This was a last minute find due to a last minute change in our travel itinerary and the need to be at the train station before sun up to get a bus. Really friendly and relaxed staff, great community atmosphere, awesome to be able to relax with a wine in the bar after a very long day, and had a really good sleep in a comfortable bed. Only downside was the lack of hot water in the shower. Took ages for it to even get to tepid and didn’t get any hotter than that. First world problem really, but a consideration if you are looking forward to a hot shower after a long day of travelling.
For a hostel it might be quite ok to have to take the linnens of your bed and bring the to the laundry before you leave. Same as you might be asked to wash your own coffee cup after 'breakfast'. In a hostel you might also find rooms that are absolutely miniscule. The DuBeau is such a hostel but the price of a room as that of a normal hotel. Advise to the owners: half the price or double the service!
We were looking for somewhere close to the bars and restaurants so we gave this place a go and very happy we did. Its not classy, don't expect that and you will love it. Rooms are older but clean and have everything you need. As others say the trains nearby didn't bother us. The breakfast was ok for a coffee and little snack, but there are so many places nearby Biffs bagels being a standout. The Bar Nomads on site it very good and a little upmarket. We stayed 4 days and would definitely return if in Flagstaff again
I really enjoyed my stay here. I rented a Premium Private room w 2 double beds. The beds were quite comfortable. The lack of A/C did not make the stay too hot. The temperatures barely hit the 80's. When I left for the day, I turned on the two ceiling fans to the low setting and closed the door behind me. When I returned in the evening, all I had to do was open one window and turn the fans up a notch for a few minutes and it soon became quite comfortable. This particular room had SIX good sized windows (four with screens - no bugs though). One was in the bathroom, one in the kitchenette/wardrobe space, and the other four in the main room providing a great cross breeze. Since I arrived on Amtrak, I wanted something within walking distance and this was perfect. It took about 3 minutes/ 2.5 blocks to walk to the depot. The staff left the key in a secret hiding place since I was arriving late. The trains come through at all hours but you barely notice them when in your room. They are really subtle and easily ignored. Food/drink and live music was available within 1 block and also one could walk across the tracks and a few more blocks to find much more in the town center. While staying at the Du Beau, I had access to a fully functional kitchen, a common lounge space (indoors and also outdoors), free coffee, pastries, fruits, and cereal, and live music at the corner of the building. The music stopped about 11pm so one could sleep. I would DEFINITELY stay here again!!!…
Checked in on a Wednesday evening during a late winter snow. Room was small but comfortable. No TV no problem. Hot shower but low pressure. Bed comfortable, room temperature perfect and adjustable. Noise quiet even with low rumble of trains. Staff in the morning was very welcoming. Very but no horns and no street noise. Staff was curtesy, coffee was hot. Nomads for dinner was quite a surprise. Excellent green chili, comfortable settings. Would certainly stay for my next visit.
