From the moment we pulled up it felt like home. We were greeted by Maxx with friendly conversation and were shown around. Such a beautiful room, the ambience was perfect for the occasions at hand. Not only was it my beautiful girlfriends birthday, but it was also the day I was to propose. We will always have the Starlight Pines to memorialize that special moment in our lives. Maxx and Monica were amazing, the food was scrumptious and the company was endearing. Thank you again and we will come back again soon.

This was hands down the best hospitality experience I’ve had. Maxx, Monica and their two beautiful dogs are truly the perfect hosts. The place was spotless and the protocols they have in place for Covid made me feel very safe while still being able to enjoy the charming inn. Breakfast was fresh and delicious and Maxx’s homemade brownies are addictive! I was mostly blown away by the hosts’ desire to give their guests the best possible stay in the area. On the morning I was leaving for the Grand Canyon at 5:30am, Maxx and Monica sent me off with hot breakfast sandwiches and snacks. Another afternoon, I wanted to check out the local thrift stores and Maxx put together a guide of his favorites in town. I ended up extending my stay by two days because I truly felt at home.

After much research for a B&B in Flagstaff, one phone call with the Inn host had me sold that this was the one we were looking for. Maxx spoke warmly and excitedly to me about their Inn and I felt like we were already old friends and we had not even met! That night I made my husband call to make our anniversary reservations. We ended up postponing our trip due to COVID and each time we spoke to Maxx he was happy to reschedule our visit and we would talk about the measures they were implementing to assure the health and safety for not only them, but their guests. We were pleasantly surprised on how many precautions they had taken and even with masks on, we felt right at home. The Inn and our room was immaculate and they had truly thought of everything from COVID safety measures (such as in-room dinette tables for social distancing for breakfast) to surprising us with a bottle of wine on our private back patio for my husbands birthday. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch relaxing and visiting with Maxx, Monica, and their two precious pups, Lucy and Lily. They helped us with our dining and hiking plans so that we were able to avoid crowds and enjoy our hikes and meals safely. We were sad our weekend stay ended, but know that we will be back to visit them again soon so we can see our new friends again.

Coming from New England we have a high standard of expectations in our accommodations. Pulling into Starlight Pines we immediately felt at home. The innkeepers, Maxx and Monica are old friends we hadn’t yet met. The building is impeccably clean, far exceeding COVID protocols, I suspect this is their everyday standard. We were fortunate to stay in the dragonfly room, home to a generous clawfoot soaking tub, fireplace and king sized bed. The ceilings are high, the linens are cozy, but most of all it was the best inn we’ve had the pleasure of staying in, after dozens across the country and Canada. Maxx and Monica are well versed in local culture, can give tips and suggestions for things to do, what to try, and where to be for even an ISS fly over. But the real win was the sweet duo who clearly run the show, Lucy and Lily, the Inn pups! Breakfast, my goodness, where to start. Daily there was scratch prepared hot meals featuring eggs, fruit, local bacon and incredible pastries and breads. We left too full everyday and convinced Maxx to scale back for us as we don’t typically eat full breakfast! Coffee over flowing, and in room k-cup and tea kettle with huge selections of coffee tea, hot chocolate. We were offered access to seltzers and bottled water throughout our trip as well. After hours of exploring national parks there was always fresh treats waiting for us to come home to. Maxx I’m going to get that brownie recipe out of you my friend! Truly the best brownies, amazing cookies and always fresh fruit available. But coming into the inn and being greeted with comfy slippers, Lily and Lucy, and your smiling (I could see it behind the masks!) faces made the trip from New England worth it. We’re coming back and staying longer!
