Before booking, I had looked through numerous air bnb’s (hotels were too pricey, so out of the question) all around the same price range ($80-$100) a night. I found O’Caseys, which I thought would be a better option because it was an actual bed and breakfast (supposed to include breakfast), but we never got breakfast? I asked about it and was told instead of bringing breakfast to the room, you get a service voucher to a nearby restaurant. I was still glad that we at least got something, but when we went to the restaurant and asked about the voucher they said it was a $5 value, which ended up only covering two pastries. I felt like this was dishonest, since there was even a menu in the room that stated what they would have prepared for breakfast each day! Overall, I was disappointed and felt like I could of stayed at an air bnb and had an entire house to myself at the same price of staying here with just a private room (you are in a house with all of the rooms right next to each other). On a plus side, the lady who I communicated with was very nice and the place was charming!

Hi ewalker! Thank you for your review, Especially the last line!! It is a very charming place! :-) I'm very sorry for your breakfast experience. Updating websites, room books, and all forms of media has been a challenge for us during COVID. I wasn't managing the property at that time of your stay and the vouchers, Vouchers were offered to help us manage during COVID. My apologies it didn't work for you, we still hope to have you back to O'Casey's! Please note, we no longer offer breakfast in a basket at your door. We have a nice continental breakfast every morning in the dining room.

The home is located in a nice neighborhood with beautiful old homes. Our room had a balcony with chairs that we enjoyed every evening. The home is old and creaky but very clean and full of beautiful furniture. It does not have HVAC but the window unit kept our room cool. There are a lot of outside sitting areas that are very cozy. We walked to La Fonda Mexican restaurant for a delicious meal, then drove 1.5 miles to the Pearl District for dessert. We would definitely stay again.

I likely have more good things to say than space permits. Delightful place, manager, and staff.

Centrally located in San Antonio. I say this as former long term San Antonio resident. In nice part of town and u can get pretty much anywhere within 20 minutes. La Fonda restaurant, a San Antonio classic, is about 2 blocks away.

We stayed in one of back cottages, which is a dog friendly room. Cute little 2 room cottage with good sized bedroom, very comfortable bed, and relaxing place to stay. There are several places outside to relax as well, including an outdoor fireplace, and two good sized porch swings.

I know where to stay next time I’m in San Antonio and hope y’all stay here too 😊

Just spend two nights at this Boutique Bed and Breakfast, and was very disappointed. From the outside the property is charming. Once inside, the place looks very rundown and you can tell it needs a lot of TLC. Decor is a hodgepodge of old furniture, not Antiques, which one would expect for place that advertises as a Historic Hotel, but more like discarded furniture mixed with Marshall’s decor. I will agree that this is a matter of taste, and can be overlooked. But, there were many details that just told of a lack of interest in keeping the property up. All door-locks, starting with the entrance, suite door and bathroom doors, are flimsy or falling apart. There was evidence of humidity in the paint job inside our room and bathroom. Our bathroom, although very spacious, was a sore disappointment. The hand sink looked dirty even if it was clean, because it has cracks and pealing paint. The clawfoot bathtub is very narrow, and had a horrible dark grey shower curtain that makes the tub feel even narrower. It also felt awkward going in and out of the tub, as there wasn’t anything to hold on to. There are no bathroom toiletries provided, except a large bottle of Panteen Shampoo, and a large bottle of body soap, which is acceptable, I guess, but doesn’t look good in my book. The bedroom decor was again a mix of styles, from antique looking to tacky with loud AC units. The breakfast included was sugary boxed cereal, microwave oatmeal cartons, boiled eggs in a bowl inside a mini fridge, grocery store bought bagels, and mini cupcakes. Nothing was fresh, nor was it presented with any culinary intent.

I will say the place is clean, there is good hot water pressure, and we always found a parking spot in front of the Boutique Hotel.

We spent our anniversary weekend in the Blarney loft and had a magnificent time. The room and bed were nice and cosy, and there were a lot of places outside to sit and read or just enjoy the outdoors. Downtown was only a short drive away, but staying here meant that the crowded feeling of downtown felt far away. Overall, had a great, relaxing weekend.

I am a resident of San Antonio but when several friends decided to visit I knew I couldn't host everyone. I decided to book a B & B near downtown for us all. O'Casey's was the perfect location. Close to everything but not in the downtown hustle and bustle. The Inn was comfortable and clean. Manager and staff were very nice and helpful.

In short: An impressive converted house, well situated, but severely let down by the hands-off, remotely managed model. Measured in the key categories* it scored just a 3.7 average.

The long story: O'Casey's is, in reality, a large posh house, located in a nice leafy residential neighbourhood, that's been converted into B&B rooms.

However, it's one of those professionally managed, unattended operations where you never see/meet the owners/operators at any time between check-in and check-out; everything is done remotely. I have stayed in places that did this to some degree, but never to this extreme, and there are significant downsides to this approach (or at least, how it's been executed at O'Casey's): although this posh house has lovely public rooms, you feel weird and awkward wondering about what is essentially a ghost house; no one is onsite regularly tending to the outside furniture, and they are so dusty that you cannot sit to enjoy the lovely gardens; breakfast is delivered to your door as a "picnic" but everything is pre-packed and/or single-serve and very impersonal and, quite frankly, pretty cheap and nasty.

The accommodation itself was fine - was stayed in the Clare Cottage around the back - and so it was lovely, peaceful, quiet, comfortable, and quite private. All nice, but let down by the management model. We actually stayed in June 2018, but I've been delayed in getting my reviews posted...

The acid test (that is, would I return): No; I found the lack of personal contact off-putting and the breakfast was pretty cheap.

I first found this listing on Airbnb but had an issue with dates, so I Googled the phone number and called Tarin personally. so glad I did! When I told her the room I was calling about she inquired who would be traveling and what the occasion would be. I told her my husband and I we're on a trip for my birthday, so she advised that there was a different room that might be better for us. I'm so glad we listened to her!

She set us up in the Casey Cottage in the Carriage House out back. It was romantic, comfy and an all-around great room for our little Excursion. Tarin has thought of everything you could need to have a comfortable retreat, from the bug spray & Flashlight for outside to the books in the little reading Nook and the bottle of water inside. The bed was large and comfy and it was nice having a ceiling fan and a table fan, I like to have a breeze when I sleep.

I was disappointed there wasn't a bathtub, but the shower was large and nice. The towels for big and fluffy. There was plenty of storage for all of our bathroom needs.

The main house is beautiful!! A well built, well decorated old mansion that has lost none of its charm. The rooms are decorated with period furniture that felt like you were back in the day when the house was lived in by a family.

The grounds are beautiful!! There are several outdoor seating areas, an outdoor fireplace and a laundry room. We are in a dry period so the flower looked a little dry, but that's too be expected at this time of year with numerous days of 100+ degree weather.

Breakfast was delivered to our room everyday and all of the baskets were yummy. In one of the baskets there was an empanada of which my husband had never heard of, when Terin explained it was a meat filled pastry my husband said oh like a hot - pocket? So he re-coined the name a hot-pock-itenada. Another day was an oversized Cinnamon roll. All of the baskets had juice and fruit along with the pastries

Check-in was easy, she sends you a text message with the key code and to the right of the door you will find your keys. Terin has several properties she manages and several more she is developing, so she's not on property, but she'll be there if you ask her to be and always answers her phone. When we saw her in person we were a little shocked at how young she is, because she runs this business as someone who's been in the business for decades. She truly cares about her guests and wants to make sure everyone has a comfortable and memorable experience with her properties.

I so wanted to give this place a five star review, but I can't. It is such a cute house, just beautiful. We did not stay in the main house, we stayed in the second floor of the guest house, or "The Blarney Loft." It was very cute and had a lot of potential, but really missed the mark. It's a very large room but unfortunately the owners have wasted the space. The bed was a full size. Luckily my husband and I are small people, but even then it was quite cramped. The room was plenty large enough for a queen or even a king size bed. The room also advertised a "kitchenette" but this was not accurate at all, not even a mini fridge in the room. The bathroom was smaller than the bathroom I just had on a cruise ship. The owners should consider adding a lighted vanity outside of the bathroom to greatly improve the functionality of the room as there is no room for getting ready in the bathroom. The bed was also not facing the TV, which made it uncomfortable to watch. The room was very clean and the window unit a/c worked quite well. We found the mattress and linens of good quality. The towels were old and somewhat tattered though. There is a gorgeous shared outdoor space as well, the garden was lovely.

Lauren- Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. The Blarney Loft is truly a unique room in a sense that it was built on top of what used to be an early 1900's Carriage House. I wish the bathroom could be larger, but unfortunately, when this section was added on (more than ten years before we took over the place) the bathroom was placed where it was due to plumbing concerns. The kitchenette we decided to take out due to the stove and refrigerator being rendered dangerous (stove would leak gas and fridge was very rusty). We are however, working on getting a mini fridge up there thanks to other guest feedback. I will look into the booking channel that you used when booking so that the error will be corrected on the listing. As for the other suggestions, thank you, we will certainly do our best to correct the issues with the room. We are constantly striving to improve O'Casey's, and we sincerely hope to welcome you back here soon! -Terin

I have stayed at O'Casey's on a couple of occasions as my daughter attends near-by Trinity University. My stays at the inn have been ideal for what I am looking for: a nice, quiet, safe, cozy place, near my daughter's campus that affords me privacy, safety and a place to kick back and relax while in San Antonio. Tucked in a quiet, historic neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the inn is about 10 minutes from the Riverwalk, downtown San Antonio, etc. Several restaurants are within walking distance and an evening stroll around the quaint neighborhood allows you to get to know the charming city of Monte Vista. I appreciate the small touches --
afternoon snacks upon arrival and roomside hot tea and coffee. The continental breakfast is perfect for one who does not need bacon, eggs and all the fixins. Manager Taryn has been extremely accommodating when we need an early departure or late arrival. On my last visit, I was lucky enough to enjoy the beauty of a spring storm perched in a rocking chair from the comfort of my room's private tin-roof-covered porch. I also adore taking my book and wiling the hours away from the swinging front-porch day bed. If you are looking for an extremely posh, cater-to-your-every-whim experience or a full-catered BnB experience, this may not be your place. If you are looking for a relaxing, shabby chic, cozy retreat, in a safe, historic neighborhood close to dining, nightlife and near-by colleges, O'Casey's will be the perfect, unpretentious fit -- just like your favorite, beloved pair of broken-in jeans. I am looking forward to my next visit to O'Casey's in a couple of weeks when my daughter accepts her college diploma!
