From the time we entered the SME property, and Karen came out to greet us,until we left and saw Ralph waving to us as he did some work on his house, we felt like friends. We stayed in the Butterfly cabin which was beautifully furnished with items from Ralph and Karen's travels in Europe. Nothing was overlooked from a flashlight to... More

From start to finish this has been the best “getaways” we’ve ever experienced. The Escape itself is amazing and the nature walk was so lovely! As dedicated hikers, we were pleasantly surprised we could do our 4 miles without budging from the area. The cabin is beyond charming. Everything so carefully selected and placed in exactly the right place to... More

A perfect two days away from traffic, just an hour and a half from DC. Beautiful Cabins all decorated with care from the owners Ralph and Karen, antique fornitures brought from Europe remind you small old towns from Italy and Germany! The kindness of the the owners is endless and the tranquility that they transmit you is contagious! I loved... More

Shadow Mountain Escape was easily the best location I have ever stayed at. I have travelled across the country, driven down the Florida, travelled to foreign countries, and I can easily say that this has beaten them all! My boyfriend and I stayed at the Bumble Bee Cabin and found a new home there. We live seven hours away, and... More

My husband and I came here this weekend for our anniversary. Every part of me didn't want to leave a review for the sake of keeping this a little more -our secret. But they deserve nothing short of outstanding .The cabin is absolutely lovely, I mean just beautiful. The location is perfect and very private! Ralph and Karen are the... More

I had the best experience with everything about this wonderful place! I felt welcomed when I called (had a return call within the hour) about information, when I showed up, while I was there, and all follow up correspondence. Karin is wonderful, bringing us gift baskets every morning, marshmallows for the fire, and any information we needed without intruding on... More

My wife and I celebrated our 5th anniversary here and it was beyond expectations! The attention to detail and inclusion of area pieces from around the globe added to the already fantastic ambiance and surroundings. Karen and Ralph are absolutely the greatest hosts and offer a most wonderful fireside hangout on Saturday nights with tasty homemade German mulled wine. The... More

What a fabulous location, butting up against the Shenandoah National Park and Shenandoah Valley, a few minutes drive from Luray and the most extraordinary caverns. The accommodation was great. We stayed in the Bumblebee cabin which was wonderfully comfortable and with everything we needed. Karen and Ralph were excellent hosts, very helpful in our planning, and making us very welcome... Nestled in the foothills at the western edge of the Shenandoah National Forest, we found Shadow Mountain Escape's luxurious cabin to be an ideal couples' getaway. The traditional timber frame construction and fabulous blend of German farmhouse/hunting lodge furnishings of the spacious two-story Bumble Bee cabin brought back memories of our own European travels. Ralph and Karen Riddle are gracious... More

We stayed here for two nights and I wish it would have been longer. I live in Virginia and I have been to many cabins. This one is in the best location if you are going to hike or go to the national park, Luray caverns, or any one of the quaint small towns around there. It's clean, Has everything... More
