The Francis Malbone House is an experience. It offers a warm welcome with an elegant backdrop. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with such enthusiasm. Truly, the entire building smells like bacon and freshly baked sweets from the breakfast served hours before. Their courtyard will be blooming with wisteria and hydrangea in a few months, but we were happy to enjoy the sunshine while seated at a small table. The sitting rooms are beautifully staged. The room we stayed in, even at its most modest price, was absolutely gorgeous. Exceptionally clean and comfortable. The jazz music playing is a nice touch too. The staff will bend over backwards to assist you. The afternoon tea and breakfast are not to be missed. Sweet and savory items made in-house allow you to barely leave the property except for dinner. The location on Thames is perfect for you to explore the entire harbor area, walking no more than 10 minutes to any restaurant or store. All in all, if you can afford it, the Francis Malbone House is the perfect Newport getaway and is sure to deliver above and beyond! Can’t wait to go back!…
Another perfect visit! First the elephant in the room - vacation in the time of covid. I have taken the crisis seriously since the get-go and been meticulous the entire lockdown period. Zero socializing, zero outings, no visitors, double masks and gloves at the supermarket. We only get in the elevator in our apt building if we can ride by ourselves (which means trips for the mail can sometimes take all afternoon!). I am not playing around with this stuff. However, my summer getaway to Malbone is a tradition and I couldn't bear to skip it this year. I saw from their emails updates that they too were focused on safety so I decided to stick with my visit. All concerns about safety evaporated the minute I walked in the door. They had wipes and hand sanitizer (the strong stuff!) right at the door, of which I eagerly availed myself having come from outside. These were provided throughout the inn and you could wipe down/disinfect to your heart's content. The inn has always been very clean but now it is IMMACULATE, as other readers have noted. Scrubbed to perfection. The guests while I was there were all safety minded and no one had to be reminded to wear a mask. Extreme social distancing is possible at all times. Most people in Newport were also wearing masks and those who weren't were easily avoided. There is plenty to do that is safe and outside. Did all these precautions make it feel like a vacation in a sterile syfy movie? Not at all. It was still a complete paradise escape. The pleasure and relaxation was not dented at all. The breakfasts and tea were as lavish and delicious as ever and it is possible to enjoy hours in the beautiful garden safely. I look forward to the time when afternoon tea can once again be served in splendor on the dining room table but for now, the good stuff is all still there to dazzle and delight and the food is served behind a very safe partition. You can still sample everything. Location of inn is perfect - a hidden, peaceful gem on the inside and when you open the dor, downtown Newport at your feet. It is absolutely worth it to go - you will still enjoy. Everyone at the inn is wonderful. Seems only people with perfect personalities work there. If there is anything they can do to make your stay feel more safe or more enjoyable, they will. I usually ask for the same list of things every year in connection with the room I have. This year I forgot a couple and the amazing folks who run the place and work there still saw to it that those details were attended to as well - they reminded me what I liked! They are running a fabulous summer 2020 special and with the value of food thrown in and central location where you can walk to most places, it is an incredible deal. Go with friends or family, spouses or partner or even on your own (let's face it, lockdown after a while can be hard even when it comes to your most nearest and dearest). However you do your trip, you will love it!…
My husband and I spent three incredible days here celebrating our 30th anniversary!!! We had an amazing experience at this lovely inn. The place is charming, the hosts are warm, friendly, accommodating, and gracious!!!! The food is delicious and plentiful. The inn is immaculate. We will come back for sure!!!! I highly recommend staying at this spectacular place!!!!
The Malbone House definitely needs to be on everyone's list of places to visit! We just spent a three day getaway there, and as in the past, the place did not disappoint! We already have reservations for our next visit! It is where I love to go when I need a lift or want to be pampered! The Malbone House is without a doubt the cleanest Inn, B&B or Lodge that we have ever been in. Some of the rooms have been recently refurbished and they look wonderful. The entire staff there is professional, helpful, friendly and engaging. We had some wonderful conversation with several of them. A special thank you to Sue, Maryellen and Kevin! It feels more like home and family than just a place to stay. Everyone is there to make you comfortable and special! The food was beyond delicious both at breakfast and tea time. There just are not words to say how amazing we feel about this Inn! It is a beautiful refuge right in the heart of Newport.. within walking distance of many fine restaurants! We just can't say enough... Thank to you, Will and your staff! Donna & Ray…
Absolutely enjoyable time! Loved the room, the service and the hospitality of every staff member! A real gem!! My husband and I were celebrating our first anniversary and the staff made it very memorable.
I really do not know where to begin! Upon arrival, Suzanne greeted us like we were family and had our luggage taken up to our room. We were then shown around by MaryEllen who was. also, so warm and welcoming. The room(s) was beautifully appointed as was the entire inn. Breakfast and afternoon tea were a delicious treat! Thank you for an amazing weekend and looking forward to our next visit!
From top to bottom, this place will satisfy all your tastes. The breakfast consists of a help-yourself table of muffins, pastries, yogurts, and sweets-then comes a hot breakfast. Just when your breakfast is digested is afternoon tea which has assortments of sweets and eats. The bed is ultra-comfy and the room is quiet. We met the owner, Will, he seemed proud of his place, and rightly so. The staff was friendly and happy. We own a B&B also, it was nice seeing a great place!
This was a wonderful experience! The rooms and the inn are beautifully appointed. To sit in front of a roaring fire, partaking in the generous tea service is an event not to be missed. The owners and staff are very attentive to every need. The bountiful breakfast is absolutely delicious and served in an elegant setting in the dining room. We will return for sure!
Such a warm & welcoming place! The Inn is beautifully appointed & they can’t do enough to make you feel at home! Will &MaryEllen are so helpful with dinner recommendations &local holiday activities. Each time we visit we can’t wait to return!
