Given how poorly customers and staff have been treated in the service industry this past year, I was amazed at the level of service I received at this hotel for my weekend medical conference. Front desk worker Marisha went out of her way to assist with a needed late check-out, offered excellent tour and restaurant recommendations, and even provided me with a needed complimentary continental breakfast on my final day. She was consistently cheerful, warm, and engaging. All other employees greeted me and engaged in conversation, including Larry, the groundsman I met early in the morning by the pool. The hotel is well-kept, with a beautiful outdoor pool, gazebo, and walking area on-site. This is the best stay I've had since 2019.

The Marriott Plaza is a lovely hotel and what I think of when considering the beautiful history of San Antonio. However - it is the amazing staff that have made my week here an over-expectations experience. Specifically Banquet Captain, Veronica Hernandez and her cohort, Blanca Rios. I was setting up for a breakout session during the conference I was attending, and Veronica and Blanca checked on me multiple times to make sure I had everything I needed - they even brought additional supplies when they saw I didn't have enough ice and napkins. When I had a ways to walk and set of stairs to climb with my conference session supplies (a big bag and large box of folders) Veronica was magically at my elbow and carried my stuff for me to the stairs and then took the box up to my session room with charm and grace. EVERYONE from the valet to the front desk staff and literally everyone in between has been OUTSTANDING! Well done, Marriott Plaza in collecting such a wonderful group of genuinely hospitable people.

We stayed on the fourth floor and had a balcony view of the pool. Older rooms but in a stately way and not in a negative one. Great service at check-in and at the pantry. Excellent service at breakfast as David A. joked with us and took the time to ensure we had a great two mornings during our two night stay. The grounds are well taken care of and feel like you are in a historical building. Staff legitimately acts like they enjoy their jobs here. Short distance to River Walk. A couple of excellent restaurants near by. Less people and less traffic on this side of the city. Will surely stay again.

The San Antonio Plaza Hotel is located in the downtown area, two blocks south of the river-walk which makes it close to everything. Its 80 to 100 dollars cheaper than the big hotels on the river. The hotel is build around a large wooded, garden and pool area so it has a different feel to it. Its more like home than a hotel. The pool and jacuzzi are open in the middle of a wooded area (and they are nice too), breakfast and dinner are now being served daily. Bar is open also, and of course the most important part, the margaritas for really good. If you like Mexican food, and I do, its a short walk to some very special ones. The best part of the hotel is the staff. They are excellent, helpful, polite and want your stay to be memorable. I am here every week, you will love this place! John

We travel quite a bit with my husband’s work. We spent some time in wine country and decided to stay a couple nights in San Antonio otw back to Houston. This particular Marriott in our eyes leaves a lot to be desired. Check In We arrived shortly after 12, tried to check in however no rooms available. They took our phone number and promised to call shortly when one became available. No biggie we wandered around the Riverwalk for a little over 3 hours still no call so we made our way back to the lobby asked again and a room was ready. We went up to our room to find shredded toilet paper in a dirty toilet. Then discovered toilet clogged. Called in a maintenance call. They arrived rather quickly said they fixed the issue and left. We then noticed a small amount of sludge (??) left on the bathroom floor. I was so grossed out at this point. I wiped the entire restroom down with Lysol wipes. Throughout the evening we discovered the issue wasn’t completely fixed just not clogged anymore, The toilet would flush after several attempts and just shred the toilet paper. The following morning upon getting showered we discovered the shower wasn’t draining properly. Slow to drain. We also noticed the balcony door wouldn’t lock the only thing keeping it secured was the security bar. Then the icing on the cake was when I moved out to the vanity area to finish styling my hair so my husband could get ready and noticed a large black cricket looking thing on the floor. Mini heart attack! On our way out for the day, we mentioned the issue with the toilet hasn’t been resolved and asked that they send someone up to have another look while we were out. They suggested we change rooms and they had one directly across the hall. They also offered free continental breakfast vouchers which we didn’t use. So we went back to our room and moved all our belongings across the hall. Room was smaller and even more outdated the 1st room we were in. No biggie at this point we just wanted a safe clean place to sleep. Upon returning back to the hotel. I pulled the curtain back and noticed something fall. I looked on the floor to see yet ANOTHER big black cricket looking thing ( obviously an exterminator is needed) we then discovered the restroom in this new room has similar issues. Again toilet would flush but would shred the toilet paper and you would need to flush twice every time. On our last morning at the hotel. I had just gotten out of bed . When I heard someone call housekeeping. I wasn’t sure if it was at our door or another as it sounded kind of faint. So I waited a second to listen closely to see if it was outside our door or someone else’s Before I had a chance to respond, our door was opened. Thankfully I had the security latch closed. This was 9:18am. Check out was at 11am! Overall a disappointing stay . Not the experience one would expect from the Marriott brand. Hotel is in major need of an update. Courtyard and pool area are very nice. Lobby area also looked good but guest rooms transport you back to the early 80’s. It seriously looks very tired and worn. The staff we encountered were friendly and smiling. We didn’t bother complaining or making an issue of the other issues. I honestly felt there was nothing the staff could do to fix any of this. Was definitely a management/owner issue where exterminators and remodeling or updates are concerned. We typically stay at either the Grand Hyatt or the Hilton when we are in town. We tried saving a few dollars booking with Priceline. Lesson learned.
