This hotel is top notch. Everyone was very helpful and professional. My husband is in remission from stage 4 throat cancer so I wanted to find a hotel close to the Plaza and the Cathedral, so he wouldn't have to do too much walking. This place was the perfect choice as everything is within walking distance. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite in the La Terreza area and had a very memorable experience. The room was beautiful. Our 1st stay here and we plan to return! We had dinner at the restaurant here, which was very reasonable and food was delicious. We definitely would recommend this place to others.

We stayed in a Deluxe King Room (#114 at approx $250/night) which provided a lot of extra room for us to spread out and also relax in the evening. There was a large bottle of Canyon Road Chardonnay waiting with a Happy Birthday card for me, which was a lovely touch. The room was large and clean. There was a walk-in shower but few toiletries. We were glad that we brought our own shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was no housekeeping during our 5 night stay and our garbage was overflowing by the time we left. We had drinks and snacks the first night at the rooftop bar. The sunset did not disappoint. It was crowded and we did have to wait an hour, which we passed in the lobby bar. We had breakfast each morning at La Plazuela, which was tasty. We didn’t have to wait for a table. The lobby was crazy crowded during the day and evening; lots of people coming and going. I really liked the Detours shop. The other shops were a bit pricey for me. We self parked at $30/day but we did have unlimited in and out, which was good. The garage was rather tight to maneuver in but we managed not to hit anything with our large SUV. Many of Santa Fe’s sites of interest were within walking distance which was convenient. We did not use the whirlpool or pool but I did use the fitness room. I didn’t like being on the ground floor but it was quiet. I will probably stay a bit off the beaten path if I return. That said, the hotel is a solid choice and if you are not sure where to stay, I would recommend it.

Dear ScDGal2001, I appreciate you taking the time to write such a thorough review! As part of our ongoing Covid protocols, we offer Housekeeping service on request, as we've found some guests prefer not to have anyone enter their room. You should have received a welcome letter explaining this upon arrival. In spite of that, I am pleased to read you enjoyed your stay with us! Thank you once again. Best Regards, Rik Blyth General Manager

We have been coming to Santa Fe since my sister moved here more than 40 years ago and have always stayed with her at her house near the Plaza. However, on this trip, our first since before Covid, my husband, son and I stayed at La Fonda as a special birthday treat for me. I had always wanted to stay here and we made it happen. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. It is a beautiful and historic property. La Plazuela, the restaurant, was fabulous although we only ate lunch there. The fact that we could step out the door and be on the Plaza was a real treat. Covid protocols were enforced and everyone we saw, staff and guests alike, wore masked in the public areas. We loved out 2 days there.

My wife and I wanted this hotel because of the history. The first night we stayed there the temperature dropped into the 30’s. The heat in the hotel did not work at all. We were freezing. We shivered all night. Our bed only had a sheet and a blanket. Not sure why they wouldn’t make beds with duvets during colder seasons. The next day we got a call from the desk saying there would be people up to fix our heat. So other guests must have complained about how cold it was. They fixed the heat and whatever blew out of the vents gave us constant nose bleeds and sore throats for the remainder of our stay. I’ve never been so uncomfortable in a hotel room. The food downstairs in the restaurant was fabulous but that’s not enough to make up for our lack of sleep and feeling ill. As soon as we left the hotel room and headed home our symptoms subsided.

Dear lighteningstrike81, I regret you had issues with the heating system in your room and apologize for your discomfort. When the seasons change, there can be a lag in the switch over from air conditioning to heating, this happens in many older hotels. La Fonda, in particular, having been built in stages over the past 100 years, has 3 separate heating systems for our 180 rooms. Since we reached out to you about the heat, without you reporting anything, I believe you were staying in a section of about 20 rooms that do have a rather time-consuming method of starting up the heat for the winter months. When requested, we do provide extra bed coverings and even space heaters. Some folks, including myself, actually prefer to sleep in cooler temperatures. I'm almost certain the respiratory issues you related were caused by the dryness of the air in New Mexico. If you are not from the Southwest, having the relative humidity in single digits is a shock to the system. I hope you give us another try, the issues you mentioned are not common occurrences. Best Regards, Rik Blyth General Manager
