I don’t know where to begin!?
The Armistead Cottage is both charming and quirky. There is so much to visually take in and savor. It is warm and welcoming and IMMACULATE!!
Our host Charles was gracious, knowledgeable, interesting, attentive, entertaining and an amazing cook. Our breakfasts were incredible, beautifully presented and delicious … a real epicurean delight every morning.
Our room was clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful large shower with great water pressure and almost instantaneous hot water.
The Armistead Cottage is situated in a pristine and quiet neighborhood. You can easily stroll to First Beach and the beginning of the Cliff Walk. The Mansions, the Tennis Hall of Fame, Boutiques and a variety of great restaurants are only minutes by car. In my opinion, this area has a more laid back vibe than the hustle and bustle found along Thames Street and the Wharfs … which is also quickly accessed by car.
My partner and I spent a lot of time on the expansive front porch. We would enjoy our second cups of morning coffee and tea on the porch swing as we planned our days adventures. We invited our friends over for some porch time with nibbles and a tipple or two. They were as impressed with Armistead Cottage as we were.
I hope that I didn’t leave anything out!!
I highly recommend that you consider Armistead Cottage when planning a visit to Newport. We have stayed in other very nice Newport accommodations but they were just that, ‘a stay’. We would describe our visit to Armistead Cottage as a pampered and relaxing ‘experience’ and one that we look forward to repeating soon. We plan to bring our bicycles with us on our next visit so that we can explore as many of the astonishingly beautiful nearby neighborhoods as possible.

We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely B&B for 2 nights last week. We were warmly greeted by Charles, the innkeeper, who immediately made us feel very welcomed and showed us around. There is a delightful front porch with several comfortable places to sit and read, enjoy a cup of tea or just listen to the birds.
Inside there was a lovely living room, gorgeous dining room and a little kitchenette where there was a refrigerator stocked with various sodas and bottles of water. And quite a unique collection of carrot everything!!
Up a flight of stairs to the three guest rooms where we found our lovely 4 poster king bed, good size bathroom and lots of closet space with extra pillows and blankets (if needed).
A delicious breakfast was made and served by Charles and Tanya (his helper). Charles asked about food allergies before we arrived and everything was perfect! One morning he made grilled peaches with just a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon, followed by 2 kinds of brioche and then one morning scrambled eggs with toast and artfully arranged strawberries and blueberries as well as coffee, tea and juice! The following morning he served grilled bananas, I had blueberry yogurt and a frittata.
The B&B also has plenty of parking included in the room rate.
Not a far walk from the famous cliff walk and an easy drive into the center of town and the beaches.
Charles could not have been more gracious, kind and helpful.
A delightful stay in a beautiful home!

Charles met us as we pulled into the drive and immediately made us feel welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed having a cup of tea on the front porch before breakfast and then Charles’ great breakfasts. His depth of knowledge about things to do and places to eat in Newport really made our visit one of our best vacations. The cottage is well maintained and kept spotless. We especially liked the convenient location and being able to walk to downtown. After a full day of activity, the front porch was a great place to relax in the evening with lots of birds singing and almost no traffic on the street. We probably won’t get back to Newport until next year but are looking forward to another visit.

This was our first trip to Newport. Thank you Charles for such a warm and informative greeting upon arrival. He had many suggestions on places to go and where to find the best restaurants. The house itself was truly amazing! So many antique collections scattered about. The Lilac Room was a pleasure to stay in. Large with a clean, private bathroom, toiletries, and a shower with great water pressure. The queen size bed was comfortable and cozy. Breakfast was a great time, sharing the table with other guests. The service and breakfasts made were wonderful! All attractions and restaurants were in walking distance or a short car ride away! We highly recommend the Armistead!

The reason my husband and I continue to return to Newport is to stay at Armistead Cottage. This was our 7th stay within the past 6 years. Charles and Romana are two of the kindest, most amazing people we have ever met. Although the drive from our home can range from 7 1/2 to 11 hours, depending on traffic and accidents, it is definitely worth it. Charles and Romana make every trip special! We visited in December and the house was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The breakfasts are scrumptious and keep us full until supper. Romana and Charles always know the perfect places to go. Because of them, our 2 favorite restaurants are in the Newport area. We look forward to returning soon!

Ramona and Charles were such gracious hosts. We were greeted with a map of Newport, ideas of fun things to do in town, and a tour of the house. We got to see the carrot museum and all of the amazing stained glass artwork throughout the home as well. The porch is a great place to sit, relax, and listen to the birds. Breakfast was absolutely incredible. Food was very very good. Charles also allowed us to park at the property after check out so we can do the cliff walks nearby. I highly recommend armistead cottage to others!

I just returned from spending three glorious nights at the Armistead Cottage. I highly recommend it. The bed was comfortable and the Carrot Room is something that must be seen to believe. The Innkeeper, Charles, was so welcoming and gracious. We spent three glorious nights there and from the peaceful front porch to the delicious breakfast each day, everything was just perfect. It is located in a quiet residential area about a 6 or 7 minute drive to Thames Street and the Mansions.

An outstanding location, a very nice room and a reasonable price made this the perfect place to stay while we were in Williamsburg. We were just three blocks away from entering historical Williamsburg. The inn was quaint, quiet and well-managed. Rhys, the onsite manager, was very helpful to us and went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this property!

Charming and convenient. Charles is amusing, accommodating and informative. Comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast. Location is perfect for Cliff Walk and town. Came for the Seafood festival. Next time we'll see more of the city.

We hate to be negative, but since we always rely on Trip Advisor's reviews for choosing our B&B we feel as if we have to tell what our stay was like.. First, I'll start with the positives. This B&B was spotless! And the location is in a very quiet neighborhood close to Cliff walk, and it is also walkable (although a bit far in the heat of the day) to the wharf area. Now for the negatives. When we first arrived, we were told by Ramona that she was not a morning person and not to expect breakfast until 9 o'clock. Most B&B's will advise when breakfast is served but coffee and juice are available earlier and cereals are provided if you want to leave early to explore your vacation spot.. After having to wait for Ramona to get up, the food was terrible even though she told us she only cooked "gourmet". The main entree was 1egg that was over cooked, served with 1 piece each of toasted white bread-served without jams or jelly. It was supplemented with a small muffin and a small serving of fruit. She told us what she thought was a funny story about an elderly guest who arrived at the breakfast table on his second morning with a box of his own cereal. After the first breakfast that we had, the anecdotal story made perfect sense. And needless to say, we didn't stick around for breakfast number 2. The rooms contained no shampoo, conditioner or lotion-things that we hadn't packed since all other b&b's we have gone to provided these items. We had one small bar of soap, which we ran out of since we had to use it for shampoo, showers, etc. It was difficult to get more since Ramona had left for the day. I guess great b&b's are in the small touches, so not having napkins to go with our late afternoon glass of wine (we certainly were'nt going to buy them!) just added to our frustration.
Maybe this is a great b&b for weekends, but for our mid week visit, it left much to be desired.

It was about a 15 - 20 minute walk into the town. Just a 5 min car ride without traffic.
