It is a unique home (Inn). The hosts, Dorothy and Ed are very friendly and knowledgeable about the city. The rooms are adorable (I felt like stepping out from a different time). Each room has its own toilet, sink and shower. There is a big porch, where you can have breakfast, or just relax. The house itself is very interesting... More

We stayed here for a family get together for one weekend. The Stella Maris inn had great charm, with antique furniture and a lovely older coupe, Dorothy and Ed with their son Doug, running the Inn. It was a step back in time with each room laden with pieces of the past. We had both the first floor suite (sleeps... More

My wife and I decided to take a last-minute trip to Newport for a lovely late summer/early fall weekend. We really enjoyed our stay at the Stella Maris Inn - about a 15-20 minute stroll to the heart of Thames St. Ed and Dorothy were sweet and friendly and made us feel right at home. Our room was clean, spacious... More

I stayed with a friend and last minute needed an overnight. The visitors center downtown sent us to the Stella Maris Inn. We stayed in the cottage which is not advertised on their webpage. The bed was a bit hard which is why I did not give it five stars but this is such an adorable place. Clean, friendly and... More

My mother took me to Newport for my birthday weekend and we stayed here for 2 nights. Doug, the son of the owners, was more than helpful - giving us fantastic restaurant recommendations, attending to our needs, providing me with historic literature, etc. As far as price, you cannot beat it in Newport, not an inexpensive town. I would usually... More

This is a wonderful Old Inn at the north end of town. Walking distance to the Piers, and safe quiet streets. I loved the old architecture and rooms with high ceilings and large windows. Everything is old and quaint. The owner are hospitable and accommodating; offering all kinds of suggestions if you ask. Cont. breakfast was more than generous and... More

This inn was a good location for visiting Newport, away from town but walking distance. Ed was a great host giving us good information about local restaurants and the mansions. We came in early May so the room was a bit chilly. Ed provided us with a space heater which solved the problem. Breakfast was simple but very good particularly... More

My wife, son and I stayed for four nights in a two bedroom/1 bathroom suite. The hospitality of the owners, Dorothy and Ed, surpassed anything we have experienced in our travels. If TV and WiFi are your thing stay away. If comfort and gracious living from a bygone era is your taste then do not miss this nugget. Don't just... More

This historic inn is in a great location in Newport, RI and a very good price. However, there is a lot left to be desired: breakfast buffet very skimpy, nothing except water or tea offered all day, very cluttered ambiance -- feels dusty.

went to Rhode Island for Greek Festival with friends and their families. the hotel was great surprise amongst ugly overpriced chain hotels without character. The location is great 1 mile from the center yet quiet, next to the park, with wonderful comfortable tranquil setting. Could not enjoy more sitting in their terrace, watching boats (partial view). the hosts are wonderful,... More
