Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Sitka Hotel boasts a prime location in the heart of Sitka, lauded for its easy access to local eateries, shops, and picturesque views. However, some guests feel the hotel doesn't provide good value, pointing out high prices and additional charges coupled with a lack of amenities. Room experiences vary, with both cleanliness and views receiving mixed reviews. While the service can be hit or miss, with reports of both helpfulness and unprofessionalism, the atmosphere is often marred by external noise and outdated decor. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded, though some inconsistencies have been noted.

This is very centrally located in the small town of sitka near the harbor. It is a 5 min. walk to Crescent Bay/harbor if you are taking a boat or kayak tour. We had a room on the side nearest the harbor so were not bothered by noise from Ernie's bar. We did hear noise from the hotel restaurant and bar downstairs but they closed at 10pm so not bad. We were out later than that. We had a small kitchen with a stocked coffee bar, appliances and cookware. We did not really cook in but did use the fridge. I am not sure if all the rooms have a full kitchen so check when you reserve. Our room was ready early and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom is fairly large and roomy. For a mid-range price and good location I would stay here again.

The hotel is clean, located close to everything and the staff are helpful. They have a shuttle from airport to hotel and a washer and dryer on site. We had a small kitchen in our room. They serve a complimentary continental breakfast which we did not try because there are some great bakeries in the town. Overall, Good value for the price.

The bathroom and room was clean. The bed was soft and the pillows quite bulky making it hard to get my neck and head comfortable. The area around the bed was dark, just one lamp and bedside table that put out little light. It was not possible to read because of the lack of light. Our TV did not work and the only attendant downstairs was unable to get it working.
Sounds travels easily between the walls. You can hear people walking above upstairs, down the hall, and running in the next room. The vacuum was being used close by at 8:30a.m. I don’t fault the cleaning staff as their job requires a lot of work in a short period of time.
Most surprising was the staff person at the reception desk in the morning. She was unfriendly and quite gruff. Lodging is expensive in Alaska but for almost $300/night I would expect more.

My husband and I stayed at the Sitka Hotel for three nights at the end of July/early August. The hotel offers a free shuttle from the airport and we took advantage of that when we got in. From the moment we had our first interaction with the staff, we were impressed. Tamsyn picked us up from the airport and proceeded to tell us about several of the things we could do in town and places we could eat. Throughout our entire stay, Tamsyn was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in every way. She then checked us into our room. While a little small, the room was lovely and very comfortable. We had everything we needed. The hotel is located right in the middle of Sitka. You can walk to most of the sights including the Totem Park which is about a mile and a half away. The restaurants and excellent food and is only open for dinner. I highly recommend he bacon-wrapped scallops if available. Overall, it was a lovely stay in a comfortable hotel. We will definitely be back!

We reserved a room at the Sitka Hotel prior to our arrival on August 7, 2023, and used our credit card to guarantee the room as we knew we would be arriving around midnight; however, when we arrived there was only one room left and it was very dirty as it had not been cleaned. We were driven to a sister hotel, Baranof, and stayed there. When we received our credit card bill, we discovered we were charged a higher price for our room and also had a bill for the Sitka Hotel for $28.49. When we called the hotel and asked why we were charged $28.49, we were told it was a change fee. We explained the situation and asked to have the fee removed and also told them we thought the price should have been the same as our reservation since it was the hotel that had not cleaned our room.
We were told we would need to contact the manager. We left a voice mail for the manager and also sent an email but did not receive a response.

Great location; everything super clean; comfortable bed; a bit tight on room, but not the smallest room we've ever been in. Walkable to everything in town, including the State Historical park. Even with COVID restrictions, they supplied a very adequate breakfast - yogurt, fresh fruit, bread and muffins to toast (butter and jelly too), and mini flavored muffins, as well as instant oatmeal.

This was a great and clean hotel. Located centrally I was within walking distance of everything in Downtown Sitka. The gorgeous view of the spire of St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Cathedral from my room was an added bonus!

Wifi was good, but the only possible disadvantage I found in my room was a lack of desk space. If you are on a business trip where you need the space, this may be a problem. Make sure you contact the hotel and request desk space if you need it!

We booked a standard room with Mountain Views. When we arrived for check in we were informed by a very rude desk clerk that their cleaning staff did not show up that day and they were trying to find people to clean the rooms, therefore we could not check in until the rooms were cleaned. Two hours later we were given a room. The room was clean but it was NOT on the side of the hotel with Mountain Views. It was directly over the Bar/Restaurant which played music until 10 p.m. and it was on the main street side of the hotel where there was constant noise and traffic until midnight. We had to leave the window open in order to get some cooler temps and air flow, so we did not get a good night's sleep either night. At $259 a night I would expect much better.

We ended up moving to another hotel and didn't stay here even one night. Our room was very musty smelling and both of us ended up coughing till we left. It seemed clean, but there was something wrong. The safe didn't work and the deadbolt wouldn't lock. There was no coffee maker and when I asked at the front desk, he said they were breaking and too expensive to replace. They did end up refunding us one of the 2 nights we paid, so that was good. Other rooms might be fine, but ours was not. The shuttle driver was very nice. Location is good, but the smell in the room wasn't tolerable.

I made an excellent choice when booking the Sitka Hotel. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Sitka, AK. It is conveniently located near downtown and easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the harbor. Rooms were clean, bed comfortable, kitchen with large refrigerator, microwave, counter top and sink. Shower was inviting after a long, cold day on a boat. Staff was accommodating especially Denny! Cleaning crew was very friendly asking if I needed anything when I saw them. I was on the third floor and had a wonderful view of town from my window. I did not eat breakfast as I was gone earlier than it was served. Quiet rooms, lots of TV channels and more. This hotel fit my needs and I would stay here again on my next visit.
