My wife and I stayed here while attending an event at the Alamodome. The location is great right next to Hemisfair park, the convention center, the Riverwalk and downtown San Antonio. The valet parking is very convenient and free to non-guests. The hotel is historic and the rooms are each unique with lots of original architectural detail and period furniture. It is true that in some places in our room the wallpaper was peeling a bit and the wood floors creaked, but my opinion is this it is a very special place and quite charming. Not a bordello (as one reviewer phrased it) by any means. Our room was a suite with a full sitting room and a bedroom and bathroom. The shower had two heads which was quite indulgent. Our room also had a private door to the balcony. I liked that it had a lobby bar and courtyard café area, a ground-floor restaurant, and a rooftop bar and restaurant. We did not eat there though as we went to the Riverwalk for dinner. Had excellent breakfast tacos at la Villata Cafe just a half block away. We will definitely come again!…
Oh my, where to begin? Please note that the the FairmoUnt is not a FairmOnt! We arrived snd were rudely created by someone who wanted to valet my car but otherwise not smile or be courteous! He was greatly irritated when I asked for a luggage cart. When I go to my room, the AC was out. I had to be relocated. My friends room had dirty sheets…The decor was early Bordello! Lots of red, gold, tassels… old creaky furniture. Tiles were out or cracked in the bathroom and carpet was frayed and old! Outside doors were locked,,, because patios had rotted and needed repair! On checkout… there was NO one to be found… no o e any where… but the valet finally appeared and said my battery was dead and he very nicely charged it for me. Apparently, some one sat in my car all night listening to Hispanic music( that was where the radio was set). And had run the battery totally down! This was the worst place I have stayed in years!!!…
LOUSY EXPERIENCE at the rooftop bar. Made reservations for a birthday celebration. So disappointed.... Arrogant and rather unfriendly waiter, overpriced, drab environment. Heaters poorly spaced. We left after one round to go someplace else.
I recently traveled to San Antonio to celebrate my birthday, visit Riverwalk and the Alamo. In my search for a restaurant I stumbled upon The Fairmont Hotel. I ended up sitting at the downstairs bar and meeting a nice bartender (Philip) who graciously waited on me. He was very kind, attentive and I enjoyed my delicious meal along with a few of his delicious cocktails. I actually returned the following evening. And not to mention, I have met a friend for life. Thanks again!! Douglas/from Virginia.
Philip is great! He made me a delicious cocktail using our favorite local distillery’s Rakia (Dorcol). He named it after me... a Mark Sour!!! The rooftop oyster bar is amazing. Alaska king crab legs with oysters from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick & Massachusetts. Excellent craft cocktails, nice cool breeze, and views of downtown.
I got a room for the Valentine's Day and the TMEA convention. The room is quaint. I liked it, but I am a fan of historic hotels and places. I loved the idea of the sitting areas on the floors. There are a few people who made our stay quite special. Jauny was there to ensure we had everything we needed. Maren was at the bar and was very friendly who made excellent drinks. The bar was fast and efficient. I had an issue in the room, and Johnny was in the room in less than 2 minutes to help me. The hotel is beautiful. The location cannot be better. Please note that this hotel is older being built in 1906 with being the heaviest object moved when it was moved from its prior location. I am happy they saved it. It is a jewel.
We loved the feel of the hotel. I always like staying in unique and old places. Everything was clean, fresh, and the view from the roof was amazing. George was sweet and very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back.
Fairmount has a certain charm due to its historical building. But it's not worth the money. My room was split level, which meant I had to be careful not to slip down the stairs and on the hard wooden floors. The wifi signal was weak and kept cutting out. There was no breakfast restaurant, which was a real nuisance for someone with early meetings. There was no room service either, which is weird seeing as there were two restaurants on the ground floor. These appeared unrelated to the hotel. I tried to eat at Silo twice but the first time was told it was closing early. The second time I couldn't get anyone to give me a seat, so I returned and the same thing happened. The bathroom was in need of a remodel as it was tatty. I spent considerable effort itemizing my laundry on the form required and toted up the amountvowing, and placed my laundry in the bag provided, but was then told the laundry service had been discontinued. The housemaids were nice and the concierge had a nice sense of humour. But they couldn't save the Fairmount San Antonio.…
George was fantastic and very helpful with information and accommodations. We had a very lovely spacious room. Didn’t get a chance to eat at the hotel restaurants but Matthew was gracious enough to get us some water one evening when the hotel was out. Would very much recommend this hotel. It was close to everything we wanted to do and walked everywhere. Also, highly recommend George’s suggestion on the Commonwealth Bakery for excellent cappuccino!
My friends and I stayed at the Fairmount to celebrate the new year and had an amazing time. The location was perfect with all the events going on and had such a great view of the firework show. George at the front desk made our stay so pleasant. He made sure we had everything we needed at all times and was so kind to us all. Brandon also did such a great job and was so hospitable upon arrival. Thank you so much for helping us ring in the new decade.
