This hotel is perfect for families especially in light of COVID. The hotel by city ordinance was not at full capacity. It felt like we had the whole resort to ourselves. Plenty of pools to chose from so you are able to adequately physical distance from another. On Friday and Saturday, the resort was busier. The staff here was amazing, especially housekeeping and the front desk. They assisted us with any request we had. A staff member even gave our children some milk cartons after we found out the local gift shop was closed. I would ask the hotel staff to remind guests at check in that they are required to wear masks in hallways. We did see some guests not wear them.
Booked a stay to unwind and was not disappointed. The property is astonishing and well taken care of. Front desk & restaurant staff were friendly. As a Titanium guest, was upgraded automatically to a suite, a nice touch to receive upgrade without request. Top notch service at the JW & recognition reminded me of the reasons I choose to be loyal to Marriott. Stay was on quiet side with great ambiance throughout hotel grounds, including multiple lighted fire places. Hotel management is doing a great job ensuring COVID safety measures were all are being followed. Enjoyed breakfast and dinner at 18 Oaks. Kids loved the pool and game areas (pool table). If you’re looking for a Family or couple’s retreat, look no further!
Overall it was a nice stay. The first night had some bumps. Our room was dirty to where it's likely only sheets were changed (hair in shower, dusty bathroom mirror, urine stain on toilet seat, crumbs on desk, slow draining sink, black stain on pillow case and blood stain on sheet). We got in late about 11:15pm. We went to our room and first noticed a large stain on the couch and a broken handle in the master. I called to the front desk to let someone know so we wouldn't be blamed for those things. In regard to that I was a little frustrated because I couldn't figure out how to call the front desk from the room phone. I'm sure it's because of COVID that papers that typically have that information were removed. The phone also didn't have it indicated. I used google to look up the hotel and called the front desk but my reception was not good. Anyway, the man that answered was nice and offered to move us to a new room but at this point it was already midnight and we were all ready to go to sleep after traveling 9 hours. At that point we also hadn't seen all the dirty things--just the broken things. Prior to that call at midnight I had been told at check-in if I needed extra pillows to use the app to order them. When we got to the room I could see we needed a couple of extra pillows along with sheets and a blanket for the pull-out sofa. I ordered those things on the app. I waited about 10 minutes and finally got a response in the chat box apologizing for the delay and someone would be with me soon. So after 30 minutes of waiting is when I finally called the front desk to explain the broken handle, stain on the couch and requests pillows and bedding for the sofa bed. During that waiting period which was another 30 minutes is when we began to notice all the dirty things. It was all definitely unpleasant and due to our hour wait waiting on bedding for our kids we didn't get to bed until 1am. The next morning we discussed with the front desk in person. We were so disappointed and grossed out from our night that we were considering leaving if we could break free from our reservation. The lady that helped us was friendly and easily offered us an upgrade at no additional cost. We appreciated the promptness to make the situation right going forward. However, we still feel the first night should have been discounted for what we were given. Our new room was great other than not being separate from the kids which was the layout of our previous suite. The water literally took at least 5 minutes to get warm and then waited longer for it to get hot. That really shouldn't be happening at this level of resort. In addition to this level of resort my husband and I think robes would be nice. :) The rest of the stay was mostly good. Any disappointments or dissatisfaction were mostly related to Covid I assume. Crooked branch was closed our entire stay. We really enjoyed utilizing it during our last stay so we could sit in that area with our kids and have drinks for us as well as them along with small plates. Hours were cut for other places as well. Cibolo Moon and High Velocity staff were all friendly. We wish that Cibolo Moon would have had a 2nd option for eating New Year's Eve. The only option was the high priced buffet. We would have really enjoyed eating there but being able to choose from the regular menu. It would have been about $200 for my family to eat there and we would have only been allowed to be in there 1 hour for that cost. We recognize that a resort is costly but it would be nice to have at least one place that's more affordable. My only other suggestion would be for staff to occasionally walk around the resort in the main area. A couple of middle school or high school kids were using the pool tables on a regular basis and wouldn't leave as other people walked up and waited--this was for several days. We used it a couple of times and through common courtesy if we saw another family or couple sit and wait then we would leave after our game. These same kids kept dropping their pool sticks and banging them on the floor as well as one hitting the table incorrectly with it on top to where it will wear out the material. These kind of things should be handled by the parents but when it's not then resort staff should monitor and step in. Another day my daughter and I wanted to go in the small library lounge room. A loud family were in there playing games and eating for several hours. We kept stopping by hoping to go in to read and relax. It's not worth "tattling" about something like this, but again if staff would roam occasionally this could be avoided. They should have gone downstairs to a table and opened this space up for it's intended purpose or at least limit their time to an hour. We may return in the future but it may be a few years. It will be nice next time if staff is utilized more efficiently in that way I described. And of course next time hopefully all will be back up and running with regular hours and will have all the activities available again. And of course hopefully housekeeping will be back up to par.…
The perfect place to base yourself for a relaxing weekend away. Ambassador elite recognition with a suite upgrade which was much appreciated. Spa: lovely facility and good range of treatments. I did think it was a little expensive but it was well patronized so if there is such good demand at the current price points there’s no need to adjust. I liked the outdoor area of the spa a lot. Really lovely service at the steakhouse. The sports bar was surprisingly good - I’m not a sports bar kind of a person but I loved it. I ended up going there because the restaurant I intended to have dinner at was closed which was a surprise and disappointing as the update was not in the hotel information. It was open the night I went to the steakhouse and information at the QR code indicated it was open but it was not. I’d already picked out my food and was all set to order. The sports bar had a giant nachos dish that I thoroughly enjoyed but would ask the hotel to consider keeping restaurant info up to date. The moon restaurant did not provide good evening service so I was not happy to go back there. Breakfast service was mixed - great one morning, not great the next. The resort was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Recommended! …
My wife and I checked in for a business trip, Staff from the door man to the front desk could not have been more helpful. We arrived by car and due to world events, I wanted to self park, the doorman followed me to a not so remote lot and provided golf cart service back to the main building. Johnathan at the front desk was helpful in finding us a room with walk-in shower, so far so good. Rooms are nicely appointed, clean, and what you would expect for a family resort. The property is picturesque. There always a but.... Due to the pandemic one of of the 3 restaurants were closed, the remaining locations were a high in steak house (really great food, we ate there on night two), or the sports bar. The sports bar was not enforcing mask wearing, crowds of customers were roaming the area and gathering in large numbers, we did not feel safe and also reported this to the manager of the restaurant. We decided on room service, with an extremely limited menu. After we made our selection we found out the in-room phones were dead. I had tried calling in on the main number listed for their property, and was greeted by a extremely long message of how Marriott is making the hotel safe for your visit....thank goodness I didn't have an emergency, I may have had to go into the hallway and shout fire. Again Johnathan at the front desk was the answer, I went down and explained the issued we had experienced, he personally arrange for our room service order (really bland, cold, rubbery entries), chef must have gone home early. One last item, we requested only the LIGHT housekeeping service, fresh towels and trash pickup. My wife saw a housekeeper when she went to lunch, and requested they get to our room as soon as possible, never happened all day. My wife stayed at the hotel while I went to meetings off property the next day, and had no issues (third restaurant was open). All that said, the hotel was in great shape and i would stay there again...maybe I'd eat before checking in.…
