Detailed Reviews
This was our first overnight trip to Newport, RI and we couldn't have been happier than to stay at the Almondy Inn. When we checked in the cookies just came out of the oven. My husband was thrilled with the cookies. While we were checking in we told John the InnKeeper the love we have for historical homes. In turn, he provided us with great insight on where to explore in the historical district, which we did the next day. Great recommendation! After unpacking ( the beautiful Lanai Suite), we went downstairs for the 5pm wine & cheese gathering which they have every night. While sipping our wine we had a wonderful conversation with the InnKeepers Laurence & John. They were very hospitable and friendly!! The breakfast at the Inn is beyond outstanding! Laurence makes from scratch various croissants, quiches, served with fresh fruit, OJ and bacon. Delicious!! The Inn itself was spotless & cozy and the location is right in the heart of downtown Newport. In addition, the Assistant Inn Keeper, Shelby was a pleasure to speak to at breakfast one morning. She was also great assisting us as we navigated the various light and fan switches. The other staff (sorry I didn't ask her, her name) was pleasant, & sweet. Overall, the stay at the Almondy Inn was a 5+++ Star. Definitely the place to stay when you are visiting Newport, RI.

Property's Favorite Review
When I walked through the door a little after 5:00 pm, I was greeted with "White or red?" I hadn't even checked in yet and already I was drawn into a circle of lively conversation and beautiful surroundings. The white was delicious. The innkeepers were knowledgeable and have pretty much figured everything out so you don't have to ask for anything. The building is spotless and the location couldn't be better. We were in the Sunset Room with its four poster bed, view of the harbor and a fireplace that impossibly increased the coziness of it all. To call the breakfasts gourmet is to do them an injustice. Home baked cookies in the afternoon and 5:00 drinks with crackers and cheese allowed me to live the genteel life I can never manage back home. In the right setting, there is a sparkle to the atmosphere, the surroundings, and even the people. Everyone is interesting and interested. The Almondy Inn is the right setting.

We stayed at the Almondy from Nov 24 to Nov 30 with our daughter as part of a bucket list trip, which consists of touring B&Bs in the major small towns across the Northeast.
This Almondy is from [very] far the best one out of the 26 B&Bs we have visited so far in 2024.
The inn is freshly renovated, unlike many dusty and old places we've experienced. It's also very reasonably priced, and the Innkeepers, Laurence and John, make you feel like family as soon as you step in.
The delicious and copious homemade breakfast setting makes you feel that you're in a Gilded Age mansion, and the daily evening wine and cheese is a thoughtful touch after a full day. Not everyone includes it for free.
Everything is located within a walkable distance or a short car drive which makes it an ideal location. The innkeepers' recommendations for visits or places to eat were always spot on.
This is definitely a place where we will be sending our friends, and we have already booked our early 2025 stay.
Thank you again for a memorable stay!

The Almondy Inn is such a warm, cozy and inviting Bed and Breakfast. The innkeepers John and Laurence are the nicest people and treated us like royalty. Laurence puts her heart into the little things that make this bed and breakfast a success. Her breakfasts which include not only a delicious meal like french toast and Eggs Benedict included fresh pastries, mimosas and sculpted fruit. She also prepares freshly baked chocolate chip cookies each day. She is warm, inviting, and you feel nestled in her care. You genuinely can sense how much love and effort she puts to make everyone feel at home while staying here. John is equally as inviting and attentive to his guests. He highlighted the areas for us to visit and eat while in Newport. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to him and the care that he took in serving us along with the friendly attendant at breakfast each morning. He also gives one hundred percent to make each guest feel welcomed. The wine and cheese hour each night is such a special touch to get to know all the other guests and the innkeepers on a more personal level. The Plantation Room where we slept had all the added necessities that one could think of including ear buds, makeup towels, robes, water, coffee.. the list could go on. The bed was super comfy. The view from the large windows gave us access to see the waterways of Newport. The bedroom was fresh and updated. The inn was also beautifully decorated for Christmas with a beautiful tree and ornaments displayed in the house. Thank you Laurence and John for an amazing time in Newport! My husband and I definitely felt like we were in the Gilded Age by the way that you both pampered us. We hope to see you again when the weather isn’t frigid!!!

Our stay at the Almondy Inn was absolutely perfect in every single way.For starters the Inn itself is absolutely beautiful and is immaculate. The beds were heavenly. The staff is top notch-Shelby-Laurence and John-always available and gave great recommendations. The breakfast was so yummy and always features one of Laurence's homemade pastries-they are very accommodating with any preferences at breakfast that you may have. The location of the Inn could not be better-you can walk to everything-the mansions-restaurants-shops etc. We usually do not repeat because so many places to go but we are surely going to go back there-do not miss this place! Its a GEM.

For the 2nd time in a year, we stayed at the historic Almondy Inn, restored to the glory of the 1890’s Victorian style with fine antiques. John and Laurance take care of everything so perfectly – and they are wonderful people to spend time with (or ask for ideas on what to do and where to go. The rooms are romantic and beautiful (our favorite is the Blue Bay) and the beds and linens provide the most relaxing sleep ever. The location is so convenient to the best that Newport has to offer – everything is close by, which is good because you will want to walk after the amazing breakfasts served each morning. Whether you want to enjoy an afternoon people watching from the comfortable chairs on the front porch, shop the local shops, visit the museums and mansions, or head down to the waterfront to partake in lobsters, clam chowder, and a Mudslide, the Almondy Inn is the place to go in Newport.

Absolutely superb from check in to check out. John and Laurence are the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Free parking is included, which relieves the stress of finding somewhere when you arrive. We had a superb breakfast on the first morning and they even prepared a special breakfast for us on the second morning. The attention to detail and service were impeccable, including cheese and wine between 5pm and 6pm. A really well appointed room, with tea and coffee provided and a nice view over the harbour made our stay.
It’s literally a 5 minute walk to the wharfs where there are plenty of places to eat and drink. It’s only a 10 minute walk to Main Street where there is even more choice. Newport is a lovely place to visit and this hotel made it even more special. If your planning on visiting Newport, The Almondy should be top of your list. Thank you to everyone who looked after us during our stay, it was a really fantastic way to round off our New England road trip.

This was our third stay with Laurence and John at The Almondy. They are wonderful innkeepers who make us feel welcome and valued as guests. They are a wealth of information about Newport and it’s sights, activities and dining choices. The inn is charming with only 5 or 6 rooms so it feels like staying at an elegant home. Everything is clean and comfortable and the breakfast is amazingly good! We always meet wonderful and interesting guests during our stays there! Also has an awesome location right in the heart of the wharf area.

The Almondy Inn is a beautiful place to stay in Newport. The room we stayed in was the blue room and it's so quaint with the 4 poster bed and fireplace with a view of the harbor. So tastefully decorated. Marble bathroom. Shelby is a gracious host. Whether it was serving delicious breakfasts at a beautifully set table, cookies in the afternoon or wine and cheese from 5-6, we felt welcomed and enjoyed all those special touches that this Inn and it's staff has to offer. The location to shops and restaurants couldn't be better. No need to get in the car which we could leave in the private parking at the Almondy. We will most definitely be back!

We once again had the most wonderful stay at this lovely, welcoming, pristine B&B. You can’t beat the location(1 block off of Thames) for easy walking access to all of downtown Newport. Laurence and John went above and beyond their hosting duties by catering to our every need, cooking amazing breakfasts, suggesting sights to see, hosting wine & cheese gatherings and offering home baked afternoon goodies. We highly recommend this little gem and can’t wait for our next visit.

Yes, there's a new owner in place and NEW 2 bedroom 1400 sq ft Captain's Quarters suite.
The inn is located right in downtown Newport next to a popular bar so noise from the neighboring establishments can sometimes be an issue. On the other hand, the location is superb and you can walk to everything.
The Sunset Room has a view of downtown and Newport Bay. But as you can read form our previous guest answers, no noise was experienced.
