Fantastic views of Newport Bay but the service and food left a lot to be desired. Sent back the Tuna entree. Soups were just pretty good. Very slow service. Lunch took about two and a half hours. Entrees came out the same time as the appetizers. Allow lots of time for lunch.

We attended a wedding here on 4th of July weekend. The service was very good. The room was smallish, but expected given that the building was a single family turned resport hotel. The price of the room was very high for what we got. The price of meals was high. The views of the water from the hotel was outstanding,... More

This hotel is specifically for the views. That is why you stay and it is delivered. However, amenities are as basic as they come. I wasn't extremely impressed but not really disappointed. It was more...ho hum. But when you are outside!!! It is gorgeous. The grounds are beautiful. The pool was a nice break up of the day as well.... More

This place lived up to the expectations, the views from the patio make everything worth it. The safari room has great food and the staff was very friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat. The room was exactly what I expected when booking a place a few hundred years old. I did not hear or see one complaint from... More

We were a group of 6 for dinner and told the wait would be 1/2 hour to 45 min. No problem since we didn't have a reservation. We waited 1 1/2 hour and left. There was a table available and when we brought it to the attention of the hostess she looked flustered and obviously didn't want to sit us... More

I was honored to be installed in a corner suite that was spacious except that large bathroom has no place to put toiletries. There is plenty of room for a table. Also there was no makeup mirror. Both items could be easily addressed by a caring management. Since the A/C is centrally monitored, the room was so freezing that, probably... More

I am writing this while staying here because good friends are getting married here and I am in the wedding. No doubt this is a gorgeous property for a wedding but I am reviewing the HOTEL and not the venue. For such an expensive rate >$300/night...only ONE staff member( young, tall reddish hair and glasses)) has said hello to us and... More

Three days (July 4th, 5th and 6th) with completely different experiences. This is one of New England's busiest wedding venues and no wonder - amazing water views, open to the sunset, ideal public rooms for small or large occasions inside and out. However, if you are a regular guest and multiple weddings are going on, you might feel like a... More

We stayed here the night of 7/3. After coming back from downtown around 10:45 we wanted to have a cocktail and enjoy the spectacular views. We went to the Safari Bar and were told that because of a wedding after-party, the bar was closed (really? 4th of July weekend at 11:00?). We went to the front desk to see if... More

Dear Ryan C, thank you for sharing your feedback with us and we're very sorry to hear about the experience you had during your stay. The Safari Room was closed in line with their normal business hours for that day (11:30am-9pm) and after speaking with the staff, they explained they were verifying whether you were requesting an alcoholic beverage or... Attended a wedding at this hotel. Bride, groom and many guests stayed in this hotel. The view from the backyard is magnificent, especially at sunset because the hotel is facing west. Cannot tell anything about quality of the hotel itself but location and its look are superb.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
OceanCliff Resort was designed and built in 1864 by the architectural firm Peabody & Stearns from Boston who designed the original Breakers and Doris Duke's Rough Point both located on elegant Bellevue Avenue. A wealthy industrialist and member of Mrs. Astor's 400 Club originally used OceanCliff as a private summer residence during the Gilded Age. The estate remained a private summer home until 1954, when it was sold and later converted into an oceanfront retreat to host lavish parties and society affairs. Located on 10 acres of rolling lawns with spectacular ocean views, OceanCliff offers a truly unique blend of breathtaking beauty, world-class cuisine and a professionally trained staff to ensure meticulous attention to every detail of your stay. Twenty-four distinctly stylized guest rooms whisk you back to the 19th century with modern conveniences and stunning oceanfront views. OceanCliff's grand ballroom accommodates from 75-250 guests for dinner and dancing, while a variety of smaller rooms allow for more intimate gatherings. Set amidst the breathtaking splendor of the Narragansett Bay, OceanCliff has inspired generations of brides with some of the most enchanting landscapes in Newport, Rhode Island. Whether you prefer a romantic summer sunset celebration or a unique winter white wedding, OceanCliff offers a variety of wedding and reception options. OceanCliff is located on historic Ocean Drive with easy access to downtown Newport and is only a 90-minute drive from Boston and Hartford. ... more   less
