Travelers' Choice
Inspired by the insatiable wanderlust and rebellious spirit of Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, the historic downtown mansion once owned by the businessman and scion has been reinterpreted for the modern era as a lively and stylish social destination. From a secret bar tucked into a corner of the sumptuous Doris Duke-inspired parlor to the specially-commissioned series of mysterious and moody old world still lifes sprinkled throughout the foyer and lounge, the scene at The Vanderbilt is crackling with coastal curiosities and alluring eccentricities waiting to be discovered.

The hotel is located close to town and restaurants. We had breakfast in the outside garden area that was very good. They seemed to be under-staffed so it took a while but the servers worked well together to accommodate everyone. The staff in the hotel is friendly and accommodating. The room was clean but it needs pictures or paintings on the walls. Everything is very dark. Dark walls and drapes. The bathroom needs a shelf for toiletries and we had to ask for a small refrigerator. I think it is a work in progress and hopefully in time they will be more organized. The day before we left, we asked for an early check-out and for a bakery basket since we were leaving before the actual breakfast. They assured me it would be at the desk in the morning and it was not there. With a little organization and some rooms brighter this could be a great place to stay.

Wonderfully intimate and beautifully designed. The Vanderbilt is perfectly located to the many historical attractions in Newport, and the rooftop deck has one of the best views in town. We especially love sitting in the elegant parlor with a cocktail or cup of tea. Staff is exceptional. This resort is a New England gem.

The Vanderbilt was all that I could have asked for our first trip of the summer. The staff is so friendly and helpful with everything and we’re able to give great recommendations for activities or food! The restaurants at the hotel were so yummy and each had their own character and charm. The location though was my favorite thing. So close to everything we wanted to visit and made it easy to get to by walking. We can’t wait to come back! I would highly recommend.

I took my parents to Newport for their 50th wedding anniversary. We found the Vanderbilt Auberge online. What a beautiful place and so close to many restaurants and a short walk to the wharf. We ate in the main restaurant twice and the garden room once and out back by the pool once. I highly recommend the avocado toast for breakfast. We took advantage of so much. Mom and I got massages at the Spa, Randi was wonderful there providing my mom with advice for her chronic pain. We also did tarot readings, what fun! We stayed in a suite and it was large, I slept on the sleeper sofa while mom and dad had the bedroom. I did go to the pool, which was very nice and the heated showers there were especially nice. The best things about the hotel was the staff. It's a boutique hotel with 30 some rooms, everyone wanted to make sure we had a good time. The waiters, the staff that brought up our bags, the desk staff, and Morgan, the concierge. One day my dad and I went to the Breakers leaving Mom at the hotel, she spent time by the pool and inside the sitting areas and many of the staff stopped by to see if she needed anything. Everyone was so kind.

the location, rooms, food/bev, grounds and mostly the service...everything was truly wonderful. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy during our stay. The prenatal massage I received from Randi was magical and I wish we stayed longer just so I could have booked another one! Breakfast in the greenhouse was beautiful and the beds were super comfy. Overall we had a wonderful stay and thought this was an incredible value.

This hotel was fantastic from the start of my stay til the end! I'm very happy to have seen newly decorated lobby (or as they call it, The Library). So much history in one place! The food was excellent, and so were the beverages. The rooms were nice and clean, very chic too! Breakfast was very lovely, we were put in the sun room with glasses and plants. Service was impeccable, however the only problem I see is the Indian lady being a rude to her colleagues, which I know because she is loud. Aside from that, the other servers/bartender were fantastic.

This is a fabulous hotel. Charming and elegant. It combines old-world charm with updated conveniences. Our suite was perfect; the beds are so divine, it's hard to get out of them! The different lounging rooms are sumptuous. Everywhere in the resort is thoughtfully designed and truly lovely. Service from reception to dining and everything in between is exceptional. Elizabeth, the front office manager, was wonderfully attentive and helpful. For us, the location was perfect. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping area. We could not ask for anything more...Except for one thing, better (stronger) coffee. Their afternoon tea, however, is wonderful! I hope to return at least once or twice a year.
