The hotel is old which is ok, but not maintained well. Tub caulking has mold in it and the tub resurfacing is peeling. Both of these are easy fixes and the replacing of caulking should be a regular maintenance item. Fellow traveler had same issue. Refrigerator in room froze everything.
I was expecting a more luxurious hotel but what I found was a place with dark rooms, dark hallways, and a dark lobby. Yes, there are renovations going on which should finish in June but that doesn’t have anything to do with the ambiance of the place. It’s located on a quieter part of the Riverwalk but still within walking distance of everything. Plan on going elsewhere for breakfast unless you’re OK with grab and go. No vending machines on property and the bar/quick bites closed an hour earlier than the posted 11pm closing time. The rooms are spacious and the beds were very comfortable. A lot of room for families which is a bonus. Staff observed following COVID protocols. Definitely felt safe staying there.
We booked this hotel after reading different reviews on Tripadvisor. We should have listened to the the average or less reviews. First we arrived at 7:00 p.m. and was told our room wasn't ready. Then they said they would call us when it was, didn't. After 2 hours which means it was 9:00 pm we went back and was told our room was ready. We were surprised as we entered the room to find it very nice and thought well ok they were having spring break and were busy. In the morning we saw that the room hadn't been dusted in who knows how long, all the dressers were very dusty. When we checked in we were told that house keeping isn't done for guests not staying less than a week, we were staying 7 nights. We had to make arrangements ofter 3 days for our room to be cleaned and garbage to be taken. We hoped the dust would be cleaned at this time. When we return the day they cleaned most things were good but the dust was still on all the dressers. On our first day we went to the lower lever on the Riverwalk and used the restrooms. Wow, very dirty and no paper towels. couple of days later we used these restrooms again and they were still not clean and no paper towels etc. Again we checked and the restrooms had been locked and unable to use. The restaurant was closed due to remodeling. The valet parking was so busy that you had to wait quite a while to get your car. Don't think I would go back to Hotel Contessa if I were to return to San Antonio.…
Unbelievable how much this facility is lacking any luxury. There’s no restaurant, the bar service is a fold up table on the second floor, and there’s not any sort of spa/salon facilities. Valet was expensive and for $275 a night for a King suite is a joke. The toilet was clogged, the pipes shook in my room when my upstairs neighbors showered or used the toilet, the bed is hard, and the walls are paper thin. I literally could hear my upstairs neighbors fighting with the front desk on their phone because they were only given one towel. I should not be able to hear my neighbors conversation at 11 pm at night. It’s not like the neighbors were screaming... the walls were just that thin. When I checked out with valet the people in front of me were brought their brand new SUV with the entire front bumper missing. Valet told them someone hit their car overnight and they were not liable. What a nightmare facility.…
My husband and I had moved from another hotel on the Riverwalk in San Antonio to this one and couldn’t have been happier about our choice. Vincent was so kind and accommodating and showed us around the hotel and gave us some room options. The rooms were spacious and the view was beautiful. The hotel backed onto the Riverwalk so we were able to walk down to our favorite restaurants in a matter of minutes. The pool was absolutely gorgeous. Very clean and relaxing. We truly couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The price was right and the hotel was fantastic. We had great interactions with all of the staff. Everyone was so friendly. This will be our go to spot from now on when we visit San Antonio.
