This was our second stay at the Inn and it was just as memorable as the first time. Firstly, you can’t beat the convenience of the location, walkable to many local restaurants, shops and the ferry only a couple blocks away. Even with the close proximity to town, the grounds feel very secluded from the tourist hustle and bustle.
The friendly team at Tucker House makes you feel at home even before check in, with great communication and ease of booking. Our favorite amenity is the included breakfast which was left at our door each morning and full of delicious, local goodies. Not your average continental offering, that’s for sure! Susan was even kind enough to arrange for a “to go” option for us when we had to check out early to catch our ferry back home. Thank you, Susan, Glen, and team!
The cozy rooms have so much character and promote authentic “island vibes”. So much thoughtfulness has gone into the details and it makes you feel like you are staying with family. Both rooms we stayed in were immaculately clean and had all the amenities we could ever need, including coffee, tea, and snacks that were replenished daily.
I could go on, but I’ll just say that we are already planning our return trip! Thanks again for a great weekend getaway.
We stayed in the Middleton Suite which was so cute and very very comfortable, it was like a home away from home feel with everything you may need at the ready.
We were staying here for our anniversary, which was still within covid times so all communication was through email. Communication was very clear and concise for instructions on how to get there, how to order breakfast, where to find your room how they are doing check in and offerings to help book things. There was also a lovely email wishing us a happy anniversary and a gift in the fridge for us (we did leave it behind hoping that someone else may have a greater appreciation for it, but we really loved the sentiment of it!).
I really loved they found away around during the trying times of covid to still provide a breakfast. It was lovely to sit with the door open each morning and have little baskets dropped off at the door and a friendly good morning greeting. The food was very good, we both really enjoyed the yogurt granola cups! The yogurt was very pleasantly mild which we both greatly appreciated with fresh fruit and very flavorful and filling granola topping. One morning the cups came with watermelon in them, we both though this was an interesting combination, but it seriously worked together, loved it!
Also loved the homemade hand soap in the bathroom!
We went on a long bike ride on the island and after we came back tired and wanting to rest, it was so nice down on main deck there was live music provided by one of the owners. To lay and rest in the room and just enjoy the music was lovely.
Couple things to share just for people who read reviews, that I didn't pick up on but not a criticism in any way.
Middleton Suite is a separate unit but it is a ground floor unit so there are two units above. So you may have people above you that haven't lived above others before.
Also the unit is not air conditioned and we are having an unusally hot summer, but they did provide a little fan in the room, they also have all the windows open upon arrival.
Oh and just be warned but not concerned about, in the kitchen I believe there is a pump to pump the drain water up to sewage level, it can be loud and startling. It doesn't effect anything other than if you have someone resting you may want to avoid using that sink, but again not a big deal.
The biggest and happiest thing is the Tucker house is just a couple short blocks from downtown Friday Harbor, we parked our car when we arrived and walked the rest of the time until we ended our stay. Seriously wonderful how close it is, but be prepared for hills
I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to stay here in no covid times to experience it at it full splender.
The king bed was so comfortable I slept until morning without stirring. The little patio was a perfect spot to rest with the afternoon sun on my face after a bike ride to Roche Harbor. The outstanding breakfast was delivered in a wire basket each morning. Sweet snacks were delivered in the afternoon. Our dietary needs were met and exceeded our expectations!
The complimentary bicycles are of good quality. There are also complimentary kayaks for use but we simply ran out of time.
The Tucker House has thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and safe. The entire property is so very clean. We will definitely recommend the Tucker House.
First of all, the mattress. My husband has a bad back, so this is always our first consideration. They were willing to take the feather topper off for us as my husband cannot tolerate anything soft. The mattress was then nice and firm and very comfortable for both of us. The pillows were fluffy and comfortable.
We could very easily adjust the temperature in the room with our own thermostat.
The breakfasts here were fabulous! Different every day, gourmet style and definitely not typical hotel fare. An egg on hash browns, breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos and always we could select a granola and fruit yogurt parfait which was delicious and hearty with plenty of nuts in addition to homemade granola. We also loved having a French press for coffee.
The breakfasts came in bento boxes, glass jars and were accompanied by cloth napkins and real silverware. This was close to zero waste. We appreciated being in a room with glass cups and a real wood bed frame.
Glenn and Susan were wonderful hosts and made excellent suggestions for area activities!
rather than the next morning for a quick jaunt around
the island and booked a single night at Tucker house in
the Shaw Suite. I experienced great communication
with the staff regarding check in, and they even called in
the afternoon the day before to check about dietary
restrictions and to direct me to place our breakfast
order. Our suite was pet friendly and when we arrived
in the evening the office was closed but there were
snacks out for us (including a delicious gluten free
scone for me) and even a pup muffin for our furry
companion. They also had a food and water bowel out
with drip towels to make here feel at home. The room
had a full kitchen (though I didn't notice if there was an
oven) and many nice touches such as a couple of nice
robes and a bottle of milk and OJ in the fridge. There
were plenty of towels and extra blankets in this studio
apartment sized room, and a dining table with four
chairs. Rather than a couch there is a day bed with
trundle for extra guests, along with the queen size bed
which was comfy, had amazing sheets. The bathroom
was small with a shower, but well appointed and with
great water pressure! We didn't use the jacuzzi or log
into the wifi, so I can't speak to that, but an amazing
gourmet breakfast was delivered to our door including
an equally delicious gluten free version. 12/10 would
recommend this homey, lovely little place!
Easy up hill access to the ferry, loved the parking lot entrance short cut to the entrance instead of climbing the hill all the way and yet the lovely little patio and surrounding trees still make you feel like you’re not on the road.
No steps ground floor but safe.
The bathroom plumbing was very up-to-date great shower effective toilet nothing old here in the kitchen was also remodeled and contains all we needed.
I loved all the natural light and yet you felt like you could leave the blinds open because of the patio and green space.
Perfect amount of in person text and email contacts from the management making sure you were OK.
Great breakfast and they even packed to go breakfast to leave early for the ferry the next day.
Could’ve used a full-size mirror on the wall somewhere since you are sharing a bathroom but it was nice to have an extra sink in the kitchen for brushing teeth etc. You only get two keys but we made that work.
Relatively quiet location although close to town, no noise from town but you could hear the ferry announcements if you have the windows open which we enjoyed since the weather was perfect.
