We where in town for the annual Newport Jazz festive and our stay at Murray House Bed and Breakfast was the perfect location for the 10 minute drive to Fort Adams State Park were the festive is held.
The room was quaint and private with a sun porch, our own balcony with a view of the pond. Lots of rest and relaxation at Murray house when we wanted it as the neighborhood is very peaceful. The Cliff Walk and Bailey beach are a 10 minutes walk at the most and the swim and lazing at the beach were wonderful. We used the in-ground swimming pool and hot tub daily.
There's lots to do in Newport other than the festive and we took full advantage of being close to most all of those activities. Visits to downtown were easy, Mansions where close by and Ocean Ave starts close to the property so a bike or car ride along the coast was most enjoyable.
Thank you Noreen for a wonderful getaway at your lovely B&B!

You sure do have a way with words Tom! I could tell that the minute you told me about the toilet that would not stop running. Good thing you did, my plumber said it was about to crack. The toilet basin that is. I had to replace the whole tank. Thanks to you if wasn't a catastrophe and it was fixed before that happened. Turning off the tank was the key. Which I did thanks to you. On the plus side you were such great guests. I was so happy to have you. Marion left the room spotless and if she had a vac, that would have been done too. :) Your tip to my hard working cleaning girl was very generous and well received and well needed. A tip is an appreciation of a job well done. I pay her a cleaning fee. I don't pay her a tip. That is up to the guest if they are happy with the room and the extra sanitizing done for their visit. You would be surprised that some people think the cleaning fee charge covers a tip. It doesn't. $ 25 doesn't cover much. You tip was so sweet! I can't thank you enough for her. For you to come back would be my pleasure in more ways than one! Bless you! Cheers, Noreen

My husband and I stayed at Murray House when we visited Newport to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. We were a bit nervous to travel in the time of Covid, however I'm happy to report the B&B was spotless. We were also given the option to bring our own linens if we were more comfortable, however we chose to use what was provided and never doubted our choice. Every room in the B&B has it's own private outside entrance, with a sitting area to enjoy the beautiful Newport evenings. We had the Poolside Veranda room and my husband and I enjoyed our breakfasts and a dinner sitting on our comfortable private deck. Loved it! Inside the room the bed was super comfortable, the bathroom and room itself was large and fully appointed with all you need. Believe it or not, there was also a kitchenette in the room! Fridge, stove top, microwave, sink, dishes, table and chairs. Everything you need to make yourself a meal if you don't feel like going out. Outside your room is a pool and hot tub - both clean and refreshing after visiting the beach, which is only a 5 minute walk away from the B&B. The owner, Noreen, was extremely responsive and friendly. The pre-arrival was handled by email and was clear and easy to understand. If there's any issues or questions Noreen answers your emails almost instantly. In person, she's friendly and a wealth of information about Newport. Overall, we highly recommend Murray House and can't wait for our next visit to Newport and when we go we definitely will be staying at this Bed & Breakfast.

The Murray House is lovely. A perfect place if you like quiet but also be in the heart of town. We were minutes away from the Cliff Walk and the Beach. It was a great morning walk. Murray House is also minutes away from the Mansions and to so many great restaurants. Noreen was so helpful, patient and knowledgeable. She gave us wonderful restaurant recommendations. Loved the themed decorated room, the kitchenette was well stocked with snacks, drinks and breakfast items. Oh and the gardens and pool was such a wonderful plus.

Please be advised that if you stay at this dirty place and offer a positive review on this site you will get a free night! So much for the credibility herein. The previous guest’s dirty clothes greeted me as I checked in as they were left in the drawer. The coffee t maker had not been cleaned and the coffee filter from the prior guest was still there. Breakfast is no longer provided due to covid ( I thought it was finished) but they have lots of junk from Garbage Tree (Dollar Tree) in a basket. If you need another towel there is nobody in sight to give it to you. The hair dryer in the room does not work…There is no wifi and the lighting in the room is so dim that you cannot read. Do you want to know about the strong smell from mold and mildew? This place needs help and I would stay away.

This woman tried to leave without paying. I had to chase her down. She promised to leave a check for her stay. She lied and said she did, but there was no check. I was able to run her CC, so I was paid. I get high ratings for cleanliness, so ignore what she is saying. All this came out when she realized she had to pay for her stay.

We attended a wedding at nearby Rosecliff and stayed for 3 nights at this quiet, well-appointed b&b. Noreen greeted us along with her cat Max and made us feel at home immediately. We enjoyed the hot tub, koi pond and gardens. It was a bit too cold for the pool but it was very clean, maybe next stay! The room was clean and comfy. The electric fireplace warmed the room quickly and the kitchenette was stocked with butter, creamers, coffee, a great selection of teas, and dishes, pots and pans. We will definitely be returning for another stay.

My husband John and I came here for our third wedding anniversary. We take a weekend trip every year on our anniversary over Columbus Day weekend and we were not disappointed during our stay here at Murray House bed and breakfast. The amenities are wonderful with heated pool, hot tub and private social areas. You have quick and easy access to Ocean Avenue, the cliff walk and downtown Newport, the location of this bed and breakfast really can’t be beat. We lucked out with amazing weather and enjoyed bike riding around the coast and exploring the coastline. We were not able to interact with Noreen in person all that much because of the COVID-19 policies for safety, however she still managed to make us feel welcome in her home and she was immediately available via email throughout our weekend stay. The room was clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The care she takes in decorating her rooms and the care with which she tends her beautiful garden is evident. We can definitely see ourselves returning for another stay!

This was our 7th year visiting Murray House B&B and we we were a bit nervous traveling because of Covid-19 even though we know Noreen keeps a spotless place.( as an added precaution we were given the option to bring our own linens.) After our arrival thru our own private entrance we were very impressed that all the guests and staff were being responsible wearing masks if not at a social distance or on their own patio. Another great option in stead of going out to eat is that every room has a compact kitchenette to further help keep the virus at bay since you can prep and cook your own meals. All and All Murray house is secure and safe by design, made to be a safe haven for guests.

My partner and I spend 4 nights in the Garden Room to celebrate her birthday and to get some much needed R&R. A nor'easter was due to pass through on our first night and Noreen was kind enough to offer rescheduling our booking. We decided to brace the storm and keep our booking and we're both very thankful we did. Our cozy, well furnished lodging was a beautiful sights as we tried to stay dry brining our luggage in. Some may say the decor is dated, but my partner and I loved and appreciated the style. Every corner has a new surprise, whether it was the miniatures in the bedroom, to the snacks and tea left on our kitchenette counter, to the bidet seat which was an excellent touch to the roomy bathroom.

The next morning we explored the outside of our room, and even in the wind and rain we could see how special this place was. The garden and private patio was inviting and made me wish it were drier so that we could enjoy them more. I absolutely adored the koi pond. Every morning I would walk outside and bid the three large koi hello. Of course, the pool and hot tub area looked wonderful. I'm sure in the warmer weather we both would have taken advantage of it. We tried to use the hot tub during our stay but unfortunately the storm had knocked the power out. Noreen was deeply apologetic over this, but it was no fault of her own.

All in all, this picturesque locale helped make our stay as relaxing and ideal as we had hoped. This is definitely a stay worth the value, especially during the off season.

Anthony, What a great review, you sure have a way with words, and you appreciate the amenities. (smile) And I am so happy you mentioned the Koi pond, I do not tout it enough! You just did and the Koi are smiling. They really are beautiful! It was my pleasure to host you and your new fiance, proposed to at the Marble House, while you were here. (and she said yes) (another smile) An FYI for you, Anthony, Murray House also happens to sit on the same property used for the Marble House stables, in days of yore. How cool is that! Thanks again for staying with me!

1 Murray House B&B was incredible. The location is impeccable. Location is a moments walk to a “public” beach right off the Cliff Walk. I say “public” because there was approx 5 people/day on the beach. Beautiful beach for a relaxing day and the security allowed me to have my small dog on the beach! Murray House also has a pool and hot tub - this was perfect as our room (Pool Veranda) was right on the deck of the pool. Noreen was amazing and put up temporary gates on our room deck so my pup could be out on the deck freely while we enjoyed ourselves in the pool/ hot tub.

Murray House is also located about 10 minute Uber ride from downtown Newport // Wharf scenes. To be completely honest... I highly recommend staying away from the scene - especially if you want a relaxing get away! We walked on Coggeshall/ Spring Street all the way to the downtown area (1.5 miles) and it was a great and SAFE walk. When we didn’t feel like walking, we just hopped on the trolley or took a quick Uber.

I cannot recommend this place enough and will 100% be returning! The location, the amenities, the dog-friendly atmosphere... EVERYTHING was fantastic!!

10/10 recommend!

Wow! This is an awesome review! I can't thank you enough. But I will! Thank you again for this super review! So glad your pup was happy, makes my day that the dog was comfortable. Also like the fact that you knew how long a walk to Spring St from Murray House. 1.5 miles! Pretty good and hopping the trolley also good! I like to hear about the trolley, as it is an awesome feature that Newport has and only a 6 minute walk to the pick up point from Murray House. When will you be back? :)

Noreen is a gem and so is her B&B. The location was perfect and the room was spotless. Do be aware that because of the humidity, location and antique decor, there is a very strong musty/mildew odor. Noreen did have a dehumidifier running, however, if you have allergies as I do, it was difficult to breathe and so I did limit my time in the room. The property itself is beautifully maintained and wonderful for just relaxing by the pool. Thank you for the hospitality! I loved Newport and look foreword to visiting again.

I must clarity this review. Some things are above my control., but only if you don't do your research. This guest did not do her research. Newport is an Island, so there will be humidity problems on the lower island at all times. Murray House is very close to the pond and the beach. Like 5 minutes in either direction. This was explained to the guest in an email. That if she had any allergies in this regard, that this was not the place she should be staying in. I do not want people to be uncomfortable here, Not my MO. We have a very high table near the beach and pond. This also creates a moisture table. Also, I don't have antiques in the room. There is a bed with up to date coverlets and linens. and a modern oak table and 2 chairs for dining, a wooden bureau, and that is it. Antique? not really. Just kitchy and cute! The wall to wall carpet is replaced every 3 years for the dampness reason. It is also thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to the max each and every time a new booking comes in. The bathroom is a bathroom, not antique, the kitchenette unit is a mini kitchenette set up, neither old or new, so don't get that, but It's older, but would not contribute to a damp problem. I did ask this guest what she meant about antique decor, but received no answer. I did note that she said I love Newport and look forward to visiting again. I hope not here, I couldn't take another of her reviews.

Also time depends on the traffic. Weekends in the summer are generally busier and traffic getting downtown can be heavier.
