We had no idea what to expect after reading thousands of reviews. We traded Hilton Grand Vacation points through RCI to spend Thanksgiving with family. We are used to a full condo with kitchen and washer/dryer. If you check those expectations at the door, the Eilan provided a wonderful vacation experience. 1. The staff was awesome! My first contact was with Andrea & Angelica at the front desk. Both went above & beyond to help make our stay pleasant. 2. Yes, the room was a regular hotel room with only a coffeemaker and a small cube frig. We did a delivery from HEB on the first night of our stay. That, along with meals out got us through a weeklong stay quite well. We did not use the shared microwave, but I did see others using it. 3. The restaurant Sustenio is awesome. Nancy and Lilia both provided a high quality of service and quality. My husband loved the Tasso Pork Hash for breakfast. We had hoped to eat there more during our stay, but ended up not being able to go back. (They only serve brunch on Saturday & Sunday) El Mercado is convenient and has basic food options if you get stuck and need a quick meal. There are literally hundreds of restaurants within a one mile area at The Rim and surrounding areas. 4. One night we celebrated my husband’s retirement at Ruth Chris (just down the stairs). It was raining and we inquired about borrowing an umbrella. They did not have one, but Carl - a back office team member loaned us his personal umbrella. Although it was only a short walk across the promenade it kept us from getting totally soaked. Thanks Carl. 5. We decided not to rent a car. Once we figured in the cost of a car rental with the $35 per night parking fee, we came out ahead using Lyft when we needed to. If you do use the valet, they are awesome. There are other parking areas for free if you are willing & able to walk well and have patience you can try to find parking. I did not hear of any vandalism, but my son was warned about possibly getting towed if he parked at the apartment complex guest parking. 6. It appears that most of the negative reviews were from people who just wanted to complain. Yes, we had to wait for our room, but it was worth it. The lobby and other common areas are comfortable and quiet. So, we simply chilled out & waited. The reason our room was not ready was that housekeeping was short staffed. 7. There is no full length closet in the room. But, there are a lot of drawers and a small hanging area in a closet. The safe is on top. There is a really nice bag with the pool towels in it and we simply put that up on top of the safe. My dresses hung well in the lower half and we had packed enough for a week. (See closet in photos). 8. There is no laundry onsite. The front desk gave us a list of local laundries, but we were lucky enough to be able to use our son’s laundry halfway into our trip. Tip: you might want to bring extra hangers or ask for them if you need them. 9. Yes, there is no vent fan in the bathroom. Inconsequential to us. The bathroom is huge and even with my husband’s long showers the bathroom did not steam up. If you can, just bring some Poo Poo spray if sharing the bathroom. 10. The refrigerator was not the greatest, but we made it work. We bought a case of water and just rotated new bottles in as we used them. The hotel does give you 2 bottles of water per day, but if you want to stay hydrated you will need more. Similarly, you get limited K cups per day and there is only powered creamer. We bought liquid creamer in our HEB order (buy an 8 oz. or smaller container or it might not fit in the small fridge). We just made it a habit to stop by the front desk daily for water, K cups and sweetener/creamer each day. Or, you can ask for it to be sent up. There is also filtered water in the gym if you take your personal water bottle. You might want to bring your own coffee container with lid. 11. We did not get to use the outdoor pool, but the indoor one & the hot tub were wonderful. (It was cold & rainy). It wasn’t crowded and everyone was classy & well-behaved. Bring your own soap, shampoo, etc. if you want to shower before you head upstairs. They will provide it at the front desk. You will need a bracelet to use the amenities, but it is apparently not enforced. 12. The concierge desk is wonderful. They gave us maps, coupons, directions and shared advice. We got the hop on, hop off tour for two days with the boat ride. Warning- not the hotel’s fault- the buses do not necessarily drop you off at the safest or closest pony to the attraction, area. For instance, the stop for The Pearl is on a really busy corner. It is a good ten minute walk to La Gloria Restaurant and it wasn’t worth it. The stop for Market Square, however, was almost right in front. I would suggest taking the whole tour from the top deck if weather permits and then gauging what you & your party can handle. The Rio Boat ride was very pleasant and provides interesting information. 13. If you go on a marketing package for a reduced rate, gift card, etc. deal with it. Understand what you are signing up for. We did not attend a presentation and were not pressured to do it. We already own timeshares and don’t want to go to anymore presentations. 14. We did not go to the Spa at the Eilan. I felt that the prices were higher than I was used to and my daughter in law ended up taking me to another spa and paying for it. Win-win. But, if you are willing to pay premium prices go for it. They also have a self-service package, which is reasonable but maybe most suitable for those not staying at the resort. 15. Notable mentions: Louis from maintenance stopped by our room just to make sure everything was working ok. He changed the a/c filter and was very professional. Khlaeed with housekeeping brought us a blanket and I saw him later at the indoor pool cleaning. He is a hard worker and always had a smile on his face. 15. Lastly, I saw a lot of reviews about there not being enough light in the rooms. I have to admit some of the lights took a little figuring out because they are on switches. Some of the switches are in the bulbs themselves. Open the curtains and call maintenance if you can’t figure out the lights. The wi-fi was fine. We steamed movies and shows off our DVR at home and never had lag time.

Fabulous hotel on the outskirts of San Antonio, not too far from downtown. Beautifully decorated, spacious, clean rooms and modern bathrooms with excellent shower. Nice staff, a few restaurants on site, Japanese, Italian, Steak house. Spa centre and pool. Gorgeous lobby with open fireplace. Great views. Medium price range.

I am very particular in who touches and drives my car, mandatory valet is absurd. I know it is another way to nickel and dime people but I like getting in my car and going as I please instead of waiting on someone to retrieve it.

Staying at the Éilan has always been on my list to stay and finally had a chance to. Overall this hotel and surroundings has a romantic look of Italy with beautiful Tuscan architecture. It’s a hidden San Antonio gem. From the outside it has elegance and appeal but felt like a shell with little filings. The place felt a little dead for better if there were boutique shops and outdoor cafés. There was a mini train tracks but no train. When I arrive I first noticed the lack of parking where the self parking was in an isolated lot feeling why others felt nervous about leaving their vehicles there. I valeted my vehicle ($35) and they said they park the vehicle along the street, but do have a few spots in a garage. I went ahead and tipped them well and they parked my vehicle right in front. When I tried to check in after 4:00 PM but our room was not ready. My wife and I were not happy since we noticed those who were Bluegreen Vacation Clubs Members checked right in. I saw staff give them welcome packages and free food and drinks while we sat and waited. It seems like they got better service than my Choice Privileges membership. We did explore the place where found a spa, restaurant, coffee shop and indoor/outdoor pool. The coffee shop was great where they make breakfast tacos in the morning and sell a variety of convenience store items. After an hour and 45 minutes we finally were able to walk into our room located on the 9th floor with a nice view. The room felt small but did not mind it where it was luxuriously decorated with Italian decor. There was even a nice big bag with towels to take with you to the pool. Everything worked fine in the room and slept well. But as being a luxury hotel I expected better toiletries. The hotel is located on a hill and recommend walking down the stairs outside where perfect place to take portrait shots including at the big water fountain. The buildings surrounding the Éilan looks residential and also Italy inspired with nice color tones making it also an another great photo backdrop. There were a few restaurants at the bottom of the steps where one was Italian and the other steakhouse. Our short stay was nice despite the wait for our room and glad I was finally able to explore this property. It is geared more to adults even located very close to Six Flags.

Got to stay here while visiting my son and his wife. Located next to so many attractions, enjoyed having an indoor pool and hot tub. We had a junior suite and I enjoyed our view. Several restaurants on site that are delicious! I will stay here again!

I am a Bluegreen owner so this hotel was were my timeshare points brought me. The Eilan is an amazing hotel. I loved a lot of things about it: the beautiful facility, the very friendly and accommodating staff, the location, the lovely and spacious rooms, and THAT POOL. In the whole state of Texas, the Eilan pool was my very favorite place. Now let me tell you what I didn't love about the Eilan. I did not love the mandatory valet parking or having to pay for it (The valets were all awesome). I like the freedom of getting into my vehicle whenever I want without having to ask for it. I did not like the lack of kitchen or laundry facilities that we have grow accustomed to. I missed having even a small microwave or freezer in our refrigerator. I did not like the exhorbitant prices for everything in the hotel. I didn't like that you are pretty much forced to pay them or do without. For example you can't take outside for or drinks to the pool forcing you to pay the huge price for the food and drink at the pool bar...or do without. Overall I was satisfied with our stay and will cherish our memories of Eilan.

I spent a week at Eilan Hotel. This a beautiful facility with large pool and hot tub and one of the best gyms that you will find at a hotel. There was one problem with my stay and it was the size of the room. I booked a standard King room and it was the smallest hotel room that I have ever stayed in. To say that it was uncomfortable for me and my wife is an understatement. I requested a larger room but I was told by management that there were no larger rooms available That was hard to believe because I only saw three people on our floor during the 4 nights I stayed in that room. Finally on the 5th night they moved us to a double queen room which was at least twice the size and was a size that I normally stay in at hotels. So we did have 3 pleasant nights out of 7. Whatever you do never book a standard size King room at this hotel

Found out the hard way that if you expect turndown service during your week long stay. There is an additional $90 fee. So if you need toilet paper, your trash taken out, bed made, fresh towels for your room or the pool, a refill of the toiletries. Well you have to call the front desk and ask for those items. You must be present in the room when they delivered. So be prepared to wait after you call! This is not a luxury hotel!!!

I stayed at Eilan hotel and spa for my birthday getaway with hubby and I was pleasantly surprised. My hubby booked the spa and I was assisted by Mali, she is the best at what she does. I will definitely be coming back for hubby birthday and plan to do a couple massage hopefully I will have her again. Thanks Mali!

Stayed here August 5th to celebrate my wife's birthday. We have RCI and were pleased to find a “nice” hotel in San Antonio that would accept RCI points. We had very high expectations based on the website and looked forward to our stay for weeks. The valet service was great and I didn’t mind the 35 dollar fee for one night. The check in process, however, was abysmal--the first desk sent us to the second desk and the second desk sent us to the third desk, who (after trying to sell us a time share) then sent us back to the first desk--where we leaned of the “surprise” resort fee of 90 dollars for one night! I complained and they told us to contact RCi for a refund. (Guess what RCI said?) Our room wasn’t ready at checking time.. When they finally got us a room they acted like they were doing us a favor getting us into our room by 430. The room they put us in was laughable--with a beautiful view (not!) of the adjacent building’s roof. The room was tiny, dirty and smelled of stale fish. (Well--let’s hope it was fish.) My wife commented that they should probably turn that room into a janitor’s closet. The lobby was uncomfortably warm and stale smelling--as were the elevators. Don’t they make a spray for this? After the Blue Green salesperson complained on our behalf (so that we would consider extending our stay to attend her pitch) they “upgraded” us to another tiny, slightly cleaner room with a better view. So they charged the surprise 90 dollars (later learned this was a “housekeeping” fee) + 35 dollar valet fee (expected) + our 59 dollar exchange fee and our timeshare points for an 18 hour stay (check out is 10 and the pool opens at 11 btw.) --199 dollars to stay in a tiny, funky smelling room. They also have no breakfast facilities on site except a snack bar. We've had better Holiday Inn express experiences! Still waiting for a manager to contact me regarding the fee--will update this post if it happens. (Not hopeful.) All in all--a huge disappointment for what was supposed to be a very special night. Would not recommend. Did have an amazing meal at Ruth’s Chris--maybe they could train hotel staff on “the customer experience”? (Ugh.)
