You can see what's happening. An incredible property in need of renovation that's in the in between stage. The check in area and adjoining room and bar are beautiful. When you arrive to check in you'll see the plans for the transformation. This historic property is a soon to be regional masterpiece. For now, yes it's clear it needs some... More

We knew going in that there would be no restaurant. But there is no excuse for the poor, poor, poor service. Our room was not made up and refreshed when we returned at 4:00 pm. They said it was due to staff shortages...read management incompetence. This facility is pending a multimillion dollar rehab and I think they have moved into... More

When we arrived, we discovered that the restaurant was closed. No room service available. The Spa was closed as was the pool area. Room was clean but the property is in need of renovation which is why the amenities I mentioned above were not available. My husband has allergies to mold and the room smelled musty and he had a... The Bishop's Lodge has very spacious rooms, very romantic with the gas fireplace, wooded patio and garden tub with a separate shower. The horseback riding trails are a great way to see the beautiful piney forests and mountain vistas, and the staff are very accommodating. They have great deals and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit as the resort is very... More

This morning my wife and I went on a spectacular horseback riding activity. Our wrangler was Alfonzo and he was simply amazing. Very attentive, took us on a great tour, and looked after our needs and safety. Horses were awesome, and the scenery was amazing.

We just came back from a weekend at Bishop's Lodge, and I was anxious as to what we would find from other recent reviews. This beautiful old place is in a rural setting on the outskirts of Santa Fe, but still close to town. If that is what you desire (we did), then your expectations should be met. It IS... More

I was told by the front desk that in October they would be closing for 12-18 months for a remodel. I'm very much looking forward to staying again once that happens. Currently, many of the amenities such as the spa, restaurants, room service & bar are already closed "for the season". We weren't alerted to any of this when we... More

Lovely tree-lined walking paths and abundant greenery abound on this property. We understood that the rooms are old and the entire place is undergoing renovation but we were not prepared for there being no service available for dinner. Usually this is no problem, but this place is a ways out of Santa Fe proper. They did provide a nice breakfast... More

It is a beautiful place. The grounds are wonderful to do a walkabout. It has ivy covered pathways, fountains, waterfalls, and small ponds that make for a wonderful leisurely stroll. There is a fine croquet area that begs for a big family to play. It smacks of history that only New Mexico seems to have. There is a renovation underway... More

I had a great time at the Bishop's Lodge after a 10-year hiatus from Sante Fe. The horses were lovely as well as the old charm of the Southwest in the rooms and the ambiance of the ranch. The staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. When I had car trouble, front desk manager/ concierge, Sean immediately came to the rescue.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In August of 1851, a Frenchman, Jean Baptiste Lamy, arrived in the NM Territory as the first Bishop of Santa Fe. Here he built a private retreat; his chapel still stands today, now on the national register of historic places. After Lamy's Death, the land was acquired by the Pulitzer publishing family as a private vacation retreat. In 1917, the Thorpe family from Denver fell in love with these pristine acres, bought the property and developed the first resort in the state. Today Bishop's Lodge comprises 15 lodges for a total of 110 rooms ranging in sizes from 250 sq feet to 450, not to mention a 2000 sq foot Presidential Suite. Many of our rooms feature fireplaces and the majority all have outdoor access to patios, lawns or balconies. Our ShaNah Spa and Wellness Center which opened up in June of 2002 is a sanctuary where one can take time out to be nurtured by Mother Nature, guided by ancient wisdon and touched by angels. The experience may change your life. Other activities are abundant such as: trap/skeet shooting (offered to groups of 10 or monmre roomnights), horseback, pony trail rides, hiking, mountain biking, fitness center, excercise studio, outdoor pool, whirlpool and tennis to mention a few. Bishop's Lodge is located just 3 miles from the Historic Santa Fe Plaza. Complimentary shuttle service is provided by the lodge at scheduled times daily. ... more   less
