I stayed for a week. The room was clean and the staff was nice. My biggest complaint was the noise coming from the next door bar. The patrons were playing loud music and singing way into the early morning hours. It was difficult to get restful sleep. The kitchen was great but it lacked the basics, such as cups, plates etc.
We spent four nights at the Sitka Hotel while traveling further to visit our son in the Arctic Circle. The hotel has a great location. The room was relatively nice. It was clean. And we found the staff to be helpful. We especially liked the airport shuttle service pickup and then return at 4:30a. It is unfortunate they are neighbors with Ernie’s Saloon. Our room was on the Ernie’s side of the building. It was very loud till 2a. And further worsened by a food truck in the alley with equally loud drunks. We should have requested a change to the other side of the motel. We held out hope that the next night would be better. It never was. I would highly recommend requesting a room as far from Ernie’s as possible.
We stayed here at the end of a Ferry trip for a couple of nights. Not my first stay, and the hotel is nice overall. We had room #100 which is a handicapped room and it had a few maintenance issues in the bathroom that need fixing. Other than that though, a nice place to stay if you want to be right in the heart of the town. Although, Sitka is a small town so most of the lodgings in Sitka proper are as close. Also, if you want a view of the bay, do NOT stay in room 100.
Our stay at the Sitka was a mix of good and not-so-good. The room is TINY. It has a kitchenette, but no utensils, plates, etc. The gal who works the desk in the mornings is not friendly…at all. Breakfast is minimal…pre-packaged cat food bars, cold cereal, a bit of fruit. The bananas were good! Our room was over the restaurant, so the music was loud late into the night. Our window looked out o er Lincoln St…so the rowdy drunks were shouting until about 2:30AM. The bed features a mistress of springs that is deep, too soft, and rolls you to the middle. There’s no AC, but there’s a small fan to help cool you off. The high points were few: the room was clean. Denny, the shuttle driver, is exceptional (unless you call during the day for a ride in from The Fortress of the Bear because none of the taxis are answering, and he has to ask the manager…and they leave you stranded and begging a ride.) But, on his own schedule, Denny is the ONE employee who’ll go out of his way to help you! The restaurant is EXCEPTIONAL! The seafood is out-of-this-world good, as is the 20 oz. Ribeye! The Italian food is consistently excellent and the staff are delightful! It’s not the old-Alaska charm for which we’d hoped. The customer service is dismal. But…it’s clean…and there’s Denny.…
The hotel is right downtown and within walking distance of everthing. The roon was clean and spacious, the wifi good, the staff friendy and helpful, the beds confortble and the shuttle service to the airport and the Alaska State Ferry terminal convient. We stayed here for 4 days and had a great stay and would come back again.
I booked a reservation 2 weeks in advance before coming to Sitka. The day we got there, I called the hotel to see if we could maybe check in early or leave our bags there while we wait. The girl on the phone was just being impertinent and impolite, just told us we can't do that and hung up. Later, I had noticed that somehow my card didn't get charged yet, so I checked my emails and there was an email that I got the night before, which is when we were out of service on the ferry, that said our reservation had been canceled. We didn't get a single phone call. So we called back to see what was going on and the same girl just had told us that we can no longer book a room and it wasn't her fault that it got messed up and to complain about it to someone else, then proceeded to hang up on me mid-sentence.…
Stayed at the end of a cruise and location and room was wonderful. The penthouse has a rooftop area that made the perfect location for welcoming the morning. Convenient shuttle to and from the airport.
Came to Sitka on our way to stay at Khaz Bay Adventures for a 5 day fishing/exploring trip. We needed a place for an overnight stay. The Sitka Hotel was clean, rooms were not big but comfy - just what we needed. The shuttle picked us up from the airport right on time and check in was quick and easy. We had to get to Alaska Seaplanes early in the morning and they took us in the shuttle so no need to hire a taxi. When our flight was delayed they let us leave our luggage at the hotel while we ventured about Sitka. Overall very pleasant experience.
Well the location is excellent and their shuttle bus to and fro the airport very good also. Our room was downstairs next to the desk and the breakfast area and the only problem was people were checking out as early as 5 AM and noisy so we heard people off and on from 5 AM on in the mornings! Tamsin at the desk was great help with checking in. And we were allowed to leave our luggage in storage there while we went out to eat and shop and came back.
The hotel is clean, located close to everything and the staff are helpful. They have a shuttle from airport to hotel and a washer and dryer on site. We had a small kitchen in our room. They serve a complimentary continental breakfast which we did not try because there are some great bakeries in the town. Overall, Good value for the price.
