Sadly, this would have been a five star review, had it not been for the last five minutes of our visit to Lakedale. Before we arrived, I received a call from the lodge, stating that the keys to our cabin would be on a table outside the lodge for “contactless check-in”. At first, I assumed this was some sort of weird post Covid health precaution, but I now realize that the intent was probably to keep the lowly cabin guests out of the lodge lobby. The stay in our cabin was nice. The cabin was very clean, well-maintained, and quite comfortable. Upon checkout, however, things went sour. My husband, our 2 teenaged sons, and I entered the lodge lobby to hand in our keys and check out. (For reference, my sons are quiet, well-behaved young men, aged 16 and 18.). After handing in keys, we spent no more than two minutes browsing the shirts and gifts in an area near the check out desk. I then walked over to an area of the lobby that had information about wine the lodge was selling from a nearby winery, and my husband and boys went over to a chess table and sat down (They were completely quiet, whispering if anything. They also had no intent to stay and play hours of chess, as we had reservations for an event coming up.). There were zero other people in the lobby (no one). I then went to the front desk, inquired about the local vineyard and asked the front desk attendant if she knew if the vineyard was open. In one curt sentence, she said, “I don’t know if they are open, but our lobby is reserved for lodge guests only.” I stood there in shock for a brief moment, nodded my head, and then went to tell my husband and boys that we were not allowed in the empty lobby. While I understand the necessity and importance of rules and regulations, sometimes it is wise for one to put social graces ahead of petty rules, especially when five star reviews, wine purchases from your lodge, and repeat patronage is at stake. My husband and I are already planning a return trip to San Juan Island. Undoubtedly, we will not return to Lakedale. My advice would be to spend the $400 a night for a lodge room if you do not want to be treated like second class cabin riffraff (which, ironically, costs $600 per night . . .)

Response from Karl Bruno, General Manager at Lakedale
Responded today
Hello oktraveler1978 Thanks for staying at Lakedale ! Our Lakedale lodge is an adult only facility that is available to guests of the lodge only. Were sorry you did not see this specific information on our website, welcome letter or the sign posted at the lodge door. While this rule may seem odd to some, our lodge guests appreciate that we have a special space that is quiet and just for the 10 rooms in our lodge. Lodge guests also enjoy breakfast and our awesome deck that has a spectacular view of Lake Neva ! These rules have been in place for 15 years and our regular lodge guests expect to see us enforce our policy. While we do hope that you would return we respect your opinion and understand your perspective. Sincerely, Karl Bruno G.M Lakedale.

We came to Friday Harbor to go on a whale watching tour. We booked late, which left us with limited options for an overnight stay. I am so thankful we were able to book one night at the Lakedale Lodge. Excellent communication before we arrived. Easy to book and find on our GPS. As soon as we drove onto the property, I was planning a trip back with our extended family. I loved seeing all the families having fun outside. Our room in the Lodge was comfortable and had a spectacular view of the Lake. Loved the deck and we had s peaceful stay. Bed and pillows were perfect, which is important for me. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning with our family for som Glamping. The drive to the Ferry in Friday Harbor is about 15 minutes.

We weren't sure what to expect, but we loved our stay at Lakedale Resort! The breakfast (omelette + potatoes, and a selection of fruit / bread) was delicious and filling, the staff very friendly, and the views from our room at the Lodge peaceful.

We stayed in the log cabin and it was well-cleaned, pet friendly and so cozy. The entire property is so beautiful and has everything you could need. Getting to the resort was a fun adventure on the ferry.

This was a beautiful place to stay. The lodge amenities were perfect including a fireplace in each room, jetted bathtub and deck with view of the lake. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was great with a little bit of anything you could want. The off-season discount was appreciated and included a bottle of sparkling wine and gift bag.

Whether you like camping in your own tent or glamping in a luxurious yurt, you'll find everything you need at Lakedale. They've thought of every scenario. We stayed in a yurt, which was like staying in a gorgeous condo in the woods, but I would like to go back and try the lodge, log cabins, and tent camping areas too. There are plenty of activities for everyone, and each area feels private and special.

First time to Friday Harbor, San Juan Island - picked a fantastic lodge to stay at! The staff was top notch - from Carla and Heather at the front desk to Tiara and Jordan serving breakfast (great omelet makers!). The entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel like family. The lodge is spectacular - all rooms are very well done (they even let us tour the different room layouts to guarantee our satisfaction). The 'great room' is impressive - excellent layout and has awesome views of the lake. Already planning our next visit there! Melanie & Jerry V (Seattle)

So glad we found this great location lodge for our exploration of the island. The lodge room was stylish, comfortable and cozy with a beautiful view of the lake. All the lodge and room amenities were thoughtfully planned and arranged, the staff we encountered all cordial and attentive. We loved the breakfasts - just made a lovely start to each day. We've have recommended Lakedale when our son and his wife who live north of Seattle visit the island. .

The price was a bit high for us, but we went during the off season for a little less. We had a fantastic time. There weren't many people there and there were no organized activities like during the summer. But our family still had a blast on the boats, the huge chess board, the old bikes, and seeing the amazing wildlife. The yurt was more luxurious that a lot of hotels I've stayed in. We will definitely be back.
