Experience Newport's enchanted Gilded Age at historic Ivy Lodge. Located in Newport, Rhode Island's mansion district off famed Bellevue Avenue, The Ivy Lodge is just a short stroll to the mansions, downtown Newport, The Cliff Walk and the beaches. Period antiques and victorian accents throughout its rooms complete the newly-renovated home and gardens. The richly-detailed oak walls and fireplace hearths provide the quintessential Newport backdrop for a memorable experience in the City by the Sea. Explore our inn and discover Newport the way it was meant to be.
What a lovely inn. It is removed from the harbor hubbub, but just a few blocks from the Cliffwalk and an easy 20 minute stroll to the downtown area, with all the restaurant and shops. Our second floor rooms were charmingly decorated and immaculate, and Jacqi and her sons most accommodating. We would not think of staying anyplace else in Newport.

I've been to the IVY Lodge many times over the years and I keep going back! Each room is so unique, cozy, super clean and comfortable. The owners and staff are professional, accommodating and friendly. The wrap around porch/deck is so peaceful, great place to have coffee and read or just listen to the birds and look at the flowers. Every morning breakfast is unique and he Alve Regina entrance to the stairs, 5 min walk, check out the cliff walk. There so much to do near by, whether one walks, rents the electric bike or drives. Great restaurants. IVY Lodge is also very peaceful and very well maintained. I'll continue to go!

Stayed at the Ivy Lodge Nightmare on Clay St from July 7-9. Had an unpleasant experience. Booked the room 5 months in advance for a destination wedding in Rhode Island and choose a room online with Wesley. Recommended by the bride's mother. First time in Newport, excited to explore the city and visit the mansions. Checked in with Wesley around 12-12.15 pm on Friday. He showed us some places to visit. Given the Van Alen room. About 1.5 hours later, while we were out for lunch, Wesley called and admitted that he had given us the wrong room. He asked if we could move, but we explained that we were unable to do so immediately and would sort it out later. We had already used the bathroom, unpacked our clothes, and had personal items in the room. Wesley insisted that we move out by 3 PM as he had another guest coming in. We reiterated that we couldn't leave right away and would check in at the inn after lunch. About 20 minutes later, Wesley called back, leaving a message that he had resolved the issue and everything was fine with the room( on my voicemail) After lunch, we headed back to the inn, which was two hours after Wesley's call. At that time, Jacqui, Wesley's mother and the innkeeper, called in a sneering voice with a nasty attitude and accused me of being inflexible about moving and causing her son to give away our room to other guests. She claimed that her son had asked us to move just ten minutes after we checked in, but I corrected her, stating that he called 1.5 hours later. She also falsely claimed that her son had offered to move us and compensate us for a night, which never happened. I explained to her that her son had left a message on my phone two hours ago, stating that everything was sorted out. It was clear that she was not aware of this. However, she insisted that we had to leave immediately and demanded that we grab our bags. She was essentially throwing us out. It was an unbelievable situation, and I have never been treated in such a deplorable manner as a paying guest. We were repeatedly harassed by both Wesley and Jacqui. This was outright discrimination in the year 2023. There was no reason for her behavior. I am very sure this would have never happened to us if we were white. I explained to her that we are here for a wedding and that the bride’s mother recommended her Inn. We were willing to go to the Marriot and we told her we can do so if she pays for it. She refused. Jacqui’s solution was that we have to leave and again . She was adamant on throwing us out and insisting we leave. Wow! There was no reason for her behavior. I am very sure this would have never happened to us if we were white. She is in the hospitality business and she is a nasty woman with a bad attitude. I told her we needed to be at the wedding for 12.30 pm on Saturday and no time to find or move to another place except the Marriot. I suggested since we have used our room and the other guests also used theirs we can make the switch on Saturday as a compromise. At this time both my husband and I felt unwelcome and I was upset about her behavior and response about the room. This situation really spoilt our cheerfulness. I paid for an upgraded room chosen online and discussed it on the phone with Wesley five months earlier that didn’t match the room I received on Saturday and I never received a confirmation by email or receipts from either room charges although promised. There is no room online called the “savanna room” . I carefully selected the room I wanted which was the Van Allen at the front of the home on the second floor. The next day we were moved to a tiny room on the third floor at the back stairs ( about 200 sq ft). It was claustrophobic. This location in these homes are typically servant/ staff quarters. I could hear the kitchen staff at the base of the stairs. We paid for an upgraded room and I told Wesley when I booked that I do not want a third floor walk up either. The rooms I booked were $400 plus a night. I can’t image this Savanna room is this price. At this time we were stuck headed to the wedding.. We did not stay at the property except for sleeping which I couldn’t on Saturday because the Savanna room was uncomfortable . We didn’t eat their breakfast or utilize any of the house or grounds. We felt hostility not hospitality. My husband and I travel extensively all over the world and we have never encountered a ruder or more unpleasant person like Jacqui. She said she doesn’t care if we post a review as well. Wesley never attempt to resolve this matter as well and it was handed off to his mother. My husband and I were treated unfairly and it was clear we were discriminated against in this situation. We are colored people. Family owned businesses where they don’t care about customers and have an ability to discriminate freely and should have consequences. Never again do we plan on staying at a B and B . I would rather spend my $800 plus dollars at the Marriot or a reputable establishment. Don’t waste your money or stress your life with this place or associate yourself with these nasty dishonest people!…

Charming and relaxing. Wonderfully preserved, quaint, comfortable lodge run by welcoming family. We stayed in the charming Turret Room with a view on the garden. Sipped our tea in the round open window with a sweet scent of flowers in the air, relaxed in a jacuzzi in the evening and spent the night under the canopy of a king size bed. Centrally placed, we walked to the cliff and mansions and to the wharf for dinner. We felt charmed and pampered!

Our entire experience at the Ivy Lodge was fantastic. We were looking for a place that had a fireplace and a bathtub that could fit two, and we were so happy to have found this place. We stayed in the Trunk room, which was great and clean. The bed was very soft and comfortable. The interior of the house is beautiful and really added to the ambiance. Wes had a lot of great suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the area. He also reached out on the morning of our arrival to let us know that our room would be ready early if we wanted, which was very considerate since our outdoor plans were mostly scrapped due to poor weather. The breakfast was fantastic, and the available snacks during the day were also a treat. I had to watch my head a few times to avoid a few low doorframes, but overall not an issue (I'm 6' 0", so not too tall). The wifi also wasn't very reliable, but I didn't use it much anyway. Overall, will definetely stay here again if we ever return to Newport!…

The Ivy Lodge was the perfect choice for our holiday getaway to Newport in December 2022. Service and attention to detail at this family-owned inn was top notch from the morning of our trip when one of the owners gave us a call to let us know our room was ready early (without asking). Upon arrival, Wesley greeted us at the front door with a warm welcome. He spent some time taking us through the map of Newport to note key landmarks & store. and even presented us with a thorough list of his favorite restaurants and bars in Newport (sorted by distance!) and some helpful details! This really helped make our trip great. The room (the Library Room, which should be named the Harry Potter room) was unique, immaculate and cozy, with a gas fireplace and large bathroom. The hotel even had classic music playing on the TV - just a wonderful and relaxing experience. The hotel itself is beautiful and felt like our home - there is a common area with books, seating and a dining area with all day coffee, tea, snacks, which is also where breakfast is served. Location is great as it's in a peaceful, more residential area, but still walking distance from the Cliff Walk, The Elms, restaurants, coffee, shops. The staff is so kind and friendly, most notably the housekeepers who went out of their way to chat with us and welcome us. We absolutely loved our stay at Ivy Lodge and can't wait to return. It's clear the owners really love and care for this inn and go out of their way for their guests.…

It was our return trip back to The Ivy Lodge. We haven't been there in a few years, so we were definitely looking forward to it. We could couldn't have been more pleased. It was everything we remembered and more. We were greeted by Wesley, who made us feel welcome. He also made some wonderful recommendations for dinner. WE stayed in the Van Allen room and it was perfect. Breakfast was a delight both mornings. The second day my husband was not a quiche fan, so the chef made him an omelet instead. I enjoyed the spinach quiche. The granola was as good as we remembered.

The Ivy Lodge was the very best part of my stay in Newport! It was beautiful, clean, comfortable and luxurious. You can just feel the history in this grand house. I loved the Trunk Room on the 3rd floor with its gas fireplace, skylight, large spa tub and the cozy victorian setting. The front porch was a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine after a full day of walking. Everything you want to see is about a 20 min walk. Breakfast was delicious and the dining room had tea, juice and cookies available all day long. I highly recommend!

I spent a night at this beautiful Victorian age house and left wishing I’d had more than a one night stay. This house was a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the high society atmosphere of Newport’s historical mansions without breaking the bank. The location was close to the mansions and Cliff Walk while being only a short walk from the shops and restaurants of Thames St. The staff were friendly, breakfast (and midday snacks) were delicious, and the ambience of the B&B was perfect. Can’t wait to return!

Thank you so much!! We try our best and our housekeepers are absolutely wonderful! We've owned this place for 10 years and the atmosphere of our foyer is still just so grand and beautiful to us; sometimes when there's no guests we will sneak over and enjoy the lodge for ourselves. We're lucky to own such a beautiful gem. Thank you for the review!
