles they have to take their guests into town... There is a great vibe on their multi level back deck, fire pits, daybeds scattered on the lawn, great food at their restaurants and often live music at night... Water pressure in the shower was pretty low... It is also on the pricey side but I do think you get a lot of value for your money here...

    Pros- The atmosphere was comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable... You can reserve Watertaxi to go to Downtown... Shuttles go through every 30 an hour... We did not get complimentary toothed paste, toothbrush, slippers or robe... Make sure when booking to check for complimentary breakfast... The sliding door to patio was hard to open...

    Upon arrival the bellman didn’t walk out to ask if we needed help with bags. We hauled our large suitcases inside to be told the bellman could help... There were 2 towels in the room, a single pillow per person on the beds, although this was rectified quite quickly...

Our room, #1324, had views of the water, the bridge and the lighthouse that’s literally right on the property!...     My wife and I noticed the resort as we were crossing over the Claiborne Pell Bridge. Everything at the resort was top notch and very convenient... From the staff at The Restaurant, the ice skating area, the valet, the bar, front desk and cleaning staff were all very friendly and very professional...     ...The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work properly, guess what happens to clothes in the closet when the extractor doesn’t work? The bed was comfortable and the room noise free... The free shuttle into Newport was an unexpected bonus... Both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools were closed, this was one of the reasons this resort was chosen... This was a major issue for my wife, if we had known that the pools were closed we would have chosen another hotel...

We were sailing in the area and wanted to stop for a couple nights in Newport. Gurney’s was amazing! From Shawn and Cole at the dock who helped us find a slip to Eric and Luke at the front desk to David the GM of the resort for five years — they were so welcoming and friendly and responsive! Super nice property. Highlights were the views of the sailboat races in the Narragansett, walking to town for shopping and dinner — it’s a great location. They have bikes too. They also have live music at the weekends. Crispy chicken sandwich by the pool is delicious and they make excellent lattes at the coffee shop. We had a great room with a pretty view. Our room was very nice with a great view. We had a problem with a very noisy heater in the room. We called and it was fixed right away. The maid service was very good. I would love to come back in the summer and get to use the outdoor pool.

Given that we were staying here 2 days before they were closing for an apparent full renovation, it was better than expected. It certainly is in need of freshening up, but the staff (despite being out of jobs in 2 days...explained to us as layoff w/o guarantee of re-employment...which did make us feel badly) was very cordial and helpful. Loved being able to get a latte in the lobby each morning w/o waiting in a mile long Starbuck's line!...can certainly see where this hotel is ready to be the gem, rather than hidden gem it has been....stayed here 2 years ago as a Gurneys and could tell quick coats of paint, etc were used to freshen up, but needs to be stripped to the bones and re-invented...hopefully that is the plan...

The shower was very impressive with amazing pressure. It was like a pressure washer! The food at our function was very good. The room was very nice, but the tv channel selection was modest for local channels and news. The bedding comforter was very comfy, but it was tucked in at the foot too much and it resulted in being too short. Coffee maker did not work in-room. The outdoor area was impressive; I could see it as very nice in Spring & Summer. The bay views were very nice. The parking was very confusing upon arrival for a first time visitor. The signage could be better. The entire facility has an odd design and looks more industrial than resort or hotel.

The location and position of the hotel are its strongest assets being situatef on the water and yet within walking distance of a fabulous town for shopping and restaurants. The employees were very pleasant, professional and cheery. The accommodations and hotel systems, such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical, however, are in need of a major update, but I would go back for two more years until the popular hotel is renovated.

I had a good time because I was with my church group. The rooms are ok, but I requested an oceanview and got a parking lot view. The closet was in the bathroom, and that was crazy. The food in the dining room was expensive,and not good. I got a hamburg and it was extremely over salted. and for $21.00, it should have been cooked much better than that. The calamari was good though. The staff, however, was very nice.
