Spend a night...Not a fortune! It's really simple: Smaller Rooms = Smaller Rates. At The Orca Inn, we are proud to offer the smallest rooms in the state of Washington! Which means we have the lowest hotel room rates on San Juan Island. (Of course, for just a few dollars more, we have larger King and Double Queen rooms). With the money you save, you can spend more on amazing whale watching tours, incredible kayak trips, and other island adventures that you will remember for a lifetime. As Mr. Carson once said, "The business of life is the acquisition of memories." And at the Orca Inn, business is good!

My top priorities: Clean-yes, bed comfort-good. New fixtures, microwave, fridge are tiny, A/C-heat all in good working order. Knotty pine paneling reminiscent of our lake cabin. Yes floor space is single file but if, like us, you just want a base for activities the price is right. We stayed in room 114.

This was my second time to stay at the Orca Inn. We had a room with 2 queen beds which was great since the single bed room would have been quite small for the 2 of us. The room was clean. You can hear commotion/ movement from fellow travelers. We were on the island to cycle so didn't spend much time relaxing in the room or outside at the picnic tables. If you are looking for minimal frills and a warm place to sleep, this works out fine. Good location to the Food Coop and grocery market. No coffee or ice "d/t covid.

Room Tip: Clarify what amenities ( coffee, ice) are available. Housekeepers did wear masks.

They're cabin-style rooms with a several units in one single-story building. Ours had a queen bed, mini fridge, and microwave, but no coffeemaker. Space is tight for 2 persons in one room. The room is clean, but the shower had a flimsy curtain. The internet and heater worked well. It's very affordable in a place like San Juan Island. There is a bakery nearby, and parking is free.

Booked a room via Expedia for the wrong evening by mistake. Attempted to contact the hotel via phone to cancel multiple times, no one ever picked up. Expedia attempted to contact via email and phone, never received a response. The evening I had booked (and could not make), the owner calls me to find out where I am. When I explained that I and Expedia had attempted to contact him about a cancelation, he got belligerent with me. I can only imagine how hard it must be to run a hotel in these times. Cursing at potential customers doesn't seem like an effective way to run a hotel business.

There is nothing special about this place at all. With that being said, if you are looking for a decent place to simply sleep and store your belongings this is a great CHEAP place. The beds are medium comfortable and I wish there were extra blankets bc my husband was cold. There were two air conditioning units in the room. We normally go all out on hotels but this was a quick trip to the Island and we wanted to spend our money on wine and dining. The rooms are small. If you have more than one person, get the double room. You will not regret it. If you have more than 2 adults and 2 small kids, get multiple rooms. The Orca Inn was clean and the staff we interacted with were very friendly. It is just shy of a mile walk from the marina or ferry. If you have luggage and are walking, I suggest bringing a collapsible wagon to haul your stuff (it will also serve as storage in your tiny room). This place is nothing to write home about but it gets the job done.
