We spent a wonderful weekend in the Hurley Byrd cottage at Piney Hill. Wiley and Hank are spectacular hosts, offering the perfect balance of attentive warmth and respectful distance. Each morning, we awoke to a delicious hot breakfast, made in careful consideration of dietary restrictions and preferences. No joke, they put together a unique vegan hot breakfast each morning with taste and presentation perfection. Our cottage had an out door

The location is ideal for hiking in Shenandoah and visiting wineries; the hospitality is unbeatable! Wiley and Hank are knowledgeable, helpful, and super fun to chat with. We appreciated how pleasant, clean, and well-maintained the cottage was - can’t wait to go back!

Recommend walking on Piney Hill Road outside the B&B entrance for a morning jaunt.

My husband and I wanted a quick get-away into the Shenandoahs, and found this adorable bed&breadkfast. It was such memorable trip! Hank was the main person we talked to during our stay, and he is very friendly, warm, and hospitable. He is the epitome of customer service, and really made sure our stay was enjoyable! The location was ideal, being nearby to the national park. The B&B is also very charming and well-kept. We stayed at the Hurley Bird Cottage, and cleanliness was 5/5. With the pandemic, they even had plenty of hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes out for our use. It had everything we needed, including a beautiful, private, back porch view of the mountains. We enjoyed having breakfast and sipping wine outside often. Our breakfast was DELICIOUS every morning! I had mentioned my husband is lactose intolerant, and they made sure to accommodate this every morning! It was delivered in a cute picnic basket at our door, on time, every morning. Hank also surprised us with dessert one evening after our long hike! He is also very knowledgeable about the hikes and restaurants in the area. If you're looking for a nice getaway (especially during the pandemic) in a charming B&B with wonderful hospitality, this is the place to stay! We will hopefully be coming back in the fall for our fall hiking adventures! Thank you again Hank and Wiley!

We are one of those "lucky" couples whose wedding and honeymoon fell right in the middle of a pandemic. Our honeymoon plans had changed 3 times because of cancelations and state restrictions. At one point we weren't sure if our wedding was even going to happen and we thought maybe waiting to go on a honeymoon later would be a better choice. In the midst of constant changes and a lot of tears we decide to make plans to go somewhere after our wedding to just get away from all the craziness happening in our world. So after our beautiful wedding we went to our port in the storm at Piney Hill. Hank and Wiley were the most amazing hosts! They are the kind of people that you talk to for an hour and you feel like you've known them all your life. They showed us hospitality that we had never experienced before, they couldn't do enough for us. From suggestions of where to eat, to sharing their beautiful home, to delicious baked goods, to just telling stories and making us feel at home, they made our trip incredible. They found out that I had a bit of a sweet tooth and surprised us with some special treats in our room on more than 1 occasion. The house was impeccable, beautifully decorated and the breakfasts are to die for. The food was absolutely delicious and now when I am eating my bowl of Cheerios for breakfast I think about those wonderful breakfasts and want to go back so bad. It may not have turned out to be the honeymoon we had planned, but it turned out to be the most unexpected surprise of a honeymoon that we could have ever imagined. They have a sign in their dining room that reads "Come as Strangers, Leave as Friends" and that is exactly how we felt when we left. If you want a relaxing vacation with amazing views, great food, wonderful accommodations, and 2 owners who go above and beyond to make you feel like family, then you need to make a visit to Piney Hill. You will NOT be disappointed. Thank you Hank and Wiley for an unforgettable and best first leg of our honeymoon 2 weeks ago! We will never forget all you did for us and we will be back to visit!!!

Anyone reading this review should book this B&B right away! My wife and I had an incredible and romantic Valentines Day weekend at Piney Hill this winter. There’s no better B&B to stay in Shenandoah Valley, or anywhere for that matter. We have been going to Piney Hill since 2004 because Hank & Wiley are the kindest, most welcoming, knowledgeable, and talented innkeepers out there. You’ll find this out too from every Luray resident you meet, who all speak highly of them. They make us feel like family when we stay. Piney Hill itself is a beautiful and comfortable place as well, and Hank and Wiley have taken great care to create an inviting country home where you can truly relax. They have thought of everything - providing things like shampoo/conditioner, water and sodas in the room fridge, wine glasses and a corkscrew, etc. Their attention to detail is remarkable. They also make an unforgettable breakfast and yummy home baked treats. Lastly, Luray itself has lots to do and many delicious and relatively inexpensive restaurants like Moonshadows and the Valley Cork. We also went on a fun horseback ride at Fort Valley Ranch and saw a fantastic Shakespeare performance at Blackfriars theater in Staunton. I can’t wait to go back to Piney Hill.

We recently stayed at Piney Hill B & B and could not have stayed in a nicer place. This was our first trip out since the Covid lockdown and we were so pleased with our choice. Our hosts could not have been nicer! We stayed in the Mark Ruffner Room which does not have an ensuite bathroom but you do get your own private bath down the hall. It was ideal. The bathroom was huge with a lovely shower, the room was large with comfortable chairs to sit and read or watch TV. The views from Piney Hill are beautiful! Our breakfasts were fabulous. Our hosts were extremely knowledgable about the area with perfect suggests for hikes in the national park. More importantly since many restaurants were still not reopened or had limited hours they had excellent suggestions for where to eat. We had a wonderful stay!

If you’re thinking about booking this place, go for it. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and it was an amazing experience. We drove down on St. Patrick’s Day & traffic was terrible. Our host, Hank, was flexible & patient with our need to extend the checkin time based on traffic. The highlight of the stay was definitely the breakfast! Having it delivered every morning in a picnic basket outside our door was extra special but the food itself was amazing! One of us is a vegetarian so each day, they marked which meal was veg. We had French toast, parfaits, scones, quiche and all was wonderful. Hank had mentioned we might have treats waiting in the room from time to time & each day after arriving back in the room, there would be another homemade snack waiting (cookies, cake, brownies)!
The property is beautiful, surrounded by lovely cows wandering by and dark skies at night. Hank gave us a little overview at the beginning, which was great. The internet and TV were perfect all weekend - even though the location is remote, they have put effort into ensuring you can still get online without any issues. The cottage was clean & comfortable, it included a fireplace that warmed up the room quickly if needed. There is a little kitchen area, two recliners and a nice sized bathroom along with front and back patio.
The location was perfect, we were able to easily drive to Blue Rock Inn for dinner, Skyline Drive in Shenandoah Park, Luray Caverns for the day and many other eateries & breweries in the area. We would love to go back for a longer stay next time!

We had booked our reservation at Piney Hill back in January, for our daughter's college graduation, and then Corona happened. Hank and Wiley were so awesome and communicated with us early about cancelling with a full refund, but we decided to ride it out and see if maybe we could do something. After her graduation ceremony was cancelled we were so hopeful this trip could happen. IT DID! It was so wonderful first, to see Hank and Wiley again, we are repeat guests. We arrived around dinner time, and they greeted us at the door, couldn't see the smiles we knew were there because we were all wearing masks. LOL They let us know of the adaptations they had made to make us all safe, and we knew his was going to be a good visit. They let us know about dinner options, and where there was outdoor seating for meals. We had asked Hank to bake us a cake for our daughter and he made the BEST peanut butter chocolate cake I EVER had tasted (I am not exaggerating). The cake was in the mini fridge in our room waiting for us.
The room was perfect and we got the adjoining suite for our daughter.
Hank and Wiley had made reservations for us for horse back riding, and that was soooo much fun. They also had given us some other places we could take our daughter on. We went to the Shenandoah Caverns per their suggestions as Luray Caverns was still closed. Breakfasts with Hank and Wiley are about as gourmet as you can get. DELICIOUS!
The next day we were supposed to go rafting, but the river was too high due to ran, so they suggested a hike in the Shenandoah National Park. It was so gorgeous. They knew the trails so well, ad were able to advise us as to which one would provide a beautiful waterfall, and be easy enough for us because we aren't pro hikers. The day was perfect and our 21 year old daughter said it was one of the best vacations we have ever taken.
Hank and Wiley make you feel like family. I was sad when we left, but had no doubt we were safe, and we had the best trip during this time we possibly could have. You would never get the personal attention given to us at an AirBNB or a hotel. Hank and Wiley truly allow you to enter as strangers, but leave as friends. We can't wait to go back. We will always stay with them when in Luray!

My husband and I enjoyed a glorious five night stay at Piney Hill in the Hurley Byrd Cottage. The cottage was immaculate, cozy, well-appointed, beautifully decorated (bird theme, of course!). Our breakfast was promptly delivered in a handsome picnic basket each morning on or before 8:45am. The breakfasts were amazing, delicious, and different every day! Fresh fruit, orange juice accompanied by delectable savory breakfast strata, quiche, French Toast, blueberry or apple coffee cake - all freshly homemade with seasonal ingredients! We also enjoyed the little “surprise” treats delivered to our cottage on some days: yummy fresh baked cookies, artful and decadent cupcakes, amazing apple pumpkin cake slices.

Hank and Wiley are attentive, kind and caring hosts with great attention to all the details to make your visit pleasurable and memorable. One evening they organized a gathering of guests around the fire pit, complete with S’mores fixings! It was a lovely evening chatting with other guests.

If you are wanting to experience the charming town of Luray and explore the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, including the National Park, Piney Hill is the perfect location. Hank and Wiley provide a wealth of information on restaurants, shops, hiking trails, points of interest, etc.

Piney Hill B&B is nestled amongst picturesque farm pastures and has gorgeous views of the mountain ranges.

I highly recommend Piney Hill and hope I have the opportunity to visit again.

Beautiful property! My husband and I stayed 2 nights in the Emma Rufner Rogers Room for our wedding anniversary. It has a spectacular view of the mountains that I just could not get enough of each morning! The room and bath were immaculately clean and Hank and Wiley took Covid very seriously which I really appreciated. I’m a bed sheet snob, but there’s did not disappoint. The sheets were so soft I went right on Amazon and ordered a pair before I even left the property. Hank was super knowledgeable and helpful in planning our hike in the Shannendoah Park. He took time to explore what we were looking for in our hiking adventure so he could recommend the perfect trails- and he did! He even sent us off with our own trail map! The food was AMAZING! In addition to breakfast each morning he prepared a yummy selection of fresh baked cookies each day and also left a slice of cake by our door one evening! I have to say, sitting by the fire pit hearing Hanks comedic stories our last night was one of the highlights. If you are looking for down to earth, funny, and all around genuine hosts, Hank and Wiley are it! They were great! Highly recommend this B n B!

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast! Hank and Wiley are the best hosts greeting us when we arrived in the rain and ensuring we were comfortable the entire trip! It felt like home immediately. We stayed in the Emma Ruffner Room which had the quaintest appointments through out. The entire home was warm and cozy, exceptionally clean and you could really tell the care and attention to detail Hank and Wiley provide. The entire property is something out of a book. Beautiful views of the mountains, and green pastures with roaming stock. There is a farm next to the property that had the cutest piglets who love a squeal with excitement! While Hank and Wiley have no live stock they do have the sweetest family pets like Gypsy and not to be missed Bob! And lets not forget breakfast. All I can say is absolutely Delicious! If you are ever going to visit the Shenandoah make sure you book a room or cottage at Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast! It is the best by far and not to be missed!

There is an entrance to the national park closer to the B&B, maybe half an hour away. Breakfast was served a bit after 8, but you can reach out to the owners if you have any questions-- they're very helpful!
